A great nonfiction book for children. Great facts and pictures for young minds to explore how birds function.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Love this great new DK book about birds. There are great pictures and information. More than you can imagine!
After reading this title I went and looked up the equivalent titles for other animals to add to my to be read and to buy wishlist! These "eyewitness" books are such an amazing resource. The pictures are incredible -- so sharp, clear, engaging, and interesting for anyone of any age to look at. I would highly recommend these for any library; I think pre-k through middle school would absolutely scoop these up. In our high school library I like to have books like this as well for students who are emerging bilinguals, struggling readers, or students who are just starting their research. Anyone who loves birds would love this title in particular. It would also make a great gift with some binoculars for bird enthusiasts!
This book is stunning and should probably have a home in most elementary school libraries, if not in each classroom library.
As a retired elementary school teacher and teacher-librarian as well as a parent of non-fiction readers, I have been a huge fan of Eyewitness Books for years. They were the tried and true parts of my classroom library and were bound and rebound until we finally had to admit defeat and hope we could find a copy second hand. When ai mention them to my current students, who are working on their teacher's credentials, eyes light up. “I remember those!”
All that to say I was thrilled to see that some titles are being updated and reissued. The layouts are the way you remembered. The information is well-researched and organized and presented in manageable bites, with lots of beautiful visuals for support. Looking at the feather section, I can imagine students bringing in their finds to compare with the photos in the book. Is it from a wing or a tail? There is so much room for inquiry here, and the book is a great jumping off point for more detailed research. My only quibble is that I wish links or QR codes were included for even more information on the different topics. 4.5 stars!
Put this one up on the table by your window feeder along with your bird guide. Your students will love it.
I was thoroughly impressed by the unique illustrations in ‘Eyewitness Bird.’ Unlike other children’s bird books, it goes beyond mere pointing, offering detailed depictions of birds with annotations that highlight different parts. The variety of illustrations, especially regarding nests and eggs, is remarkable and engaging. This book is perfect for kids to grow with, catering to both visual learners and those eager to delve into the informative text. As an adult, I found myself learning alongside my children, making it a valuable addition to any family library. Highly recommended for young bird enthusiasts!
I love any and all books in the DK Eyewitness series. They are great for young teens and avid readers of non-fiction. The titles cover a gambit of topics. The illustrations are bright, colorful and fit the text beautifully. Bird is one of my favorites. As well as finding out about different orders of birds, take a detailed look at individual feathers and beak shapes, and explore behavior, from fish- and meat-eaters to seed- and plant-eaters. Witness the breathtaking moment when a chick hatches from its egg and watch as the young birds grow in their nest to take their first flight. Discover record-breaking flights and amazing camouflage. Young readers will love the illustrations if someone is reading to them and adults can relate to the book as well. DK does young reader editions also.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and DK Children for my copy of Eyewitness Bird by DK in exchange for an honest review. It published April 16, 2024.
As a homeschool parent, I can absolutely assure you that this book belongs in any library, home, classroom, or traditional for children. Full of beautiful pictures, photography, and incredible information, there truly is something for everyone to learn here. I read through this on a Saturday night and fully enjoyed myself!
This would make an excellent gift for any young bird-lover in your life!
This is the book I should have read before I went on a birding expedition last year ! The illustrations are gorgeous and the information provided is really good
My biggest problem with the book was that penguins ( my fav of all birds ) were pretty much ignored - sorry to say that cost the book a half a ⭐️

Succinct with great photos. I read this with my children and they were engaged and had questions. Really great format.
My young son is currently obsessed with dinosaurs and birds. This book was so much fun to look through with him. It was both educational and engaging. The illustrations and photos are bright and engaging. The text is split up into small chunks, so it is easy to read and understand. I highly recommend this book if you have a kiddo in your life who likes birds!
