I really enjoyed Myers's other book, The List of Last Chances, so I was excited when I saw that she put out a sort-of memoir. Halfway home is about womanhood and the feelings and changes women experience at middle age. Beyond just middle age though, this book covers everything from teens learning about their period to coming to terms with menopause. The stories dive into discussions around media and societal views of women, the pressures that are unique to women in childbearing years and the importance of connecting with other women as you are really not alone in whatever you are experiencing. Myers's stories are relatable, but also remind readers that all women are unique and experience things differently. She also comments on what it is like to come to middle age at a time when there is so much change and uncertainty in the world around you, something that is both timely and also timeless as the world is always changing. This book has the perfect blend of humour and seriousness needed to address real issues, while remembering that some things in life are not worth worrying about and are much better taken with a bit of joy and laughter. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher, Anansi press for giving me the chance to read and review this one.
In Halfway Home, Myers maps out how to navigate midlife as she encourages herself and readers to reflect on the past and question how we move forward in a “wildly unpredictable and uncertain” future. In these essays, Myers discusses friendship and loneliness; the me too movement; first bras and periods and boyfriends; feminism and witchcraft; motherhood; identity; female beauty standards and aging expectations; and much more.
A pleasant, tender, and honest collection.

I found these stories to be extremely relevant. They made me laugh out loud at times. At other moments I was nodding to myself and saying - me too! I loved the tales the author crafted about this stage in her life. Well done! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
This book deeply resonated with me and sparked a shift in my perspective. It made me rethink the pressures I face and encouraged me to embrace authenticity. Myers' insights on female camaraderie reminded me of the strength found in solidarity. Additionally, her exploration of the challenges of womanhood in tumultuous times prompted me to consider the broader impact of these issues. Overall, this book charged me to reassess my beliefs and approach life with newfound understanding and resilience.
