Shared Remains is a slow start detective book. I find the writing is very well done and style similar to the classic detective books from the 1900's. The author was able to switch multiple characters and it was smooth. I found this a great read, but it did take me longer to finish it due to the style. The sibling rivalry really felt like an accurate concept and the detective did such a great but realistic job with this case. I know this is a series book, but I felt you could pick it up at this book and read it, though some of the personal details from previous books will be missing. I did not read the other books and I could read this one regardless. I recommend it for those who want a classic detective book.

Could be read as a standalone , but more enjoyable if you have followed the story thus far.

DI Kelly Porter is tasked to investigate and soon digs up a bitter history between the two brothers who own the Cumbrian farmland that the quarry sits on. Arthur and Samuel inherited half each and have been locked in a feud that’s dragged on for decades. Their reluctance to cooperate makes getting answers even harder.

Privately, Kelly has other concerns about the family. Her elderly friend recently moved to a care home on the old farm that is managed by Arthur’s inscrutable wife. Kelly senses there is more than meets the eye with this case, but will searching for the truth put others at risk?
Living in Cumbria , I like to read stories set there as I like to imagine the area the author writes about.
In this offering I felt like our protagonist ( Kelly ) was missing a little something and as a character was a little flat in her personality but hopefully this will be resolved in the next book.

I discovered Rachel Lynch’s Kelly Porter series a few months ago, drawn to them by the fact they were set in my favourite place in the world, the Lake District. The stories are interesting and engaging and Shared Remains is a great addition to the series. The police procedure part of these novels is fascinating and the personal relationships among her team and family only add to the stories.

Shared Remains book 12 in the DI Kelly Porter series by Rachel Lynch is another excellent 5 star read ( as were all the previous 11 in the series.
I wholeheartedly recommend this series for anyone who loves crime/police procedural books definitely my favourite genre.
Whilst Kelly Porter is the main character there are others too like Kate, Johnny, Ted and now the newly introduced Fin. I like how the author intertwines their domestic lives into the stories.
This book features a discredited funeral director (currently topical) a nursing home and a feuding family which all go together to make an excellent read.

I just love the Kelly Porter series so was excited to read this. A great storyline as usual therefore had me turning the pages quickly. Some tension and plot twists keep the reader guessing. Although it can be read as a standalone I advise to read the books in order so you get all the background story. It's such a good series you will be delighted.

DI Kelly and her team are still trying to get over the death of one of their own, Rob where they are called onto another investigation. There has been a body being found in a bottom of a quarry, at first thoughts that the Person has taken their own life as they discover a suicide note in them. but Kelly senses that something isn’t right. With the help of her team and a new addition Fin, they investigate, and they find out that the body is no other that Victor who is a local undertaker. What happened to him and why?
Kelly has her own problems when she comes home to find Johnnie’s ex -wife drinking wine at her home. Their relationship has had troubles before. What has Johnnie got himself involved in this time?
Shared remains is another fabulous edition to the DI Kelly Porter series. It is book 12 in the series. This is another gripping page turner in the backdrop of Cumbria. Dealing with death, fraud, and assisted suicide. Like the other books in this series, I couldn’t put this down. I read in one day. I can’t wait for more. 5 stars

I think the series has gone off the boil a bit. It's gone on too long. I don't think I will read any further books on this series if she does any.

I was absolutely thrilled to be approved to read this latest addition to the wonderful Kelly Porter series and for me it was the best so far but I have to say every book in the series has been just perfect. Set in the beautiful Lake District in Cumbria which is very near to where I live this is superb police procedural with a plot line that kept me glued to my Kindle as I tried to figure out just who was the guilty person and also for what reason.
I loved being back with Kelly and her team and really enjoyed catching up with the backstories I think that’s what makes all the books in the series so good the ongoing lives of the team are just as interesting as the plot and this book in particular excelled itself on that score.
Wonderful writing, fabulously clever storytelling and superb characters what more could you ask for……. Well the next book quickly please Rachel Lynch and many, many thanks to you for a 5 star read.

Another excellent read in the Detective Kelly Porter series, one of the best in the genre. A very topical plot and some excellent characters, with plenty of tension and twists makes this an easy 5* read from me. A wonderful addition to the DI Kelly Porter series. Book 12 finds Kelly battling on multiple fronts. She is trying to come to terms with the death of her DS and friend Rob and his replacement in the team. She's having serious problems with partner Johnny and to cap it all the doozy of a case lands on her desk which threatens her new friend Mary. Shared Remains deals with some very serious, topical and distasteful issues in a superb way. I couldn't put it down. A definite 5* winner. Can't wait for the next outing for Kelly and the crew.

The book started as a slow burn, creating a sombre atmosphere as the backdrop to the story, before moving into top gear and becoming a page turner with a roller coaster of emotions.

The devious plot is set against the beautiful autumn colours of the Cumbrian landscape.

For DI Kelly Porter, there seems to be no escape from her professional and personal problems.
With her team still recovering from the death of a colleague, the arrival of a new DS will be sensitive, a situation which Kelly is doing her best to avoid by staying out of the office.

On a personal level, Kelly’s relationship with Johnny is in trouble and her home is no longer a shelter from the pressure of work.
After a long arduous day, Kelly is shocked to return home, only to find Johnny entertaining his ex – wife.
And that is only the first of many surprises.

Without giving away any spoilers, the very topical and contentious subject in the book gave me pause for thought.
There are plenty of twists, turns and red herrings before all is revealed.

Gripping does not come close! A genuine didn't want to put it down read and another fantastic addition to this brilliant series.
Again the author tackles an important and topical crime, (no spoilers here), and as always she knocks it out of the park.
The main plot opens with a body being pushed into a quarry.
The subplot opens with tension at home and sadness at work, following the death of Kelly’s colleague Rob.
Both plots give hours of enjoyable reading. Out of one will come justice and the other, we hope, happiness, but with Kelly nothing is easy and I can't wait to accompany her again to see what life throws at her next.
While this works perfectly well as a standalone I urge you to read the series in order, and I envy you the binge read.

The team is still suffering from the trauma of their last big case when a body is discovered in a quarry on Morningside land. Did he fall or was he pushed? Morningside is split between 2 brothers and there is a nursing home on one of the properties which has an involvement in the story. Ds Fin Maguire joins the team and he may have a hard time settling in. I really like Rachel’s writing and have followed the books from the beginning. I love her descriptions and love the way the emotions of the characters come through. There is grief, betrayal of trust, sibling rivalry so certainly a mixed bag. The secrets people have and the lengths they go to for money also play a part. I am certainly looking forward to the next book.

This book is gritty and very thought provoking it is dealing with death, deception and euthanasia. It really makes a reader think about the various issues raised.
Aswell as dealing with crime Kelly is also having to deal with personal issues too.
I have read all of this series and will be looking forward to the next. Thank you for advanced copy.

When remains are found at the bottom of a quarry, Kelly Porter and her team investigate. When the victim turns out to be a local funeral director, and links to unusual care home deaths become apparent the team are glad of the help of new addition Fin.

As always the beautiful descriptions of the Lake District dominate this story. This is a great series, each book better than the last. In this I have to say I liked seeing a new no nonsense side of Kelly, both personally and professionally. While the whodunnit was obvious early on, the why took longer to be revealed and was a bit of a shocker. The tale of the two brothers seemed a distraction at first, but became important to the the story. As always the characters are well written and the relationships and dynamics of Kelly’s team are clear to see. In particular her close friendship with Kate.

I really enjoyed this and highly recommend it.

I am a huge fan of Rachel Lynch and I was delighted to get the opportunity to read her newest book Shared Remains. This was one of the most gripping and thrilling books I have read in a long time. I read it over the course of a day as I simply couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read more from the author in the future.

This series continues with another great mystery. The first half was slower than usual and repetitive, and I was bit disappointed in the direction of Kelly's personal relationships. The team is grieving Rob's death from the previous book and they meet a new DS to replace him. However, the mystery itself was unique and what keeps this series going is the freshness of each story. This could be read as a standalone but you would be missing out if you haven't read the others. I discovered Rachel Lynch last summer and made my way through the entire series in no time. The Lake District is its own character and I love when that happens with the setting.
