I want to start this review by thanking the publisher and author for allowing me to read an arc of You're Dead To Me.
This book is perfect if you loved Scooby Doo. The characters were loveable from the beginning, but there was great character growth from the fmc. There was lbgtq+ representation from 2 loveable sidekicks. I enjoyed the writing from the start and was at the edge of my seat for most of the book. Although I had some theories of my own, I was surprised in the end. I also really enjoyed the paranormal elements in the book. I think this book would be perfect for anyone who likes YA thrillers, especially during spooky season. I would recommend this book 100%.
I just finished You're Dead to Me by Amy Christine Parker, and it was such a wild ride! This book is a perfect mix of mystery, suspense, and a bit of supernatural flair that kept me hooked from the start.
The story follows Ruby, a high school senior who runs an anonymous gossip account. Things take a dark turn when she starts seeing her own ghost, dressed in a blood-splattered prom dress, warning her that someone wants her dead. With prom just around the corner, Ruby has to figure out who’s behind the threats before it’s too late.
What I loved most about this book was Ruby’s character. She’s strong, witty, and relatable, dealing with the pressures of high school while trying to uncover the truth. The friendships she has with her best friends add a great dynamic to the story, and their adventures made me laugh and cheer for them.
The pacing is fast, with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing. Parker does an amazing job of building suspense, and I found myself on the edge of my seat, especially as the prom night approached.
If you enjoy a thrilling read with a touch of humor and a strong female lead, You're Dead to Me is definitely worth checking out! Have you read it yet? I’d love to hear what you think!
You're Dead to Me is being compared to Happy Death Day by the publisher and honestly that's what drew me in. I LOVE Happy Death Day. Alas, You're Dead to Me is not like Happy Death Day.
Ruby is a social outcast at her local high school. Little do they know she's the person behind a local reputation killing twitter account. When her identity is released, all hell breaks loose. It doesn't help that there is a masked murderer in her community killing people at random. Oh also, she's seeing a ghost version of her future self dressed in a prom dress who's very much DEAD. How can Ruby stop her own upcoming murder when she doesn't know who's trying to kill her? Is it he masked murderer? It is someone coming for revenge for what Ruby wrote online? She's only got a couple days to solve the mystery before her time is up.
Whereas Happy Death Day is repeating the same day over and over again to solve the murder of the female protagonist, Ruby is tasked with solving her future murder. We don't see any flashforwards to how she died so it's very different in that aspect. There were too many things going on in the novel, but everything didn't necessarily stick. Yes some of it is predictable, I did guess who the killer was, but that didn't completely ruin my reading experience. I wish Parker didn't try to put so much into this novel. I think it could have worked better for me.
Thank you to Delacorte Press and Netgalley for a copy in exchange for review consideration.
I saw "Happy Death Day" and "Gossip Girl" and immediately requested this. I would actually say this more closely resembles the show, School Spirits. I really enjoyed Ruby, she was fun and interesting to follow. I found myself excited to get through this one to find out what really happened on Prom night. Definitely recommend lovers of YA and paranormal check this one out.
totally dramatic. totally thrilling. totally fun. very interesting book with a LOT less supernatural that i'd guess from the description of the ghostly figure. 4 stars. tysm for the arc.
I couldn't wait until Prom Day happened! This book kept me interested in reading quicker than I normally do. I started to wonder why certain scenes weren't more graphically detailed, then I realized I was reading a YA thriller. I enjoyed a couple of the 80s references that some young adult readers may not get. The story was well written and I really enjoyed all the characters. I did figure out one twist, but the rest were just that, "twisty." Kudos on a great read!
ARC Review!!!
Ruby is a high school outcast and anonymous social media gossip, who comes face-to-face with her own ghost dressed in a blood-splattered prom dress. With less than a week until the dance, Ruby must unmask her killer—or die trying.
Ruby is a scholarship senior at elite Oleander High School with a chip on her shoulder and an attitude to match—which she puts to good use as the infamous local anonymous gossip blogger ReputationKiller. When she’s outed as the voice behind the account, the entire town turns against her.
But after she’s scared witless by a vision of her own ghost dressed in a blood-splattered prom dress, she is faced with an awful truth. Someone out there doesn’t just hate her—they want her dead.
With less than a week until the prom, Ruby starts investigating. Turns out Oleander Bay isn’t the picture-perfect resort town it purports to be. With so many secrets, scandals, and people hell-bent on covering them up at all costs, the murderer could be anyone. Can Ruby beat the clock counting down to prom—and her death—and survive the night?
This was such a fun read! A lot of death happening but such a good read! It flowed nicely and didn't feel overly long. I love the layout of it and the build up to prom night. Prom night is thought of such a fun night in high school but this anticipation of whether Ruby will die or not is something else. Didn't see the twist coming, it well really well done. The hint of romance is everything!
3 stars!
This book is for readers who are a fan of the One of Us is Lying series and Good Girl's Guide to Murder series. If you enjoy YA horror, high school drama and the paranormal - this is a novel you will for sure want to pick up. I enjoyed the investigation into the Mannequin Murderer and the reputation killer investigations, but I was not a big fan of the main character. The end was also all over the place as the author tried to close all story lines and tie it all together. There were many characters so I felt like it got a bit convoluted at the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s for this book 🖤
I enjoyed reading about Ruby’s journey and watching her grow throughout the book. Her inner detective made it easy for me not to put my book down, I devoured it in a few days. Anton & Xavier were amazing, supportive friends and I wish I had some like them. I found Ruby’s ghost interesting as well and I really wished we could have had more time with her during visits, each visit felt short and vague, aside from the changing dresses. I feel like she had a chance to give us more but all she did was scream and scare Ruby most of the time.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my e-ARC of You’re Dead to Me!

This definitely sucked me right in. A YA thriller/mystery that will keep you guessing. Secrets upon secrets, hatred and love... our MC keeps seeing her ghost. She can't help but dive into fully investigating by herself (and her friends) to catch the killer... but is it just one person? Or more? Will it stop before prom? You do not want to miss out on this one!
The author definitely did great with keeping me guessing, and kept me feeling the tension and determination.
This was a fun young adult paranormal thriller. Perfect for your teens or young adults in your life that are looking for a little edgier read.
This story follows Ruby as she and her high school friends try to make sense of some premonitions she is having of her own death. In addition to just being exposed as the towns high profile anonymous gossip vlogger… known as the ReputationKiller. Oh and there’s a serial killer running around town.
So many different plot points going on but it was done very well and all came together in the end. A good suspense and beginner thriller book.
Thank you for letting me read!
A great mystery for my students who are looking for something immediately gripping and entertaining.
*Thank you to Delacorte Press and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review*
This was a weird one, honestly. A girl seeing her own ghost, a serial killer on the loose, and so many rich person secrets revealed. I felt like there were too many things going on and the story would've improved from cutting at least one. Then we could've spent more time with Ruby and maybe I would've cared more about what happened to her. I also felt like a lot of twists were attempted to be foreshadowed but it just didn't work. So really it felt like a "WHAAA" moment, but not in a good way. I honestly rage-read the last 50% because I just wanted to know how it ended.
I was so excited to have received this. The cover pulled me in and then I read the description and saw it compared to gossip girl and was sold!
It really is reminiscent of GG but in a different way plus it’s a mystery thriller with a little horror thrown in. I did waver a bit at times with my rating as much of it I was so engaged but corner times fell off for a short time. But overall it was a solid and enjoyable read with one subplot that seemed like it was added in to give a horror feel to it.
This is a YA book involving high schoolers who are elite or from the wrong side of the tracks. Because it’s YA I give a little more grace!
But overall it’s well written, engaging and entertaining. I loved the romance remember as well! It comes out December 10th 2024 so it could make the perfect holiday gift for your YA lover!
I am thankful to have gotten an eARC for free from Netgalley and Delacorte Press to enjoy which gave me the opportunity to voluntarily leave a review.
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again
For readers looking for a thriller with a strong mystery, a sympathetic protagonist, and an exploration of family secrets, "You're Dead to Me" is an excellent choice. Parker’s blend of suspense and emotional depth makes this novel a standout in the genre, offering a story that’s as thought-provoking as it is thrilling. I really enjoyed reading this book, you just can't help but to root for Ruby. I will be looking into other books by this author!
Such a fun, easy read! I really enjoyed the look into the issues social media can create when used against each other. As unfortunate as it is that our world has become this way, the author did a good job of depicting it. I'm not only a fan of YA, but also of horror so I liked the supernatural aspects that were brought in. I also loved everything about the kids tight knit friendship that endured through even the most dangerous situations. And the promposal made me smile! So cute! I was heartbroken over the killing of the bear but understood why it made sense in the story. I found that even though I predicted some of the things that were happening/going to happen I wanted to keep reading and didn't want to put the book down. I genuinely enjoyed this book! Well done!
I love when a book sucks me in from the beginning and keeps me engaged the entire time.
It's incredibly niche to say, but I love rich kid school thrillers. I love how the privilege of wealth doesn't always indicate who's going to come out on top, and the dynamics in here are superb.
This is a captivating YA thriller. I love how it started and was captivated right from the start. I just got sucked in and couldn’t take a break. The writing was just so good. I loved the characters; they were great kids without being too ridiculous. I feel that sometimes writers make teenagers seem wild or unruly, but in this case, the author did a great job of making them just feel like kids, nothing too extra. That’s not to say the book wasn’t farfetched, but it was fun. I feel that with most books I read you have to suspense belief a little, and that was true here. It wasn’t too out there, but enough that I just went “hmm”. This one kept me guessing until the end as well, and it was a wild ride that I really enjoyed. The pacing is quick, and it’s a very bingeable book. I finished over the course of a few hours in one sitting.
I would recommend this one to a little older end of the YA spectrum as it does deal with some heavy topics and may not be suitable for younger audiences.
Thank you NetGalley and The Publishers for the eARC!
'Gossip Girl meets Happy Death Day in this YA horror novel following high school outcast and anonymous social media gossip Ruby, who comes face-to-face with her own ghost dressed in a blood-splattered prom dress. With less than a week until the dance, Ruby must unmask her killer—or die trying.'
My guilty pleasure is YA books, so I was thrilled to get this one! I love thrillers, and mysteries, so all of my loves wrapped into one. This book was wonderfully written and kept me hooked all the way thru!
