Her Pretty Lies by Angela Henry was a good twisty thriller. It started a little slow for me but once it got started, wow! I thought I had a few things figured out. Some I did and some I did not. Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the eArc.
Wow!!! This book gave me such whiplash from the twists it contained. Angela Henry and Her pretty Lies was a twisty turn(I think that's a word) rollercoaster of a ride the had me thinking What The Heck did she just say? What an incredible read.
my only complaint is that maybe some of the twists were not needed because you did find yourself having to reread some if the parts to make sure you were keeping everything straight. But what an absolutely enjoyable read. I am now a fan of Angela Henry.
Thank you NetGalley, Angela Henry, and Storm Publishing for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book had so many twists and turns! It was a little hard to keep up at times but still a decent short and quick story. Lots of family drama in this book!!
This book started off slow but soon picked up pace. The plot was good. The characters were interesting. It was well written and engaging throughout.
A great psychological thriller.
It’s everything you wanted, gripping edge of your seat vibes all the time.. I just needed a little something more…….
I read this in a day and couldn’t put it down, I thought I was clued up working it all out and then bang.. it takes you down a different turn.
I enjoyed it, I would say it took a while to get into but then it just went super fast and had me hooked. I liked reading the characters perspectives in the story though the author captured this really well. Some of the language used I wasn’t on par with, which I think let the story down.
Picked it up for the synopsis and wasn't disappointed as the prologue gets into action right away. While the initial chapters are a bit of a slow burn, it soon turns into a fast paced thriller edged with twists.
Enjoyed the mystery and the characters are well written. Also loved the premise of the book. It's packed well with twists and kept me guessing. Would want to read more by the author!
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this e-arc in exchange of my unbiased review.
This book was so twisty! Every time I thought I figured out whodunnit another plot twist was thrown in to change it all! Great read, my only dislike was not knowing which character chapter I was reading but quickly found out as you got through the chapter.
2.5 stars rounded up
I really couldn't give this book more stars. I really wanted to like it more, but if I weren't reading an ARC, this would have been a DNF for me.
It took over half the book for the story to begin. The entire first half was so boring, and confusing and unnecessary set up. The perspectives kept switching between first and third person, and the confusion lasted so long that I lost interest. Some mystery in the beginning is great and I love when books do that, but this one just took waaaaayy too long to start moving.
I did round up to 3 stars, because once the story actually started, I did end up enjoying it. Definitely not my favorite, but I did like how many twists popped up, most of which I didn't see coming, and how everything was woven together in the end.
Overall, I would say unless you're into a massive slow burn, this book isn't for you.
I don't think I've ever read a book with so many twists! I was hooked from the beginning to the very end!
Kendall has received a fellowship to attend Bellbrook, and she is excited about it until it is ripped from her. Kendall is upset by this, however she is determined to complete her psych degree, even if it means she has to do some dirty work to make ends meet. She is broke and now homeless, until she encounters the famous influencer MacKenzie Burk. Mac offers Kendall a deal that will provide her with more than enough funds, suggesting she commit academic fraud and attend her class for her. Kendall agrees to this, however not long after she starts impersonating Mac, Mac is murdered in their shared apartment. Kendall becomes a person of interest after the police find incriminating pictures Kendall posted to her instagram, pictures she was forced to post as part of some weird scavenger hunt an anonymous person required of her as part of blackmail. Kendall is determined to prove her innocence and starts digging into this "MacKenzie Burk", who turns out to not be the real MacKenzie Burk. Along the way, Kendall finds the answers she's been looking for and then some!
This book was so good, every few chapters there was a twist! We find out who this imposter was and her connection to the real Mac, we find out what happened to the real Mac and where she was throughout all this, we find out info about Kendall's father (& real father), and more! 5 stars, hands down!
Thank you NetGalley, Storm Publishing, and Angela Henry for this unputdownable arc!
This book had some many twist and turns at the end. I did not predict the ending.
Kendall has lost her tuition and her fellowship for her upcoming year. When an opportunity falls into her lap it seems to good to be true because it actually might be.
This book is so fast paced it keeps going until the very end. I didn’t think there was a slow part in the whole book. You will not be able to figure out the twist and turns of what is going on in Kendall’s life.
You can’t trust anyone in this book…
This might be one of my top favorite thrillers of 2024.

First thing I loved about this book was the locations mentioned. Doing a little deep dive on the author, I found out she’s from the same area. Which is cool, So overall, the book definitely kept you guessing. One minute you thought you had it all figured out, and next it was something completely different. Only thing is, I wish there was more of a deeper backstory between Kendall and Mackenzie. Explain their childhood a little more and the dynamics between their families. But other than that, great read!!!
Ahhh this was a twisty and dramatic read that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was a quick and easy read and super great for in between the heavier thriller or subject matter books. Her Pretty Lies starts with Kendall having the *worst* day of her life and then is offered a sketchy job (at best) to help get her way through the year. What could possibly go wrong?
I loved the characters (Cal the most), the plot and storyline was fresh, there were plenty of twists and secrets that I didn't want to put this one down. You'll want to pick this one up when it releases.
3.5 stars, 4 rounded up on GR
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review :)
This is my first book by Angela Henry and she came through! This book is full of twists and turns and each time I thought I may have had it figured out, another twist happened that had me questioning everything. This book hooks you from the beginning and by the end has everything wrapped up into a neat bow. I will be looking at other Angela Henry books to read in the future!
Thank you to NetGalley and & Storm Publishing for the ARC.
HER PRETTY LIES by Angela Henry is AWESOME! WOWZA! It grabs you by the throat in the very beginning and leaves you gasping for breath in the end.
Kendall Good has had a rough beginning in life. Her father spent 12 years in jail for fraud and embezzlement and her mother was disinterested in her life, to say the least. She has one true friend, Liv and a kleptomania problem. But she is determined to succeed in life. That life and all her immediate plans are tossed into the air when she loses the fellowship at a her college through no fault of her own. But which means she’s also lost her place to live and learns that her boyfriend is cheating on her, all on the same day. Down and out, she accepts an offer to stay at a fellow student’s apartment. But it’s not an altruistic move for Mackenzie Burk, the up-and-coming ‘it’ girl on social media. Mackenzie wants Kendall to take her classes for her and in return she will provide her with free room and board and 10k. When McKenzie is found dead, Kendall falls under suspicion because the police think she is lying about what she knows about Mackenzie. Nothing of what she says checks out. So, who is Mackenzie?
As Kendall continues to cooperate with the police, she is also in trouble with an anonymous person threatening her with a fraud report unless she completes certain tasks. What the heck is going on here? She does however come across a bar owner, Cal, who becomes a shoulder to lean on. What exactly was McKenzie hiding?
I read a lot and there are very few books that I would rate as PERFECT but I’m happy to report that I’m going to add HER PRETTY LIES to that short list! The writing is so clear and concise, I could feel myself walking through opulent hallways and palace-like homes. And the ending? Whiplash smart. Deliciously diabolical. Madness of the mind. What a great ending! THAT, I did not see coming. Now I can’t wait to read Ms. Henry’s other works! BRAVO, MS HENERY! BRAVO! 5+*

Her Pretty Lies follows Kendall, who is a psych student who suddenly finds herself homeless after her fellowship falls through & she catches her boyfriend cheating. She is asked to help out another student in exchange for a place to stay & funds which she accepts, but after someone ends up dead she's framed for murder.
This was such a fun read - there were tons of twists and turns and while some were a bit predictable I enjoyed following the story. The title and cover so perfectly described this story, and I'm so glad to have been given the opportunity to review this book. I will say that since there are quite a few characters we are introduced to it takes a minute to fully get into the story, but once you know who is who it's a GREAT time.
Thank you to Netgalley and & Storm Publishing for the ARC!
Dark psychological thrillers with lots of different character plot twists that has you on the edge and wanting to find out more about what’s going on.
This book had me gripped, constantly wanting to find out more about not only the main character but the ‘side’ characters and their story. How they all were entwined with each other was surprising but that’s the best part about thrillers, the unknown!!
Throughly enjoyed and I can see myself picking up another book from this author in the future.
There was a lot of storylines and characters to keep up with with got confusing for me at times it did have some good twists and turns though
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the arc !! here are my thoughts on it!
- the title is so accurate (LOVE IT) and even the over is so pretty
- the blurb is capable of drawing anyone in
- the plot twists were so good 😯 but some were predictable
- its kinda confusing to begin with but once u get a hold of the story u glide thru the pages
- the writing was simple (too plain)
- there were too many coincidences in my opinion like it didnt seem realistic
Her Pretty Lies is an absolutely brilliant thriller about Kendal Good, whose life is starting to unravel. The scholarship she was given, which would pay for her course fees is no longer available. Homeless and desperate she accepts a deal with a stranger but things take a turn for the worse when someone ends up dead. And Kendals been framed for the murder.
This was such a captivating story, I really did not want it to end. I was hooked, the characters felt real and the twists just kept on coming! This book was thoroughly enjoyable and I’m so thankful to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the advanced readers copy !
This was ok. The writing I wasn’t a fan of, constantly using the words “bitch, fuck, hoe, girl bye, sis” just felt out of place in this kind of book and quite juvenile.
It took a while to get into what was going on fully but once it did it was very fast paced and entertaining. But as things got revealed I was getting more and more confused. There was so many characters and different plot lines all mixed in to one and I was kind of lost.
There was a lot of twists but felt kind of far fetched. I think it’s quite similar to how freida McFadden writes so if you like silly far fetched thrillers you’ll like this. It was an easy and fast paced read and I did find myself wanting to know what was going to happen next.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this arc.
