I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Last Goodbye’, book 15 in the Detective Gina Harte series written by Carla Kovach, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
DI Gina Harte is put in charge when an emaciated woman who’s had a finger cut off is found hiding behind a rubbish bin. Their investigation leads them to the abduction of more women who’ve been drugged and spied on by a person in their lofts. Time is running out to find the women and the person who hates them enough to want them dead.
‘Her Last Goodbye’ is an action-packed police thriller with DI Gina Harte leading the investigation assisted by DS Jacob Driscoll who’s now fit enough to return to work. This must be one of the most difficult and confusing cases they’ve had to deal with as they know there’s a connection between the women but it’s proving hard to work out what it is, especially as the women are all keeping a secret. The plot is cleverly thought-out with lots of drama, suspense, twists and turns, and so many suspects that it was impossible for me to guess who’s responsible. It’s been good to meet up once again with Gina and her team and I have no hesitation in recommending this thriller. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series.
Love this really dark twisted book. It starts with a young girl hiding out in a barn but when she tells her story it’s a race against time to find her mother who the bad man took and how long has the bad man actually been watching this woman as the kid claims she saw him in her house. As this take a darker turn and another woman goes missing I won’t spoil this one but it’s a great read.
Loved it!! The Detective Gina Harte Series is definitely one of my favorites. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put the book down because I had to know who was behind the disappearance of Darcie and why. Poor Cleo will probably be traumatized for life. I knew there had to be some connection between the missing woman and that it must be related to what happened on the lake all the years ago. Darcie, Shannon and Anna seemed more like frenemies than actual friends. These women have terrible taste in men. I was suspicious of so many people, but never guessed who was actually behind everything. I was definitely shocked when everything was finally revealed. So much effort was put into getting revenge, when it really wasn't anyone's fault. The book kept me guessing until the very end. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Definitely recommend the book and the previous ones in the series. This was a great mystery/thriller. Loved the characters, writing style and story. I can't wait to find out what's next for Det. Gina Harte. So glad DCI Briggs and Gina are still a couple. What's going to happen when everyone finds out? They belong together. Look forward to reading more books by the author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Just wow! Carla Kovach knocks another one out of the park! She is a definite ‘go-to’ author for me and she delivers time and time again. Such a rich cast of characters that kept me hooked from beginning to end. It was impossible to know who to trust! Packed with tension, secrets and lies. Totally loved it.
Thank you NetGalley Carla Kovach and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book.
The story’s intensity and the emotional depth of the characters made it impossible to put down.
What struck me most about this book was the raw depiction of human emotions and the intricate web of relationships that Kovach expertly navigates. The suspense built with each chapter, leading to a jaw-dropping twist that I didn’t see coming.
In all, “Her Last Goodbye” is a compelling read that combines a complex mystery with a touching exploration of the lengths we go to for the ones we love. It’s a testament to Kovach’s talent for storytelling, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a crime thriller that’s both thrilling and emotionally resonant.
Brilliant book it’s lovely to see how Gina’s getting on. We have a kidnap situation they find a little girl hiding as she is terrified as she saw her mother being taken by a man, as he’s putting her in the back of a van a severed finger falls on the grass then another girl is kidnapped Gina has to find the kidnapper before another girl goes missing the story is fast paced and would never have guessed who he was.
Loved it can’t wait for next one.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC
The truth will out - only in this case the guilty must pay!
What a brilliant book!! I am absolutely loving this series. Having only joined at book 10 I am completely sold on Carla Kovac’s writing and this series.
Carla is brilliant at hiding the truth from the reader. She always has so many characters and they’re all so brilliantly balanced and impossibly entwined that you really can’t make a judgment until the very last chapters. Everyone is guilty of something, but are they guilty of murder?
From the moment I picked this book up to the moment I finished it I was hooked. So twisty, so thrilling and at a break neck speed!
Thank you to NetGalley for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
DI GIna Harte goes down the rabbit hole hunting for Darcie, who was kidnapped in front of her small daughter Cleo, Other women have also been taken and Gina realizes that she's got to solve this case not only for Cleo but for all the women, It's nicely twisty, While this is the latest in a long running series, it will be fine as a standalone. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. For fans of the genre, Love DI Harte.
Her last goodbye is book 15 in the D. I. Gina Harte series and yet again the author doesn’t disappoint.
When little Chloe turns up at a local B & B on her own, the police are called. D.I Gina Harte asks the child where her mother is. She tells Gina that someone wearing a mask has bundled her mother Darcie into a car. Her mother told her to run. The team are on full speed to find the missing mother. Which clues of an incident that happened 20 years ago are linked to her disappearance. When another one of Darcie’s other friends, turns up and half dead that she must be put into a coma. Who is seeking out revenge and why?
This is another complex thriller with multiple threads and characters and at first wondered how it linked together, but it all comes clear right at the end. This is another great read from the author. I can’t wait for the next book.
Thank you Bookoutre and Netgalley for this book.
I have read all but 2 (nos 2 and 3) of the Gina Harte series and this certainly didn't disappoint.
Great characters as always and full of suspense. For once I didn't guess who the murderer was until very near the end.
I love this series, it is in my top ten so please keep writing, we need more.
Highly recommend this series - if you haven't read the Gina Harte series you should.
First book by this author and i enjoyed it. Will go back and read from the first book
Like the characters and storyline alot
Totally recommend
Love the Gina Harte books and this one didn’t disappoint! Story is centred around a mum who has been kidnapped leaving her young daughter behind. Great whodunnit looking forward to the next one
What if nothing is as it seems, and nobody is who you think they are?.....
This book was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I felt like I was feeling every part of what the characters felt and went through.
It kept me on the edge of my seat. The story was also very well written, with lots of suspense and guessing. It felt like every paragraph, the questions where building up, creating more suspense to the book. It made me mad, angry and sad all at the same time.
My favorite 2024 read so far, and definitely a must read for every book lover out there who loves a psychological thriller.
Good book by Ms Kovach, I really enojoyed the fact that Gina acted more independent for this one without support from her boss/on and off lover which in my opinion felt like a breather for her to act more professionally. The story itself was a little predictable but all in all a good book which I enjoyed. Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
I just reviewed Her Last Goodbye (Detective Gina Harte Book 15) by Carla Kovach. #HerLastGoodbye #NetGalley
This is a whodunnit with a lot of suspects. The team is determined to find answers and to catch the person or persons responsible for kidnapping women. They follow confusing clues and finally find the surprising perpetrators. This was a good mystery with a lot of action!
Thank yku NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to review an ARC of this book. I had no idea that it was technically part of a series following DI Gina Harte but I’m happy to say it worked well as a standalone and besides not knowing some references to her past I was still able to understand what was going on. This book was super well written and had me guessing all the way through as it continued to introduce more and more characters and scenarios. I had it figured out… partly, and then doubted myself as the story went on. The ending and epilogue threw me through a loop once a certain background story came to light. All in all a good read and I think I’ll be exploring the rest of the Gina Harte series!
I always enjoy Detective Gina Harte novels and this was no exception. Carla Kovach has a style of writing that I find so easy to read.
I found that I got a little lost in the second half of the book although that may well have been down to me, I enjoyed the beginning of the novel particularly and found the whole thing to be well plotted.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookoutre for providing me with an Advance Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
Such a brilliant story which kept me in suspense throughout. I look forward to reading more by Carla
Exciting and tragic: women go missing😢
I just did not make the connection between the prologue and the victims DI Gina Harte is tasked with locating and saving until very near the end. I love a complex case and this is one with woman disappearing, one taken right under her young daughter's eyes, and several colleagues and former lovers under suspicion. Gina just knows the women are somehow connected and, by golly, she does eventually figure it out. The plot is one wild ride and I loved it!
Young, frightened Cleo's plight pulled me in and then the complicated investigation kept me engrossed and guessing. It's unpredictable, tragic and well written. Her Last Goodbye was an awesome story and an excellent addition to the Gina Harte series. I'll be anticipating its successor😉.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Loved this book. Was a bit worried as I hadn’t read any before. But I didn’t need to! Absolutely outstanding!
