Written in the noir style, The Seduction of Sunni Sinclair has everything from mob bosses and hitmen to undercover exposés aimed at bringing down nefarious crime lords.
If you love film noir, you will absolutely enjoy the audiobook version of The Seduction of Sunni Sinclair. Fiona Press does an incredible job with her brilliant voice acting. Her performance is so captivating that it pulls you in to the point of picturing this audiobook as if you were watching it instead of just listening. Unfortunately, the biggest downfall to the audiobook version is that the story can sometimes be difficult to follow. This is mainly due to the various characters not having unmistakable audible differences. Sometimes the voices run together, and so if you're not paying close enough attention, you can lose track of who is speaking in the conversation. However, I don't think it hinders the story telling if you can keep up with fast-pace narrative. For me, being able to picture the story as it was happening in a film noir style helped tremendously as it kept me oriented to the scenes.

The heist promise in the abstract interested me but the book did not deliver.
It's a book set in the 50's in Australia but really it could be in any time and place as it didn't had enought references to that era.
The characters were definitely written by a man.
The writing is good, but often I feel lost in the story.
I loved The Seduction of Sunni Sinclair. She was a funny character and I loved listening to her putting the pieces together. I do wish we could have seen the maid being told what happened with her son.
The narrator did a really good job with the narration.
Hi. Good book, I enoyed the writing and the narrator for sure! The characters are so real and relatable in their absurdity at times.
At the time of this I did not know how to download so I was not able to leave a review. I wish I could have listened. I now know how to download audio books and have listened to so many amazing ones.
It is a different book than the ones I usually read, it caught my attention because it is set in the 50s and takes place in Australia. There were some points that I couldn't fully understand, but if you like crime stories with a touch of romance, this is the ideal story for you. Regarding the narration, I feel that it has been very flat and although the narrator has an incredible voice to give life to Sunni Sinclair, she would have preferred that she make the respective voice changes to live the story better and not feel monotonous.
I read this book, but really enjoyed the chance to listen to it as well. Loved the easy, one day read that kept me engaged all the way.
An intriguing story about the 1950's and one woman and her rise from an escort to a true crime genius. One can only ask what would I do in her situation. This story is set in Australia with rich characters that come to life and make you want to rush to the end. With humor and drama in the right places, this was a great book that I enjoyed. I will be looking for more by Noel Mealey!
**please note due to low rating I will not be leaving a public review for this book as I have not paid for it.**
Narrated by Fiona Press ⭐⭐
This narrator has an absolutely stunning voice but my God did she do the most terrible job with this book. It was impossible to keep track of the story line and characters due to the narrators inability to change her voice for the characters. I don't feel that I can rate this book appropriately. It definitely would have been better in book form.
Story by Noel Mealey star rating NA
Sunny Sinclair is the kind of main character you can’t stop reading about, she’s funny, witty and extremely intelligent. The plot and the characters were all great I loved the story. I didn’t necessarily love the writing style or the narrator, maybe it was just one or both or something I don’t know but it was a little difficult to follow, could just be me. But I think I would try readying a physical book from this author as I loved everything else
A little bit hard to follow. I listened to the audio version and the production did a great job. However I struggled to get engaged with the storyline and characters
I just couldn't not get into this, no matter how many time I tried. I was not sure what it was but I just couldn't enjoy it
The Seduction of Sunni Sinclair is an audiobook I will be recommending to my friends. This work of Historical Fiction has an interesting story with fantastically written characters. Different from the rest of the books on my shelf, I'm glad I chose to give this work by Noel Mealey a listen.
"The Seduction of Sunni Sinclair" by Noel Mealey, narrated by Fiona Press, is a captivating tale set in 1954 that follows the audacious Sunni Sinclair as she breaks free from the criminal underworld of Sydney to start a new life in a lawless mining town near Newcastle. As Sunni ventures into a world of danger and deception, she becomes a champion of justice, challenging societal norms and advocating for women's rights while navigating the complexities of her tumultuous past.
Narrated by Fiona Press, the audiobook brings Sunni's story to life with rich detail and atmospheric narration. The vivid portrayal of Sunni's journey, from seeking vengeance against her former lover to orchestrating daring heists, is enhanced by Press's nuanced performance, drawing listeners into the thrilling narrative filled with action, intrigue, and betrayal.
Mealey's expert storytelling weaves together a tale of empowerment, ambition, and self-discovery, exploring themes of female resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Sunni Sinclair emerges as a compelling protagonist, driven by wit, intelligence, and fierce independence that sets her apart in a male-dominated world. Through Sunni's experiences, the novel delves into the complexities of societal expectations and the challenges women face in pursuing their dreams, offering a thought-provoking and empowering narrative.
Despite the novel's merits, including its thrilling plot and compelling characters, I found that ebook preferred listening to this particular audiobook. While Fiona Press's narration is skilful and engaging, it didn't resonate with me as strongly as I had hoped. I believe that reading the book in print format has allowed me to connect more deeply with Sunni's story and appreciate the nuances of Mealey's prose.
Overall, "The Seduction of Sunni Sinclair" is a captivating and thought-provoking novel that blends romance, intrigue, and empowerment in a richly detailed historical setting. Whether enjoyed through the audiobook format or in print, this tale of desire, ambition, and self-discovery is sure to charm and captivate readers seeking a blend of excitement, passion, and fierce independence. Prepare to be transported into Sunni Sinclair's world, where empowerment and seduction reign supreme, and where Fiona Press's narration brings the story to life with vivid authenticity.
I thought that this book was different than many I have heard before, witty and written very well. While I found it entertaining and unique there were moments where I felt a bit bored. It was short though and that combined with the humor of the main character made it very likeable.
Wow! I did not see this book coming at all! This book follows retired escort Sunni Sinclair who left her life involving the crime world in the past ... or so we might think. When someone from her past comes back into her world and turns up dead she finds herself looking into a crime that could set herself and a few people up for life.
The one negative this I would say about this book is that it was a little slow. I found myself not looking forward to picking it up until about half way through. That being said once things picked up I couldn't put it down! Because she is so inexperienced in committing a crime herself but also being the leader in her group I found the story funny as well as intriguing. And that ending ... mind blown! Will there be a sequel? I hope so!
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a female led crime novel! Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this novel!
This is a book about an escort turned into boss for a heist. While this book is a great premise and I loved a woman boss idea, I never felt very connected to the characters and therefore didn’t really care about the outcome. Thank you to NetGalley for an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review.
3 stars.**
I was about 80% through this book when it disappeared from my Netgalley app.
A bummer, because I was just starting to get invested.
This has all of the elements of a book I would like.
A caper. A strong female protagonist. A romantic foreign locale. Historical Fiction.
But. I don't know if my issue was the narrator or the writing. I really struggled to care enough to really pay attention. I was zoning out and back in.
I liked it. Not sure I liked it enough to buy it to get to the end.
*with thanks to NetGalley for the Audio ARC in exchange for this honest review.
** wish that NetGalley app sent a "FINISH NOW" notice so I don't lose a book whilst I'm in the middle of it!
Just wrapped up this audiobook! The book's description piqued my interest. Although I initially found the pacing slow and had difficulty keeping track of all the names, the plot hooked me, particularly Sunni's unwavering pursuit of her goals. Delving into the criminal underworld was absorbing, and the characters' intricate flaws made their personal journeys captivating. Despite its merits, it took me some time for me to finish, and the narration didn't rank as my favorite among all the audiobooks I've listened to. I believe I would have connected more if I had read the book rather than listened to the audiobook.
"A notorious escort, a daring heist... the rest is history."
The words that grabbed me and made me excited for this story... but I really wished I enjoyed this story more than I did. The writing style is easy and comfortable but the actual story left me more confused than interested. It felt a little all over the place, I just-just start to think I am going to enjoy this and then I'm confused again and not in a good way....
The narrator was good and stopped me from DNFing this book. I will like to try another book of the author ,Noel Mealey, as I like the way she writes.
I do not know if I will categorize this as a mystery and the romance? Romance was little and more confusing don't know if it really added to the story maybe if there was a little more... maybe it can be added to the 'closed door romance'.
I will categorize this book as action/historic fiction.
Thank you to NetGalley for supplying the ARC of this book!
