I appreciated the author’s move beyond just attaining a state of mindfulness. Having practiced for about 15 years I found it helpful to have someone ask the questions about what this all means moving forward.
It's a good introductory book but I was expecting a lot more. I like the breadth of topics that were covered and retaining the knowledge of their origins instead of stripping it down to just the practice. For that reason, I'd suggest it to those unfamiliar with meditation or mindfulness.
We've a;ll heard of mindfulness by now, and many of us try to incorporate it into our lives on a daily basis, whether taking a mindful moment when walking, or being mindful on waking or going to sleep.
This book takes you one step further - incorporating mindfulness into your life, and comes up with ideas for everyone in all situations to be mindful.
A useful book.
This is not an easily accessible work, or at least the tone, voice, and language used did not appeal to me. Those interested in more "but then there's this" meditation books may find it worthwhile for them. I couldn't align with the way that mindfulness was cast as lower or like pop culture meditation in comparison to the practices that Holecek would offer -- nor did I get the feeling of a wiser, more experienced person leading me forward as I would with a book by other meditation teachers.
An excellent introduction to the range of ways someone can practice mindfulness and their history, rationale, practical guidance, and possible benefits.
Perhaps this may be a good introduction to the topic for those unfamiliar with it, but as someone that has read extensively on mindfulness and mental training, there was nothing new here.
The purpoposes of this book is to celebrate mindfulness, set out its limitations. And to introduce you to the wonders of the mind. Discusses insight mediation. Opening your heart., outside support for. Meditation. Reverse meditation, nocturnal meditation and the wonders of the mind. Endnotes
