What happens when 2 people who were betrothed in marriage by their parents do when they meet each other incidentally without benefit of introduction? Shane McPherson, new Laird to the McPherson clan pretends to be merely a soldier returning to his clan and she Lindsay Wallace, pretends to be a member of an opposite, enemy clan just visiting to care for an ailing aunt. When Shane marries Lindsay to protect her from her relative's abuse, they have no knowledge that they are the person the other has been avoiding meeting. At first I didn't think I would like the premise of this storyline but as I kept reading I was able to appreciate the notion of two strangers who were determined to avoid marrying the person they were contractually bound to. Shane needed Lindsay to show him that he could find and love someone else despite his wanting to punish himself for the death of his first beloved wife. Lindsay needed Shane to be the love she was searching for so she no longer had to be a pawn used by her father to make an alliance with another clan. I think the ruse went on too long but it was a satisfying read
I received an ARC from NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving a review
I received this book as an eARC and would like to thank Entangled Publishing and Net Galley for the opportunity. I really enjoyed this book. It was slower than my typical read but really well paced. This is a book for you if you love historical romances, second chance love, learning how to trust yourself, slow burns with a touch of heartbreak, healing, and secrets.
Shane and Lindsey are supposed to be married, they just don’t know it’s to each other yet. They build a great friendship and keep lots of secrets especially about their true identities from each other even after they sneak away to get married.
Make sure you read this book to find out the answers to the secrets and what all happens.
First, I had a bit of trouble with the book, but nothing I can pinpoint.
Overall I enjoyed this book, I liked Lindsay and Shane. The villains were villaining, And there was plenty of action happening to move the story forward.
Shane MacPherson has been away from his home and clan for about five years. Still haunted by years of war and the loss of wife, he must step into his place as the new laird of Clan MacPherson,
Before he can make his way to the castle, he encounters a woman in the forest in need of a little help.
Lindsay Wallace does not want to call MacPherson's land home. She first needs to survive the month with her horrible uncle before she is to wed the newest laird of Clan MacPherson. It's a peace offering between clans Wallace and MacPherson.
She has no interest in marrying her betrothed. And when the soldier who came to her rescue offers marriage to protect her, she chooses to say yes.
Will they be able to survive when their secrets are revealed?
Thanks so much to the author, Entangled and NetGalley for this ARC to review.
Ugh historical romances are so hit or miss bjt HIGHLAND romances are never miss, no matter the author.

I loved the way these two loved each other and the highs and lows that they had to go through!
This is a great romance story!! Loved it!! 😍
Enjoyed everything about this one! They both had secrets and didn’t want the marriage forced on them. There were lots of barriers in their way and a lot of villains trying to disrupt their future. Like the stepmom who was basically a scam artist she was a fun one. Loved their secret little romance before they realized who they were to each other. I love this time era too in the scottish highlands and the weeks away just to send a message to the neighboring clans. It seems so simple and rugged.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this arc. I didn't really like this book as much as I hoped I would.
Pros: likeable characters, good setting, easy to read, HEA
Cons: entire book is miscommunication trope, which is so frustrating to me (I understand this is a personal preference, but I do not enjoy it), somewhat predictable
Overall, I did like Lindsay and Shane's story, but I felt the book could have been much shorter. It seemed much of the story was added just to have more conflict to lengthen the book. The writing itself was well done and it was a good palette cleanser for books with darker themes.
This was a very cute story with a pretty predictable outcome. I liked the characters and I loved how strong willed the main woman was. She didn't back down and was willing to do things to make changes in her life.
Scottish historical romances are some of my favorite and this one was right up there. Shane and Lindsey make a lovely couple, they are both running from planned marriages that happen to be with each other without them being aware they are supposed to marry each other. Of course, the truth comes out after they've already fallen and married each other leading to a whole different set of issues.
I really enjoyed their romance and how they interact with each other. Shane is a great guy who goes out of his way to help Lindsey and her cousins. The setting was beautiful, the pacing was great, and the characters made the perfect couple. I can't wait to see where the series is going to go next.
What a fun read! I thought the characters were relatable and written well. They both had problems that they had to work through on their own, but complimented each other well. I probably will reread this over and over again.
This is the first time I have read anything by this author or historical romance that isn't an regency. It was a solid first read. I will say that it was a bit of a slow start/burn but once the storyline gets going, it's a quick read.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this eARC
3.5 stars. This was a pretty good book. His Secret Highland Bride is a standalone historical romance set in Scotland. Shane McPherson is back from war, a widower who must step into his new role as laird of his clan. He has some demons and puts off stepping into his new life by staying at a cabin in the forest until he is ready. He is betrothed to a woman he's never met from the Wallace clan to broker peace between the two families. While in the cabin, he meets Lindsay who is living with her mean uncle's family and being mistreated, before she too is to be married off. The two fall in love, only to find that they are betrothed to each other without knowing it. Can they trust their feelings and learn to trust each other so that they can go on to live a happy life?
The story was interesting and well written. The first half was my favorite. I found the second half to have a little too much separation and miscommunication. The "making up" came a bit too late in the story for me. Still, this was not a bad book. The story was good and kept my attention, despite it's low heat level. I enjoyed this book in general and will continue this series.
This was an absolutely fantastic book; I can't wait for a continuation of this series! If you like Highland romance similiar to Heather McCollum this book is for you!
Shane MacPherson, a warrior and hesitant lard, returns home with a grieving heart and sense of duty. Upon arriving he meets a new arrival, Lindsay, that has secrets of their own. Can they trust each other with their secrets and find a way to love each other for who they truly are?
Both Shane and Lindsay are well rounded main characters with a storyline that made me eager to turn each page. The supporting characters were developed perfectly with the obvious intent of creating additional books that could be stand alone or read as part of a series. I will be eagerly looking to return to the MacPherson clan!
Spice-2/5
Shane MacPherson, newly minted Laird of clan MacPherson, is a soldier, widower, and scarred from battles and the death of his wife. He is returning home due to his father's death, however, not yet ready to take on the mantle of Laird. His half brother Ronan, now laird of clan Grant, has went off to visit his grandfather, so Shane has decided to stay in Ronan's cottage until he can be the Laird.
His first day back he meets a lass being bullied by guards. After dispatching them, he lets the lass know she is safe and he will not harm her. Shane just needs time to adjust to having to get married again due to his father's agreement with the Wallace Laird.
Lindsay Wallace, was sent in her mother's stead to help het ill aunt. Upon arrival she finds het aunt had died already but agrees to stay for awhile to help with the children. Her uncle and cousins treat her like a lowly maid, her own maid stole her clothes plus what jewels she brought, plus her father's retainers left without her. She then finds out that her father has agreed to a marriage to the new MacPherson Laird.
The old Laird married Deirdre Grant who is selfish, conniving, devious, and mean. She believes she is owed everything she wants.
What happens next is a comedy of secrets! Can Shane go thru with the marriage? Does Lindsay? What does the MacPherson family do to help? What selfish things does Deirdre do? How does Shane combat the chaos Deirdre causes?
Come join us as we watch the chaos reign, the combatants spare, and secret get revealed. Who ever said Shakespeare had all the good plots has not read much lately and would find this story plot compelling, thrilling, and humorous. I so could not wait to find out who would win.
To say more would give away too much and ruin the this enchanting story.
Shane and Lindsay’s story moved a little slow for me. I looked for the excitement and engagement between the characters and their allies, but the story seems to be timid. The romance between Shane and Lindsay is told and a sweet and genuine way. That has kept me interested. Their dialogue is charming and engaging and entertaining. The heat or spice between the two is very high. I like the story, but I would like to read more intensity and drama between the characters. More nail biting drama and action. Along with surprises and twists that will have you dropping your mouth.
This is a historical romance set in the Scottish Highlands. Neither of our lead characters want the marriage their father's have arranged. Our hero delays returning home from five years at war to avoid it. Our heroine found a different way to avoid her future husband. A devious widow is an added problem. War between Clans can and will happen. Will anyone find the life they want??
A story that shows us the trouble lies and deception can cause. The characters are a lot of fun and I'm hoping we will see more from this Clan.
I loved it.
While reading this story I wanted so badly to slap some sense into these two. Shane MacPherson is a soldier whose suffered great loss. He's strong, loyal and dutiful. He's finally home after 5 years of fighting in a foreign war. Enter Lindsay Wallace, a beautiful young woman in need of saving. She's strong willed, capable, smart, and hard working. They're both trying to hide from their pasts and responsibilities; they have lots of baggage to deal with. We watch as they both try to navigate a relationship with half truths and the consequences that they cause. Mistakes were made and learned from, so there was character growth for both of them.
Shane is on his way home from war when he rescues a young woman being accosted by thugs. To Lindsay, he was a soldier grief-stricken, weary from war, and looking for a little peace and quiet. To Shane, she was a young woman in a disagreeable situation. Both are keeping secrets and hiding who they truly are. Shane is the new laird of the MacPherson clan. Lindsay is the daughter of the Laird of the Wallace clan. Before long, they are quite taken with each other and marry. What they didn’t know at the time was that they were betrothed. Shane is the Laird Lindsay to whom is betrothed. Things are a bit prickly when they discover the truth, but Shane and Lindsay are perfect for each other, if they can get past the secrets, fibs, and misunderstandings. This is a well-done, entertaining story with some interesting characters. I look forward to more stories in the series.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.
I loved this story. It's well written, full of great characters and detail. Shane is the most honorable Laird. He is however an over thinker and a bit more sensitive than I would have expected. He thinks everything he does is wrong and can't seem to see that he does make the right decision. Lindsay is incredible and decisive which is good. Together, they forge the path for the clan and overcome lots of hurdles. This is my first time reading this author and her work is stellar. I can't wait to read more of her stories. I hope Ronan, Alex and Tory each have one.
