Serial Killer Central is well named, however, it is all a little too close to home on this occasion!
Jenna and Dave are settling into family life quite well after having adopted a son. However, a big shock is in store for them, on two different fronts. I can't say what happens without giving away the plot, but it is BIG!
Young women are being targetted and unfortunately it is one of their own who seems to be implicated. Jenna and her team need to do a lot of research and sifting of evidence to get to the bottom of this one.
4.5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.
Just as an aside, I can't believe that Kane and Alton are already at adventure number 22! Amazing.
Love me some Black Rock Falls serial killers and they have them in spades. This time, could that killer be one of their own? As Jenna and team try to keep the body count low, they can’t help but investigate one of their own team. This is a great fast paced read… I cannot wait for the next one…. I mean really can’t wait :)
Jenna, Dave and team are working hard to find yet another killer in Black Rock Falls - serial killer central. But, during this investigation, Dave is kidnapped. As Jenna struggles to cope with his abduction and murder investigations, the stakes are high. Jenna, Wolfe and Styles are working hard trying to locate Dave as Rio and Rowley work on identifying the killer. Nonstop action, intrigue, and frightening scenarios. Excellent story and series. This series is awesome!
Book twenty two in the Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane
Another great read by this author
This is one of my favourite series to read
So if you are looking for a new series this is the one
Thanks NetGalley
I always enjoy the Kane & Alton series and this was no exception. It was quick to get going and although a bit far fetched in places flowed beautifully. It was exciting and tense which had me almost speed reading as I devoured it. This can be read as a stand alone novel but I highly recommend starting from book one and reading the series in order a, because they are all fantastic reads, and b, it’s nice to see the development of the characters and their relationships.
There are two big cases in this book which spreads the department pretty thin. One of their own is in grave danger, can they be saved? Is another team member the prime suspect? Read this brilliant book to find out the answers!
DK Hood hit the ball out of the park with this one, I loved it. A very deserving 5 stars.
I absolutely love this series. I have been reading it for years and feel like I almost know the characters. Their stories never get old and I always find myself waiting on the next one in the series!
This is number 22 in the series. I honestly couldnt put this one down. The writing was phenomenal and I wanted answers. I just kept on reading till I got them. Loved the characters in this one.
Yes again, DK Hood has written a blinder! The stories are fast paced, well written, and totally gripping, and this new title keeps that up.
I was completlely hooked from page 1, and read this in one sitting. Fantastic, bring onthe next one please!
I found this book to be back to the author's other ones keeping you guessing until the end and having many different twists throughout the book. Also had cross-over character and the different characters being part of this story added to the suspense and continued to drive us the readers as to who is committing the crimes, while once again showing Jenna that she is not as safe as she thought she was at their home. This book had it all and then the ending just was another surprise. A must-read.
This is the Author's 22nd book featuring Sherriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane and whist it
can be read as a standalone I would recommend reading a least 1 or 2 of the latest books to set
the characters in place .
When the Sherriff is asked to make a welfare check on a young woman the last thing she expects is
to find her murdered , electrocuted to death ......... who would want to harm this well loved young woman .?
Soon the investigation hits a dead end , no further clues have come to life , that is until another young
woman is found dead , killed the same way - just what is going on ? do they have a serial killer on
the loose ? Someone is preying on women who live alone - who will be next on his list ?
When Jenna reviews CCTV footage she gets a shock , surely the person on the screen cannot be involved ?
It will take all Jenna and David's skill to track down the killer before he strikes again because she herself might just be in his sights .
These books are character driven , fast paced and full of twists and turns before the killer can be found - an entertaining read
I look forward to reading the next in the series
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Hood writes with clarity, atmosphere, drama and passion she pulls you in to the story which sees you invested in the investigation and the plight of the characters.
Another riveting edition to this engrossing series well deserving of its five stars.
Holy cow this is a twisty story I could not put down. I say this every time, but best story so far (until the next one). Jenna & Dave are amazing, and the rest of the gang is just as good. This plot was so unique I couldn’t wait to see how it ended. Loved everything about it! Well done
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
In the labyrinth of crime fiction, it’s a rare delight to stumble upon a book that not only captivates with its plot but also resonates with the reader on a deeper level. “Eyes Tight Shut,” the 22nd installment in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood, is one such gem.
Set against the backdrop of Black Rock Falls, a town that’s no stranger to darkness, the story opens with a chilling scene that sets the tone for the entire narrative. The lifeless body of Dakota Slade, a beloved community member known for her charity work, is found in her home, marking the beginning of a harrowing journey for Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane.
What follows is a masterful blend of suspense and meticulous police work, as the duo delves into the heart of a community cloaked in secrets. The plot thickens with the discovery of another victim, weaving a thread of urgency that pulls the reader through the pages.
Hood’s writing is sharp and evocative, painting a vivid picture of the setting and its inhabitants. The characters are well-crafted, with layers that are peeled back as the story progresses, revealing their complexities and driving the narrative forward. The relationship between Alton and Kane is particularly noteworthy, providing an emotional anchor amidst the swirling chaos of the investigation.
The pacing is relentless, with twists that are both surprising and satisfying. Hood has a knack for balancing the tension of the central mystery with moments of introspection, allowing the reader to catch their breath before plunging back into the fray.
“Eyes Tight Shut” is a testament to Hood’s ability to keep a long-running series feeling fresh and exciting. It’s a standalone triumph that will not only please long-time fans but also welcome newcomers with open arms. The book is a reminder of why we read thrillers: to be transported, challenged, and ultimately, to be entertained by a story well told.
“Eyes Tight Shut” is a must-read for any aficionado of the genre. With each turn of the page, Hood proves that even in a series’ 22nd book, there can still be new ground to uncover and new chills to experience.
*5 Stars*
Copy kindly received via NetGalley for an honest review.
What a great read with a lot of great characters. Kane and Jenna are a great couple in fighting crime and in their personal life. Wolfe is a character, he and Kane are two people I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of. A really good ending to this one. Would recommend.
Fast paced, brutal and unforgiving. This killer is one of the worst I’ve read about, the murders are horrific!
Each death is gut punching. This one takes you into the darkest of humanity it twists your heart and gives you nightmares.
An unforgettable unputdownable thrill ride to the max.
I adore the characters in this series and this one was no exception.
And amazing horror inducing read

It’s like trying to climb the side of an iceberg. I keep slipping down and having to start again.
I felt like a kid in the principal’s office. I’m surprised he didn’t give me detention.
My Review:
This was a tense and prickly read that kept me picking at my cuticles and biting at my lips. I was loathe to put my Kindle down and attend to those pesky daily living requirements such as peopling, sustenance, and sleep, but even when I did, the conundrum of the story took up considerable head space with vivid ruminations. D.K. Hood must be quite a twisted sister to keep coming up with this stuff.
I know I might say this every time, but this might be my favorite yet. There are two story lines and I was invested equally in both. They are both very personal to the team. Down a few members of the team for these cases and the stakes are upped. Women are disappearing and then found dead and the culprit looks like Carter. And he is MIA. And then Kane goes missing and his son is taken. I wasn’t sure which one I was more worried for, but I was on the edge of my seat reading.
The tension and pace are off the charts from the start. The growth of the characters, the relationship amongst the team members, and the story lines keep me coming back. You would think with book 22, the series could be stale, but I did not want to put this one down. I wasn’t able to figure out who was murdering the women even when there weren’t many suspects. I finally just sat back and read and hoped things worked out how I hoped.
And that bombshell at the end. I can’t wait to see how that changes things up going forward. If you like police procedurals and are not reading this series, you need to pick them up.
Oh my!! Black Rock Falls has a new killer in town and this time they’ve gone one step further. They’re making the dating scene that bit more dangerous than the usual sharks that prey on women!
Throw into the mix a suspect looking much like one of the trusted team and you’ve got a difficult case to crack for my favourite sheriff’s department! Do they really think their friend is capable of murdering innocent women??
This 22nd thriller puts the team through the wringer with events. The smell of burnt flesh is not a nice one! I felt so guilty for suspecting one of the team for the these heinous crimes – had Hood really done the unthinkable and planted a murderer in the team that investigates such crimes?
Eyes Shut Tight is an electrifying addition to the Kane and Alton series in so so many ways! Hood has yet again created a psychopath with a novel and shocking killing method and hidden that individual in plain sight. By adding an established character as a potential suspect took the intrigue to another level. Bravo!!!
(4.5)Black Rock Falls is enough to raise the hair on the back of your neck if your are an avid reader of Detectives Kane and Alton series. If you are not, you should treat yourself you have 22 books to enjoy. Eyes Tight Shut had 2 plots running at the same time. Either one one would be a great book, but have both running simultaneously shows the stress and reality of police life. Add in the emotion, the sense of family and its a winner. Eyes Tight Shut has single women being murdered and it appears to be one of their own. When the team is discussing how that could be, and they would have known etc... boy did my mind think of Detective Beth Katz series. Speaking of which Styles and Beth have a part in Eyes Tight Shut. The second plot involves Dave Kane, and boy was that an emotional ride. D.K. Hood provides a police procedural with feels and a HEA and a few twists and surprises along the way. Thank you for Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #EyesTIghtShut #DetectivesKaneandAlton #D.K.Hood #Bookouture #NetGalley

Eyes Tight Shut by D.K. Hood
"Eyes Tight Shut," the 22nd book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood, is a gripping and unpredictable thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat.
When Dakota Slade is found dead in her home, Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane are called to investigate. The discovery of two small scorch marks on Dakota's neck reveals she was electrocuted, setting off a chilling search for a twisted killer targeting women who live alone.
The plot thickens as another victim is found with the same burn marks, leading Jenna and Kane on a desperate hunt for the murderer. The tension escalates when Jenna uncovers evidence pointing to someone she thought she could trust. This revelation adds a personal and emotional twist to the case, making it even more intense.
D.K. Hood masterfully weaves suspense and intrigue, creating a story that is hard to put down. Fans of the series will find "Eyes Tight Shut" a compelling addition, and new readers will be drawn into the dark and thrilling world of Black Rock Falls.
