Emma Bennett’s The Baby Plan is a touching entry into women’s fiction with a hint of romance. The story centers on an aunt who unexpectedly finds herself caring for her sister’s baby following a tragic event. This premise sets the stage for a narrative that explores themes of family, loss, and the challenges of stepping into a new role under difficult circumstances.
The novel is endearing and provides a comforting read, especially when enjoyed with a cup of tea. Bennett’s writing is warm and approachable, capturing the emotional nuances of the protagonist’s journey as she adapts to her new responsibilities. However, despite its heartwarming elements, the book falls short in delivering a deeper emotional impact or a more dynamic plot.
While the story is certainly sweet, it unfolds in a somewhat predictable manner, and the characters could have benefited from more depth to fully resonate with readers. The novel remains enjoyable but doesn’t quite push the boundaries of its genre.
In summary, The Baby Plan is a solid three-star read—pleasant and comforting, yet lacking in the intensity and innovation that might make it truly memorable. It’s ideal for a light, soothing escape but doesn’t offer much in terms of groundbreaking storytelling.

Bennet’s writing is filled with warmth and humor, making this story a delightful and engaging read for anyone who enjoys contemporary romance with a touch of real-life complexity.

Bennet expertly balances the lighthearted and more serious moments, portraying the ups and downs of relationships and the unpredictability of life.
The characters in "The Baby Plan" are relatable and endearing, each bringing their own set of hopes, fears, and quirks to the narrative. With its blend of romance, humor, and heartfelt moments, "The Baby Plan" is a perfect read for anyone who has ever faced the uncertainties of life’s biggest decisions. Emma Bennet delivers a story that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, making it a must-read for fans of contemporary fiction that deals with love, family, and the surprises that life often throws our way.
A lovely fun read.
It is a Single parent trope. The characters are very sweet and it’s nice to see them coming together after they have been through a lot in their lives.
This was my first experience reading something by this author and I enjoyed it. The story is heartwarming and emotional and the romance was very sweet. After the sudden and tragic death of her sister, Sophie becomes custodian to her baby girl, Alana. A baby she didn't even know her sister had. She becomes overwhelmed, learning to care for a baby and balancing her career. To top things off, a strange man, Samson, shows up at her door claiming to be Alana's father. She initially feels threatened and protective of Alana, but Sophie and Samson eventually work out a plan for her and Alana to stay with him. As they spend more time together caring for and bonding with Alana, their attraction to each other grows stronger and as the story unfolds, things become more complicated.
The story was short but sweet. I would have liked to see a bit more backstory and development of the characters, as it would've given the story more depth. Nevertheless, it was entertaining and the characters were relatable and likable and it was easy to root for them as the story progressed.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a complimentary copy. This is my honest review.
It was cute and fun, but the characters lacked development. I love the plot ( single parent ) and it has only 12 chapters, which feature two strangers who become parents overnight after a tragedy. The story is heartwarming and unique, and I enjoy reading the relationship begin as they try to raise the baby together in the best way they can.
Thank you to the author and the publishing house for this arc,
This book was just adorable. I read it in one setting. After a tragedy takes the life of her estranged sister, Emma is suddenly faced with the reality that she had a niece she didn’t know even existed. Now, Emma is faced with having to figure out how to take care of baby all the while fending off we growing feelings for her neice’s father. Things get adorably complicated when the two move in together as they learn to coparent.
"The Baby Plan" by Emma Bennet is a charming and heartwarming contemporary romance novel that explores the complexities of family, love, and unexpected surprises. The author's writing style is engaging and fluid, making it easy for readers to become immersed in Sophie's world and dilemmas. Bennet skillfully balances humor and heartfelt moments, creating a narrative that is both entertaining and emotionally resonant.
This is a sweet read that will make you melt. To begin with, this is a very sad story - Sophie is estranged from her sister but learns that she has died in a car crash, leaving behind a baby girl. She automatically takes baby Alana and begins to rearrange her life around her, but the father quickly turns up having also only just learned about his daughter. The two must learn to coparent and as they begin to feel more like a family, they can’t ignore the romantic feelings developing.
This would be a five star read if it had been a bit longer and more in depth, as the premise falls into place so adorably. The characters are very intriguing and it would have been nice to know more about them! A very bingeable read - I devoured it in a day.
What to expect:
- unexpected baby
- strangers to roommates to lovers
- forced proximity
- closed door
This fell a little flat for me tbh, I couldn’t really get into it much which sucked, as I had high hopes going in. I just found the fmc to be super annoying
Cute, light read, no angst.
A lot of the story drops on you right away, and then you get into the storyline. Well developed characters and a light read.
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books Publishing for my DRC.
This book was cute. There was nothing that really stood out about it for me but it was enjoyable. There was a lot of misunderstanding and characters not talking to one another but besides that I liked the way the story progressed. I always wish there was more romance and that was no different in this book but seeing the little happy family at the end made up for it.
What's a women to do when she gets custody o her niece and the baby's father shows up claiming he's the father. Well in The Baby plan you get a laugh out loud rom com.
Not my cup of tea. Loved the premise, but wasn’t a fan of the execution. The characters fell a bit flat for me. I’m sure this book would be loved by some, it just wasn’t for me!
I can thoroughly recommend this book for a good read. It is as it says a learning to love and laugh feel good romance story. Couldn’t put it down and just read it into the night until I finished it. Loved it!!!!
This book was slow for me to get into but I really enjoyed the pacing, the depth of the characters and how the author wove the story together!
This was a romantic novel about a woman- Sophie , who learns her estranged sister has died in an automobile accident. She’s surprised to find out that her sister had a baby-Alana, and even more surprised when a stranger knocks on her door and says that he’s Alana’s father. Now Samson and Sophie need to come up with a way they can both share raising Alana. The story itself was enjoyable and had some nice details, but the characters and events were just not developed enough. I never really got to know any of the characters and it was hard to find them likeable . The story had all the elements of a really good book but it just fell flat for me. The ending also felt very abrupt and rushed. Overall a fast romance that’s easy to read. Thank you NetGalley for the advance digital copy 3.5⭐️
A cute fun read of and aunt and a unexpected father taking care of an infant and falling in love. Kind of a routine story, nice for a summer read.
Thank you Joffe and NetGalley for this ARC of The Baby Plan by Emma Bennet ( previously Her sister's baby)
This closed door romance has a lovely premise of A high powered career driven woman, Sophie whose life turns upside down when she suddenly becomes the guardian to her late sister's 8 month old daughter Alana. As this wasn't hard enough for Sophie ( who had a non existent relationship with her sister) out of the wood work crawls the baby's daddy Samson, who definitely wasn't going to play a passive role.
The plot is this micro agrresion and tension between them turns to love...
I loved the premise, I found myself not liking Sophie very much and really struggling to understand why she was so uni dimensionally portrayed. This Found family, Accidental dad trope had lots of promise but felt a little staccato at times, I really liked Samson and his desire to be present for Alana.
Sadly I couldn't relate to Sophie much and couldn't give this book a higher rating because of this,
I really like this trope, and was excited for the story, but unfortunately, it was read to me as too formal to feel connected to the characters. Thank you for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
This was a pretty good, relatively light read. I struggled a bit to get into it and stay interested in it, but it had a decent storyline.
