Her Pretty Lies is a books with so many twists and turns! The first half was a bit slow and hard for me to get into, but it really picked up by the halfway point. Every character has their own secrets and lies and they were all intertwined. The story kept me engaged and questioning everything and everyone up until the end. The twists at the end were a little over the top for me but overall, it was a pretty good and entertaining read!
I had the opportunity to read an ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley.
Before I go into my review, I want to remind whoever is reading this to remember that liking or disliking books is subjective and this is just my take on it.
At the start of the book there were a handful of brief chapters that bounced from storyline to storyline and with little to no context of who “she” was it was initially hard to keep up with what I was reading. I understand now reading the book in full that it was intentional because it would’ve spoiled some of the characters secrets that turned out to be big reveals.
After that getting past the hurdle of trying to grasp what I was reading, it was a fast paced read. I had some sympathy at times for the FMC and other times I was questioning why she didn’t go with her gut when things felt off. There were a lot of twists and turns but I felt like the fact that there were so many of them, at some point you’re like ok, this has transcended reality even in the world of fiction, let’s wrap it up.
Again, I want to be super clear that liking or disliking books is subjective and I think anyone should try out a book regardless of reviews because what may have not been someone’s favorite, it can very well be theirs and that’s the beauty of reading!
It took me a while to get into the book, but all the twists and turns made the book exciting from start to finish. I was on the edge of my seat and guessing along, and every time I thought I was on the right track, there was another twist. The last few chapters in particular left me speechless (in a good way).
After losing her fellowship and her boyfriend, Kendall meets an influencer who turns her world even more upside down. This book is full of twists and turns that keep you reading till the last page. its a nice quick read with a great twist at the end.
A psychology student's perfect life shatters when she is suspected of murder after a tragic incident. With her dreams of marriage, a prestigious fellowship, and a new apartment at risk, she must uncover hidden truths and prove her innocence under the suspicious eyes of those around her.
This book is full of secrets and twists, making it hard to distinguish truth from lies. Although the plot captivates until about 80% through, the final part is overly complex, resulting in a 3.5-star rating. Fans of Freida MF and Daniel Hurst will enjoy this book.
Thanks to Storm Publishing, NetGalley, and Angela Henry for the ARC; release date is May 3rd, 2024.
"Her Pretty Lies" is an exciting book and quite the page turner that delves into the complexities of deception, betrayal, and the consequences of keeping secrets. The author wonderfully weaves together multiple narrative threads, gradually unraveling the characters' hidden agendas and buried pasts. Each chapter reveals new layers of intrigue, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as they navigate the twists and turns of the plot. And boy are there some twists and turns! Just when you think you know everything, each of the last few chapters hit you with a new twist! I really enjoyed this book, I had some suspicious early on, and some were proven correct and some I didn't see coming! It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and I can't wait to read more from this great author!
Great book, really enjoyed the twists and turns that this took me on and I would definitely recommend to a friend.
This book was very twisty and many times had me confused (in a good way). The book starts off a little slow but quickly picks up and I couldn’t put it down! Such a great read.
If you like Frieda McFadden books I’m sure you would enjoy this one
Kendall Good was living the good life. After being accepted into grad school, Kendall received the Lena Bennett Memorial Fellowship, the first student ever to do so. Because of the lucrative fellowship money, Kendall decided to drain her savings and treat herself by going on a trip to Europe. Everything was going just fine until Kendall received a call from the dean of arts and sciences, who informed her that the fellowship funds were no longer available.
WTH!!! How was Kendall supposed to pay for school? She recently quit her minimum wage library job, and with no money in her savings, Kendall was BROKE! To make matters worse, as Kendall went to confide in her boyfriend, Byron, she found him in the middle of an intimate encounter with his ex. Could this situation get any worse? Well, if you’re a thriller lover, you know that it definitely can!
In the earlier portion of this book, the story is written from two points of view. One is Kendall’s, but the other pov is not revealed until later on. Initially, I found that confusing, and I wasn’t sure how the two stories connected.
Every character is flawed. Every character is connected, and most have ulterior motives. It was cool to see how all the loose ends came together. If you like thrillers with lots of twists, this book is for you!
Thank you NetGalley and Stone Publishing for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.
I found this book to be a roller coaster with my interest. It started strong and then it came or went. I think it's because all that was happening to Kendall normally gets spread over time and character. This was a bit too much at once, almost like the author didn't know what she wanted the story to lead to and then chose everything.
Not my favorite, which is sad because it had me hooked.
I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller! The first half of the book has me guessing as to where the book would go. The last 25% was a whirlwind!! 4 stars!!

Wow!! Just wow!! It was so full of unexpected twists!!! Thinking I had it all figured out, another twist came at me!!
Thank you NetGalley for this advanced reader copy!!!
I really enjoyed this book and there were so many plot twist (maybe too many or too many characters and not enough time? This book really was easy to read and I couldn't put it down because I had to know what was going on. Tbh I was a bit confused at the start with the then/now perspectives of various people but it all made sense, especially at the end!
Thank you to Storm Publishing via NetGalley!
“Her Pretty Lies” [English Review]
by Angela Henry
★★★★☆
Kendall Good is a woman who has it all! Kendall has a prestigious fellowship to get her master's degree in psychology and she has a boyfriend she wants to marry one day! She's also found a great apartment to start this new chapter in her life... But from one day to the next, her world is turned upside down: She loses her fellowship and finds out that her perfect boyfriend is having an affair with his ex...
Broke and homeless, Kendall is forced to accept an offer from Mackenzie, a popular influencer, who gives her a great chance to get her life back on track! After all, nothing can go wrong, right? Wrong! Everything turns into a real nightmare: Mackenzie has been murdered and Kendall... is the prime suspect!
“Her Pretty Lies” is a compelling thriller! Author Angela Henry succeeds in creating a strong main character, Kendall Good. Readers will hope that her luck will turn, from the first page to the last. The story is full of twists and turns... a real rollercoaster ride through the world of lies and secrets of these characters! However, it can also be a dizzying ride as the number of twists and turns can confuse the reader as they happen almost at the speed of light!
Without presenting a new formula, the author manages to be competent as the story is well constructed and the secondary characters are interesting, adding a special flavor to the narrative. A book that delivers what it promises: a real game of lies and secrets that can entertain fans of psychological thrillers!
It was a fast-paced book and I finished it in one sitting. The book had me hooked from the beginning.
So many twist and turns that had me on the edge of my seat. The story is told from dual POV and made it difficult to decide who to trust.
All the characters seemed to be hiding something which the storyline even better. The book kept me guessing until the very end. This was my first book by Angela Henry and I absolutely loved it❤️
This was a super twisty fast paced read! The reader follows Kendall as she is having quite possibly the worst day of her life, and it continues ro spiral with every decision she seems to make. There was good character development and I loved the exploration of the different characters and how they all seemed to tie together. Every character is hiding something and makes it difficult to predict what will happen next. Thoroughly enjoyable read!
Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC!
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review. I wasn’t instantly grabbed by this story but as it progressed and the elements began to gel together I was hooked. I found myself being suspicious of many of the characters and I really wanted to see how it would end. Lots of twists and one I definitely didn’t see coming! A really enjoyable read after a slow start. I would definitely recommend this book. 4 stars from me.

I can honestly say this book kept me on the edge of my seat! So many crazy events took place between several characters, that my head was spinning. I enjoyed this book, and a few twists that completely caught me off guard was a nice touch for a thriller. Sometimes you get stories that are so predictable, but this book was pretty twisty. I will say that some of the constant OMG moments were a little much between every character involved, just about, but that does not take away from how good this book was. I think I was just a little surprised that some characters later revealed what they knew all along, and I found it hard to believe they kept their cool for so much of the beginning of the book that they were in.
If you are looking for a thriller with murder, deception, and twists in the plot all the way to the very end of the book, this is for you.
This book publishes in just TWO day - May 3rd, 2024, so get it when you can!
Thank you to Netgalley, Angela Henry, and Storm Publishing for the early read prior to publication day!
Firstly thank you to NetGalley, the author & publisher for my arc of this book.
The beginning of the book was jumping everywhere while we get a base of the characters and timeline but it was easy enough to follow.
Kendall Good is a psychology student in Addison, Ohio , when there is a problem with her funding and her boyfriend of 3 years breaks up with her she feels her life is crumbling around her. Then ‘it’ girl Mackenzie gives Kendall the opportunity of a lifetime but the only problem is it’s illegal. However it has the potential to solve all her problems. Or so she thinks!
Kendall is a diary keeper since she was a child so we are treated to diary snippets from her younger years which builds the story of her past.
The story has an excellent plot, not the usual trope you find in thrillers, Sooooo many family secrets, deceit, lies, betrayal, murder, skeletons in the closet and twists galore, they just keep coming and coming, I really couldn’t put this down! It’s one of them books you choose one more chapter over sleep. The ending packed a punch and it was definitely a wild ride for me.
Kept me guessing! I thought I had figured it out and it couldn't get anymore thrilling, I was definitely wrong. I stayed on the edge of my seat the entire time reading this! If you love thrillers, this is definitely for you!
