The fourth book in the Lost and Found series and a great addition. The writing is engaging and captivating, making the mystery both entertaining and thought provoking. Luna makes a discovery in a childhood dresser that leads her on a journey to uncover the truth about a friend’s death.
Many thanks to Kensington and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
For those who like romance with their mystery this book might fit the bill. Fourth in the series Lost and Found by Fern Michaels, Luna Bodman learns that a long time friend has died under mysterious circumstances. Trying to learn more has left her with no additional information. Feeling sad and in need of a change of pace, her boss send her on a buying trip for native American crafts for a Christmas display. While there she thinks she sees her missing friend and when she hears his voice, knows that he is not dead but there in the town where she is staying. Little does she know tracking him down may be dangerous.
I have read the first 3 books in this Lost and Found series and liked them, but I'm afraid the characters in this series have lost my attention. Luna and Cullen as brother and sister. Cullen and ChiChi as a couple and Luna and Chris. All are a little too "nice and innocent" in their relationships. A bit unbelievable in this time period.
Proof by Fern Michaels is the fourth book in the Lost and Found series. The series focuses on a brother and sister team (Cullen and Luna). They are quite different in how they think and work, but they always have each other's back. Cullen resources old furniture and makes them into new masterpieces that people will love. Luna is able to feel/read the pieces and discovers their secrets. Often it leads to a problem to be solved, a mystery or even puzzle. Luna takes it from there.
I found the book quite interesting. I loved the romance of Chris and Luna as well as the romance of Cullen and Chi-Chi. The story however really didn’t have a major storyline as much as a group of stories that all seemed to meld together. I think I would like to read the novels before this one to see if there is more to the series. To me, it was certainly not the usual Fern Michaels read. Proof by Fern Michaels was an interesting read that is more character driven.
Book #4 in The Lost and Found series. Fern Michaels is a prolific writer with a huge fan club. Her readers love the consistenet entertainment her books are known for. In this series, the main characters are a brother and sister who own complimentary businesses in an arts and crafts mall. The community and characters that support the mysteries "found" add a touch of spice and fun to the series. I've read all 4 and loved them. While you could easily read each as a stand alone, the character development from the first book forward adds to the overall enjoyment. I recommend these to anyone who loves cozy mysteries.
It took me much longer to get through this book than is normal for me. It was a slow read. It wasn't until 85% through, that it even began to pick up and become interesting. Then, just as quickly as it became interesting, it felt like it also became rushed and the ending crammed into one final page. It took too long to get to the point and heart of the story and then was so rushed, it just fell short. Unfortunately, this is not one I would be quick to recommend to friends. The writing was good, just too much, unnecessary details to get to the meat of the story.
You know it is going to be some sort of mystery crime tale, after all it is by Fern Michaels. But. It is her sense of humor and insight that always get to me. Easy references to current issues with respect to past events conjure up a memory and a smile. Kids riding in the back of a pickup. Never happen in today’s world of regulations and at times overly cautiousness. Just what were we thinking. Different world and in some cases just easier.
PROOF just may be the most complicated work by Fern Michaels. There is a sense that we are brought along on a kind of journey. Somewhat metal and emotional. When Luna has an instinctual series of moments we know to pay attention. But the critical issue is what for. Luna is a creative soul, but it is something in her psyche that is keeping her awake. And Luna is indeed troubled by her dreams, which she is beginning to question as well.
Much is going on in Lunas world. Her relationship with long time fella Chris is heading in a new direction. Chris is now involved with a rather contentious divorce, with custody of his son at the center.
But once again we sense that is not the cause of her unrest. It just may be a subconscious connection to something or someone from her past.
Fern Michaels keeps referencing Lunas relationship with Brendan a friend from her past. They have managed to stay connected for over a decade and all of a sudden Luna can’t reach him. Of course she is aware that Brendan has a life outside of their friendship. He is married. Has a good career. Has always seemed happy and content in their correspondence. She wonders why he isn’t answering her messages, text, etc. Could this be part of her feelings of angst.
The prologue provided a look at Brendan, albeit short and just a glimpse. PROOF is a challenging book to review. Fern Michaels pulled out all the stops and truly flexed her crime, investigator muscles. It would indeed be a crime, no pun intended, to give away any substantial details of this story. There is a stunning group of characters with truly diverse personalities. But they all coalesce into what is an amazing cast in PROOF. Dialog is crisp and ready reference to current and past cultural items provide much humor. No one does character development like Fern Michaels. PROOF is proof of the creative talent of this writer. Fern Michaels is a pseudonym for Mary Kuczkir who says she doesn’t write books, she tells stories. If you even wonder what this writer thinks about current times you needn’t. it all surfaces in her characters dialogs. Truthful, honest appraisal of many issues.
It's a little difficult rating a story when there are certain expectations based on the blurb but then the story turns out differently. This story was primarily about the relationship between Luna and Chris. Then throw in the sudden decision of his ex's plans to move to another city and there are the complications of a custody battle over their son.
There are plenty of interesting characters and sprinkled throughout the story. And the challenges that Chris faces are certainly realistic. However, I was expecting more the plot to involve Luna's college friend Brendan than just her reminiscing about how things were between then in college.
Part of the Lost and Found series following characters of Luna and Cullen Bodman.
Looking for old mementos Luna finds her old friend Brendan from college. This find will lead to mystery and drama for Luna, friends and family.
This was my first book in the series and much of the story was taken up with the characters and interactions in everyday life.
I believe you have to follow the series in order for you to get the best experience.
Thank you NetGalley and (publisher) for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
A quick read about the continuing adventures of Luna and Cullen.
What I liked most about the story were the throw back references like music and tv shows that I grew up in.
There are major developments for both Luna and Cullen in their relationships so I’m interested to see if there is another book in the series.
I love this series from Fern Michaels and this book did not disappoint. When mementos are found in Luna's old dresser she starts having visions but can't figure out why they are of her old friend Brendan. The story goes on for quite a while showing us the lives of other's that work at the Art center. and Luna trying to get her brother to confess his love to the owner of the Namaste Café. All the while she continues to have these visions and not be able to get a hold of her friend. A few stories come to light but then she runs into someone that might be able to help her figure out what is going on. Just enough intrigue, mystery and fun with a great and romantic ending.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This is for Fern Michaels fans-especially those who have been reading the series, which I have not. If you.. like me, are reading it as a standalone, you might feel a bit at sea with the characters but Luna's distress at the disappearance and then possible reappearance of her old friend Brendan is palpable. Less a mystery than a romance, it's not only her story but also that of her brother Cullen and others. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Wasn't for me but I know others will enjoy it.
I did not like this book at all. That being said, I did finish it, but I had serious thoughts multiple times to put it down. First of all, this is straight up romance. But, really corny romance. If there was any suspense/mystery, it was less than 5% of the book and totally predictable. I used to really like this author, I don't know what has happened. These characters are seriously unlikeable. Really, how many people are really that perfect. I suppose there is a nitch for this type of book, but I was not impressed.
Thank you to Net Galley and Kensington Publishing for giving me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Proof by Fern Michaels was somewhat of a disappointment for me. Unlike the other three books by her that I have read, I found this one an absolute chore to get through. I was drawn in by the description of a missing person mystery, and dismayed to find that that storyline took up only a tiny portion of the book.
It is instead bogged down by makeovers and spa visits, melodramatic relationships, moral lectures, and unrelatable and irritating characters. I find myself scanning entire chapters, looking for anything about the missing man the main character purports to be so worried about.
I will have to remember to not follow any more of this tedious series.
I do appreciate receiving an ARC of #Proof from #NetGalley, even though it was disappointing.
I hate to give this 3 outta 5 stars. I really do. I love Fern Michaels. However I have seen a decline in the writing and development of characters and storyline. Maybe less books put out in a year.
I have read several of the others in the series but this wasn’t my favorite. I enjoyed the quirky characters the ending was a bit abrupt for me. I finished it but I have enjoyed the other books in the series more. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
This was a cute story that was more a romance than mystery. Once again, Luna feels something amiss in her world and it concerns one of her old best friends who apparently dropped off the face of the earth. Meanwhile, Cullen is nervous about telling Chi Chi he is in love with her and Chris has decisions ahead of him. That was basically the crux of the whole story that was lighthearted, well-written and furthered the relationships that were forged in the earlier books. It was certainly not the great American novel, but was an easy way to enjoy an afternoon. If you’ve read the first few novels in the series, this is a good continuation. As a stand-alone, it would not make much sense. Thank you to. NetGalley and the publishers for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is the 4th book in the series, and to me, was pointless.
The story just drug on, and I had to force myself to keep going.
If you read the series read it. I think I will stick to the Sisterhood series from now on.
Proof by F. Michaels is the fourth book in her Lost and Found Series. For best reading experience I rcommend to read the books in order.
This slow burn has lots of characters, old and new, a story that gives all the feels, a beautiful telling, 4,5 stars.
I have read Fern Michaels before. Once I requested this book, I thought why not go and read the 3 books before this one.
In doing so, I learned all about Luna, Cullen, Ellie, Chi-Chi and Chris. Don't get me wrong, you get really good character background in each book. I just wanted to see who they developed through the series. So really you can read this as a standalone.
Luna, she was in a funk and didn't know why. She felt like her circle was acting all weird. They thought she was off as well. Cullen being the best big brother. He had her old childhood dresser delivered. He was going to give it a make over for her. She saw that dresser and you thought she was a kid in a candy shop. She was so excited and loved going through all her cherished memories that she stored in the dresser. Well not all of them were happy, some were sad as well. Then it hit her, that she hasn't heard from a college friend. She shoots him an email and she receives no reply. That is unlike him. So she decides to dig a little deeper. She calls another friend and he starts to look and he too hasn't had any contact with him. Luna, gets some disturbing news though. Her friend and his wife have passed away, and there were no other details. You know by now if you have read the other books, Luna gets feelings from objects and people. She sat herself down, and focused in on her friend. She didn't get what she was looking for.
So what does Luna do? She goes and gets a make-over. So much so that she doesn't look like her normal boho self. Which is a good thing, but then again it isn't.
She takes a little business trip and recharges her energy. Out of the blue she thinks she see's her college friend who is supposed to be dead. Me while reading "oh Luna don't get into serious trouble now"
What happens? Luna, being Luna couldn't leave well alone. She does what she does best and snoops. That snooping almost got someone killed. This story was crazy, and the outcome came out great for all parties. I mean Cullen and Chi-Chi are doing great. Ellie is dating again, Chris and Luna are in a great place after that little fiasco.
I laughed hard a few times because of Chi-Chi's brother and his shenanigan's!!
Thank you for the ARC NetGalley and Kensington publishing
