I enjoyed this story very much. It was a cute read. It was set in another book series, that was a nice nod.
Preteen Adèle wants to spend her winter break cozy at home with her books, but she gets her first period and discovers that she has inherited her grandmother’s talent of seeing ghosts. Her grandmother hates ghosts and does everything she can to stay away from them, but Adèle embraces her new skill and wants to help the ghosts move on to what’s next.
I love stories with ghosts. This was a great coming of age story. I liked that it started with Adèle getting her first period. Her family treated it as a celebration. There aren’t many middle grade books that talk about that, even though almost all preteen girls experience it. This was a fun read!
Taxi Ghost is a great middle grade graphic novel!
Thank you Penguin Teen Canada for providing a copy of this book.
In this beautiful and humorous graphic novel, Adèle, who lives with her grandmother and older sister in Montreal, gets her first period and discovers that some women in her family possess a special gift. They are mediums who can see, communicate with, and help ghosts. Adèle has to decide whether she wants to use her new gift and help the ghosts who come to her for help, or ignore her gift and the ghosts that she now sees everywhere. The characters are interesting, the story is easy to follow, and I loved the family relationships and interactions. The book also presents great period positivity and normalization of menstruation! I truly hope to see a sequel to this.
Tween/teen graphic novel about a girl who gets the family gift of seeing/talking to ghosts. Her grandmother also has the gift but wanted nothing to do with it so has all sorts of ways to block the ghosts. Ad`ele decides she wants to help the ghosts. It turns out the ghosts and her grandmother all want to stop a greedy developer from buying up their neighborhood.
Adele has only recently discovered that she can see and talk to ghosts, but before long she's plunged into a plot to save her neighborhood from gentrification . . . all while keeping another group of ghosts from destroying it.
This was a fun and involving graphic novel. I love that Escabasse includes characters from many generations in her books, and her artwork is always a delight.
My students love The Witches of Brooklyn, so when I saw a new book by Sophie Escabasse in the same universe, I knew I had to check it out!
In Taxi Ghost, our main character **Adèle is on her school’s winter break when she realizes she can see ghosts! Unknown to Adèle, many women in her family are mediums, and begin seeing ghosts when they get their first period. When one of the ghosts Adèle meets asks for her help, she needs to decide whether or not to follow in her grandmother’s footsteps and block ghosts out of her life, or embrace her family tradition and use her powers as a medium to help her community.
❤️ What I loved: This book is full of wonderful storytelling—Escabasse does a great job of really bringing the place and characters to life. I love the way that changes in Adèle’s life were layered with the changes in her neighborhood. The story also contains wonderful lessons about growing up, helping others, and the importance of standing up for what you think is right.
I’ve already purchased the book for our school library, and I look forward to recommending it to our Middle Grade readers!
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 (4.5-5)

This comic is such an adorable little ride. It’s filled with sweetness and good intentions and I loved every moment of it. It felt nice to think that our loved ones would still be fighting for us even after they pass on.
Seeing a young girl deal with getting her period and seeing ghosts and trying to figure out how to work with everyone to save her city was so heartwarming. We all have that awkward time in our lives and all of a sudden so much is on your shoulders and it’s difficult to navigate at first.
This comic has such a beautiful sense of family and community. I love how everyone comes together for a greater cause even against what feels like something so much bigger than them. However the more people band around you and lift you up the more likely you are to succeed.
Taxi Ghost is a lovely read that will make you smile. It’s one of those stories that make you believe in the power of community and inspires hope. I absolutely loved it.
Interesting premise and characters. the author handled the storyline well and the plot was engaging. enjoyed the different setting.
Adele just wants to enjoy her winter break, hanging out at the library, but life has other plans. After getting her first period, she realizes this rite of passage has brought something else to Adele - the ability to see ghosts. Unbeknownst to her, this is a family gift/curse (depends who you ask!) Adele has to decide - does she want to enbrace her new ability and maybe use it to help, or ignore it like her grandmother warns her.

"Taxi Ghost" is a MG graphic novel with supernatural elements.
The artwork is colorful and engaging, making it visually appealing for young readers. While the main story might not be particularly groundbreaking, the supporting characters shine, especially one who adds a lot of humor and charm to the narrative.
Overall, it's an enjoyable read that delivers a lighthearted experience.
I loved the concept of this graphic novel of a girl who comes into her power of being able to see ghosts. Even though I hated getting my period, I do enjoy seeing periods mentioned in books so that students know it's a normal biological process. The period party for Adele was cute because she was surrounded by her female loved ones in her life. The intergenerational relationship between Adele, her sister Helen, and their gran was really endearing. The plot was well developed of the tenants in Adele's apartment building rallying against a building company to defend their community for being taken over, and even the ghosts get involved!
I loved this! What a beautiful complex story with period talk, age appropriate death discussions, and an interesting story. Highly recommend to any reader but I do think the intended audience will love this! Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC it’s always appreciated!
I really enjoyed this cute and quirky story. Not only was it about a girl finding out she’s a medium, but solving world problems?!? Count me in. I somehow want more of Adele’s journey in life, I loved how the grandma sorta came around at the end, worth the read.
There are not enough words out there to describe my love for Sophie Escabasse and her talent. All her books so far have been excellent and outstanding, and an instant add to both home library and school library. This one has made it to another list of ours – it goes onto the list of books to get for gifts for middle-grade-aged kids.
This book is beautiful, beautifully told and filled with beautiful art. The story is awesome and heartwarming. I believe Sophie Escabasse’s books are ones that can turn a reluctant reader into an avid reader – and this book passes the vibe also.
I knew this was going to be amazing because The Witches of Brooklyn is such a delightfully charming series— and I hope this becomes a series too. All the charm and love for sassy grandma’s is still there, but now we have ghosts!!! Adèle just got her first period, and now she can see ghosts! First of all, I love that they threw her a period party and gave her period panties (best invention ever)! And I love that she wants to befriend and help the ghosts. The main theme of this one was gentrification of a small neighborhood in Montreal. Sophie did a wonderful job incorporating these topics in a fun story.
This was a sweet book with great art, and the ghost characters were a lot of fun. I felt a little bit like I was missing the "what-happens-next?!" drive in this one, though. Still, worth recommending to fans of Escabasse's other work.
I really enjoyed the art style and the story was interesting. I liked the ghost aspects of the story, but felt like the author was trying to address too many topics in the book and that scattered the focus a bit.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an eARC for me to review!
This book was sO cute, love all the ghosts and the thoughtfulness that went in to bringing them to life (hehe). The period party was cool as heck -- can we make that a thing???? Lovely art and wonderful multigenerational family moments, and big fan of the library love!!
Taxi ghost was an amazing graphic novel. I loved the character study and the illustrations were well done.
This is such a perfect story for teenagers and especially females going through "the change" of becoming a woman.
I'm new to graphic novels, but Definitely am enjoying the quick serotonin boost they give you. This was such a fun and heartwarming story of people helping others. Alive or dead.
