I've read book one so I was able to jump right in but once finishing I feel like you could read this as a stand alone and be just fine. I had to look back at The Final Hunt to remember the details of the story, so I wish Cole had given us reminders earlier instead of sprinkling them throughout the book. In The Final Hunt, Cameron Prescott learned that her "dead" husband John was a serial killer. Convinced that John had not really died, Cameron set off for Alaska to find him. At the end of the book, Cole leads us to believe that she left him for dead to be attacked by wolves near a remote cabin in the woods. But is John really dead? When two women are killed and it seems that there's a new serial killer on the loose, Cameron questions whether John could still be alive. Her new state trooper boyfriend Dane has been very secretive about his whereabouts and Cameron starts to worry that maybe she's gotten herself into a relationship with a serial killer once again. Cameron goes on an interesting and dangerous journey to get to the bottom of all of this. I would have enjoyed a bit more surprise and twists but that's okay I still enjoyed it!

Cameron Prescott believes her murderous husband, John, is finally dead. She starts a new life for herself in Tok, Alaska as the local dentist. She even starts dating a state trooper. However, the peaceful life she has built for herself is quickly shattered when a murder occurs matching her late husband’s signature. Is her husband still alive and out for revenge or did a member of the Tok law enforcement commit this murder? Cameron is determined to find out.

This is the second book in The Final Hunt series. The first book is a must-read as this second installment builds on the first. I’ve come to really enjoy Audrey J. Cole’s writing. She does not disappoint with this second installment. I found myself on the edge of my seat with every jaw-dropping twist. I continued to enjoy Cameron as a character and the setting of the small town of Tok, Alaska was perfect. I highly recommend this series to anyone that enjoys thrillers! I give it 4/5 stars.

There is a serial killer in Tok, Alaska. His victims are similar to those of murderer John Prescott. But Prescott’s wife Cameron killed him. He’s dead. Isn’t he?

Cameron doesn’t think so. Now that the “Teacher Killer” is back, she urges both her new partner, State Policeman Dane and Tanner, the officer who solved the earlier crimes, to look for John. He must be responsible and Cameron fears that she will be his next victim. More deaths have the police convinced that there is a new killer, possibly a police officer, in the area, stalking women. Cameron’s beliefs will put others in danger and endanger her.

Although The Last Hunt can be read as a standalone thriller, it is a sequel to The Final Hunt. Cameron is a strong character and a fighter. She dealt with John before and she will again. Risking her own life, she helps both Tanner and Dane solve the teacher murders. Alaska is a character itself, with its cold summer nights and wild storms. Audrey J. Cole is talented writer and I look forward to what she writes next. 5 stars.

The Last Hunt is the follow up to the excellent The Final Hunt. (Definitely check that one out, and though The Last Hunt picks up not long after the events of the last book it can also work as a standalone.) Yes, I agree it’s kind of funny that there is a follow up to a book call the Final Hunt, lol. But let me tell you I’m so glad Audrey Cole has continued this series.

Cameron Prescott thought the nightmare was over. Thought her murdering psycho of a husband was dead. But when a new killing occurs, she begins to question everything and everyone she thought she knew. This is an intense, fast paced thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I’d like to thank BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an eARC of Audrey Cole’s The Last Hunt.

Fantastic thriller! I love a remote location and a murder mystery! Could not put it down. Very suspenseful read.

An exciting murder mystery. A serial killer. Lots happened prior to the current murders. Most may have been told in The Final Hunt. I didn't read that one, but it seems as if all one needs to know is in this story. Misdirection and clues galore, real or faked. It will keep one guessing. Quite the page turner, especially near the end. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

I wanted to read this one so bad because I loved the final hunt. But unfortunately I couldn’t really read it. There was so many grammar errors in this arc my brain couldn’t compute what the words should have said so I’ll be reading it once it releases for a final copy.

Cameron Prescott is still living in small town Alaska and running her dental practice there. She is dating one of the officers she met when she turned up in Alaska to hunt down her serial killer husband. When a new round of murders begins, Cameron starts to question whether or not her former spouse really died in the wilderness, or if he escaped death yet again and is back to killing young women working in education.

I enjoyed the story this time around, but did like the first installment better. This one feels a little less high-stakes than the original story did, and the twists were slower to come in The Last Hunt. It felt like this addition to the series was trying too hard to mimic what worked in the first book, and it did not have as much character development. I definitely think readers should start with the first book in the series, as there is a lot in this one that would not make much sense without knowing what happened in The Final Hunt.

Thank you to NetGalley, Audrey J. Cole, and BooksGoSocial for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I will never pass up an Audrey J Cole book, so when I saw this arc available on NetGalley I freaked out and then fan girled when I was approved to read and review it!

The Final Hunt was the first book I read by Cole, and it got me back into reading! I fell in love with the tenacity of the female main character, Cameron.

The Last Hunt is a sequel, and we follow Cameron as she has gotten into hot water again and the bodies are dropping around her. She is tested to the core as she tries to decipher who she can trust and who she should be weary of. Even though this book is part of a series, it definitely could be read as a stand alone if you picked it up without knowing.

The twists in the Last Hunt kept me on my toes and I was soooo sure of where it was headed, just for it to go far left at the end! I highly recommend Cole for mild thrillers!

I love remote/ isolated location storyline. And although books that take place in Hawaii are my favorite, books that take place in Alaska are right behind that. Our family has spent a lot of time in Alaska, so I can picture the beauty and remoteness in my mind.

John is presumed dead. John is a serial killer. Cameron hopes her husband is dead. But when a body shows up with the same MO as John’s, Cameron starts thinking there may be a copy cat killer. And on top of all that Cameron starts thinking her new State Trooper BF may be guilty.

Aack. So good. An easy read. RECOMMEND

After reading The Final Hunt, I was interested to see where this story could go next. While I did enjoy the premise of the first book and parts of the storyline, the amount of belief suspension required ultimately took away from my enjoyment. The FMC, Cam, made terrible decisions at every point. I just wanted to scream at her… “No! Don’t do that! What are you thinking?!” 🤦‍♀️

However, much to my surprise I enjoyed the second book much more than the first. While some have said it can be read as a standalone, I really wouldn’t recommend that as having the full backstory really heightens the reader experience for this book. Also, a true standalone can be read in any order without ruining too much of the plot, and that’s not the case here. If you were to read this book first, it ruins the twists of The Final Hunt entirely.

If you like police procedurals, crime thrillers, and books that take place more off the grid (the Alaskan tundra), this is the perfect series for you! Just trust me and start with The Final Hunt first. 😉

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up

“There are some things in life you will never know you’re capable of until you’re faced with it. Killing is one of them.”

Cameron Prescott seems to be on a roll making poor relationship choices. When her most recent and now former husband, John Prescott, is dubbed Seattle’s infamous ‘Teacher Killer’, Cameron changes her identity and location in an attempt to distance herself from John, Seattle’s most prominent criminal defense attorney. In the previous book, ‘The Final Hunt’, Cameron is certain that she’s rid herself of him…forever. Now, she’s not so sure.

A dentist and widow, Cameron has moved to Tok, Alaska, a town of 1200, and tried to move forward with her life. She takes comfort in knowing that the isolated town surrounded by forest land for hundreds of miles allows her anonymity. Adding to her comfort is the fact that her latest boyfriend, Dane, is an Alaskan State Trooper.

Her world is shattered by a fresh killing that is eerily similar to her late husband’s grisly signature. Cameron, confronted by evidence, is now forced to consider that (1) John may still be alive and that (2) she’s in his crosshairs. Can a serial killer come back from the grave? Is there a copycat in this isolated small town?

Audrey J. Cole writes spectacular thrillers. I read this book in isolated Smuggler’s Cove in Skagway, Alaska. My views of a breathtaking fjord and the much-needed solitude did not alleviate my reactions to the heart-pounding thriller Cole masterfully crafted. I heard every twig snap and every stone move as the water lapped the shore. My imagination kicked into high gear and I was convinced someone was watching me and my husband. Cole’s intimate knowledge of her setting and her ability to evoke a strong emotional response is why I keep coming back to her books and eagerly anticipate her next thriller.

This spectacular book will have you re-evaluating who you trust and taking inventory of who you’ve let get close. You’ll definitely reframe ‘final’, have a heightened sense of security, and become very aware of your surroundings.

I was gifted this copy by Audrey J. Cole, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

This one absolutely topped the first one! The characters have more depth. The mystery is more intense. There is action, suspense, and twists. I really enjoyed Tanner. The ending was satisfying yet left it open enough for another story.

Tok, a small town in Alaska, is the last place you expect a violent crime to occur, let alone a serial killer… yet this isn’t the first time a serial killer has murdered in Tok and when another young teacher is murdered, the small town is questioning whether bad things come in threes?

The last hunt is a fantastic book that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time questioning everyone’s motives.

The female protagonist Cameron is trying to rebuild her life after discovering her ex-husband was a serial killer targeting and assaulting young, female teachers. When another teacher winds up dead she is convinced her ex-husband is still alive and coming to get his revenge against her.

Cameron’s new partner is a Sargent in the local police force who isn’t convinced the her ex-husband is alive but what he does know is the new victim fits the MO of a serial killer from Tok several decades prior. And the suspected killer was a police officer…

The chapters written from the point of view of the victims are tense and terror-stricken. The emotional response and thought patterns feel very real and human. You can’t help but fall in love with them and grieve their loss and pain.

As Cameron deals with complex emotional trauma, uncovering layers of secrets and things better left alone, you will fall in love with the characters and vow vengeance on their behalf.

The last hunt is a sequel but can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend picking it up.

Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the copy of The Last Hunt by Audrey J. Cole. What a great sequel to The Final Hunt! Imagine thinking your serial killer husband is finally dead, then the killing starts again. Did Cameron’s husband do it or was it her new boyfriend? If you’re looking for a fast-paced book, this one is well-written and will keep you guessing. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Such a fast-paced, riveting thriller: I could not put it down! As good if not better than the amazing first book in the series. For some thrillers, I find myself waiting to get to the end to figure out the “big twist,” but with this one, I was captivated throughout the entire thing.

This is book 2 of a series but I feel like it could be read as a stand-alone. It’s a fast paced and well written murder mystery. A serial killer is on the loose again and they have to be stopped. I fell right into rhythm with the story. Would I be like Cameron after her two failed marriages. Probably and everyone looked guilty to me. I loved the twists and turns and definitely recommend this.

This book is well written and Audrey Cole is just like HOLY CRAP ... the writing is fantastic.

The book picks up where the first one left off and set in Alaska :) Once she moves there its like Groundhog day all over again.

The book had me at page one and easy to read and follow. Hope the series continues.

Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.
