Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.

A very enjoyable story, where the line between the dead and the non-dead is a thin veil, easily crossed.

Fun and entertaining graphics, with an engaging story had me finish it in one sitting.

Stresses loyalty, love and family - I would highly recommend it. I would be glad to read and review more from this author.

Rating this 5-stars as I cannot think of a thing that could have been improved.

Thanks NetGalley.

I wanted to like this graphic novel, but I felt there were a lot of holes in the story. I wasn't exactly sure what I was reading about. Each chapter is a different tale, but I needed more background information to follow what was going on. This just wasn't my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good graphic novel, it just wasn't one for me. I can't even give a proper summary so this is from GoodReads.

Follow Oscar and his mysterious assistant Agnes as they embark on a terrifying yet heartwarming journey across ethereal realms, rescuing lost souls and solving creepy mysteries. Their travels take them across great distances and even through time, as Oscar sleuths out why the spirits he contends with are restless and malcontent. Yet the more mysteries he solves, the clearer it becomes that there's a greater game afoot, one that involves Oscar's own forgotten origin story.

This is a great start to a series, providing just enough info and intrigue to be compelling and fun and prompt readers to seek out more. The art is amazing, with a muted color palette that sets the scene really well. The story takes place in the mid 90's or so, but with a bunch of steampunk and Lovecraftian elements. The design of the characters and setting is so great, and really sells the paranormal feeling without going too hard or too scary. The story at the moment seems episodic, following Oscar's investigations into various paranormal situations. There's a bit of variety in the two stories presented here, and they serve well to set up the mystery of why Oscar is as he is as well as introduce some of the supporting cast members. I enjoyed reading this and will definitely read more of this series.

A webcomic series turned to graphic novel. The Strange Tales of Oscar Zahn is a collection of paranormal meets Sci Fi adventures that all center around our main character Oscar. He’s a paranormal investigator that just so happens to be a floating skull that tends to pull on some heartstrings. The pace of the first tale was a little slow for me but it certainly picks up and catches my attention the further in I got into each chapter. The art style and choice of colors used were beautiful with being dark at times to soft and muted. My favorite use of the dreamy soft palette were in the Stardust and Soliloquies chapters. So captivating! The characters were interesting but I also would have liked a smoother transition going into each chapter. All in all great tales and I can’t wait to see what new ones Oscar gets into in the future.

Thanks to Clarkson Potter, Ten Speed Press and NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The graphic novel collects together a series of interconnected stories about a paranormal investigator who is himself paranormal (?). The art has a simple, clean style to it that creates an interesting counterpoint to the dark themes and often-explicit violence. Characters tend to be drawn in a more rounded style which I quite liked. The muted but not dull palette is a nice choice as well.
The stories didn't hold my attention as much as I had hoped. Perhaps these struggled in adaptation from webcomic format to graphic novel format; I've seen that have a negative impact on story flow before. I think it's more that the stories just didn't grab my personal attention, not that there was anything wrong with them. Perhaps it's because they had a meandering feel that spent time creating a vibe than moving the storyline forward. There's nothing wrong with that if you enjoy that sort of graphic novel; it's just not my general preference. Nevertheless, the main character (Oscar) was engaging enough to carry it through for me.
Something that didn't sit quite right: many characters speak with a very modern vernacular. I found that odd, especially when they're supposed to be soldiers in World War II (for example). I would have appreciated it if they had spoken in a more authentic voice for that time period.
If you enjoy slower-paced, creepy, thought-provoking graphic novels, this may be a good one for you.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley, and this review is voluntary

The synopsis tells the tale accurately. It's about Oscar Zahn, and the adventures taken, and sights seen. Each chapter serves as it's own story within the same universe. Very fun, enjoyable. Just a nice balanced story, with a good amount of world-building.

Pretty interesting story. It wasn’t the best and not too captivating but it is volume 1 so I do think it will get more interesting. It’s a volume of short interesting stories about oscar Zahn and his paranormal activities by transferring lost souls into peace and rest. The stories are sweet and interesting

This was just alright!

The story was ok, the art was ok; nothing spectacular.

Will I be reading future volumes? Maybe.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this amazing graphic novel.

Technically this is a reread as I originally read this series when it was on the Webtoons platform, Oscar Zahn was one of my favorite stories on that app so to see it on here was a joy because now I can collect a physical copy for my personal library. The art style and story telling was my favorite out of this beautiful story as I loved the idea of a talking skull going through people's stories and helps ghosts or other creatures either pass on or become more.

Character wise, Oscar has a way of talking that reminds me of the dark whimsy Doctor Who has, where the adventures feel light until the weight of what is happening or what has been said hits hard. Especially with the opening chapter talking to the baby. None of the adventures in this volume are light but the way they're drawn almost feels like a lure. The way this story was illustrated translated beautifully into a printed page structure.

This beautifully illustrated graphic novel chronicles the misadventures of the enigmatic (yet charming) paranormal investigator, Oscar Zahn. Who also just so happens to be a dapper floating skull with a heart of gold.

One the one hand, this graphic novel is absolutely stunning. The art is amazing! I loved the use of color in this, as well as the fun character designs (especially for more supernatural leaning characters like Oscar and the Hydronauts). I also really liked Vuong's use of more eery, Eldrich designs.

The biggest obstacle that kept me from loving this book was how nonsensical the plot was. The 1st chapter (Lost and Found) felt like its own complete short story, so The Last Soldier of the Somme ark (chapters 2-4) felt like a completely different entity. The same happened with the Stardust and Soliloquies ark (chapters 5-7). The transitions between the different arks felt a bit abrupt - if this were marketed as a graphic short story collection, I think it would have made the experience less jarring.

Overall, I think I liked the art and the characters more than the story itself.
