"Sister Snake" was quite the ride! I was unfamiliar with "The Legend of the White Snake" prior to reading this, but I really enjoyed the mythology of the story. Emerald and Su were fascinating characters to get to know, both in the present and past. Their complex, toxic, co-dependent relationship was easy to get tangled in. I enjoyed a lot of the side characters, especially Tik. I thought her struggles with gender and sexuality were very relatable and empathetic. The queer metaphors intertwined with "Sister Snake" was exactly my bread and butter. My only nitpick is that I wasn't the biggest fan of how this novel handled the omniscient, multiple point of views. It wasn't that terrible by any means, and given this is an ARC things are of course subject to change. However, I found things a bit hard to follow towards the end with the continuous jumping of perspectives.
