A serial killer is walking the streets of Black Rock Falls again. This one is targeting single women and has an uncanny resemblance to Tyler Carter the FBI agent who often assists Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane on their cases. With no way to contact Carter while he's on vacation the team have no choice but to keep him on the suspect list along with two other residents. Just as the investigation is getting started Kane and his son Tauri are kidnapped by members of a cartel that Kane had helped the FBI take down during an undercover operation - somehow the cartel have managed to find his real identity.
Really enjoyed this latest instalment in the Kane & Alton series - I've read all of them and always look forward to the next one.
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Jenna is called out to a murder scene. Dakota Slade did not turn up for work, and the Sheriff was alerted. She was electrocuted with a modified stun gun.
Then an identical murder occurs, and it is found that the same man was seen talking to both women. The description of the man who also appears on CCTV appears to be a close friend of Jenna and Kane's.
In the midst of the investigation, Kane goes out for a ride on his Harley and disappears.
There is never a dull moment in the Kane and Alton series!!
Fast paced and action packed, and a dedicated and close team piece together the puzzle and solve the cases.
Interspersed with their personal worries, the books are ultra interesting and make the characters more real.
I recommend this book, and indeed the whole series to those who like a decent police procedural.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read the 22nd book in the series.
"Eyes Tight Shut" is a riveting addition to D.K Hood's Detectives Kane and Alton series, delivering a pulse-pounding thriller filled with suspense and unexpected twists.
The story plunges readers into a chilling mystery as Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane investigate the brutal murder of Dakota Slade. The tension escalates as they uncover a pattern of killings targeting women who live alone, each victim bearing the same telltale burn marks on their necks. Hood masterfully crafts a narrative that keeps readers guessing, with red herrings and revelations that heighten the suspense with every turn of the page.
What sets this book apart is its focus on character dynamics and emotional depth. Sheriff Jenna Alton's determination to catch the killer while grappling with personal conflicts adds layers of complexity to the story, making her a relatable and compelling protagonist. Deputy David Kane's unwavering support and investigative skills complement Jenna's character, creating a dynamic duo that readers root for throughout the book.
The pacing is relentless, drawing readers into a web of deceit and danger that culminates in a gripping finale. The ending leaves long-term fans thrilled and eager for the next installment, showcasing Hood's ability to keep the series fresh and engaging with each new release.
While "Eyes Tight Shut" earns a solid 4.5 stars for its gripping plot, well-developed characters, and thrilling conclusion, it's the promise of more excitement to come that leaves readers buzzing with anticipation for the next book in the series. D.K Hood delivers another must-read instalment that will keep fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.
Thanks to Ms Hood, the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book almost gave me a heart attack. I definitely held my breath during parts and you'll know where when you read it, especially if you're already a fan. Loved this one!
When Dave's "favor" has major blowback will he lose his life, or that of Tauri or Jenna? Read to see.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Great book; five stars! Lots of suspense and intrigue as Sheriff Jenna and her deputies follow the trail of bodies left behind and feverishly try to unravel the clues to find the killer. This is a bone-chilling, addictive series that will not disappoint a crime thriller enthusiast!
Fabulous edition to this series. Jenna and Dave are fighting on two fronts, one involving their family and one where the perpetrator is targeting single women. Great team of characters old and new.
Book 22 in the series and it may be one of my favourites yet! Not just because one of the characters has my name… thanks so much DK Hood for using my name! I just loved the frantic pace this story moved at. There was something happening all the time and I was turning pages like a mad woman 😅😅
I always enjoy a trip back to Serial Killer Central, Black Rock Falls. We had 2 big storylines happening in this one, and the team had to give it all they had. One of their own is in grave danger and another one is a suspect!! Oh my word.. it was fantastic. I had to keep reading and find out what was going to happen. So intense and shocking.
Thanks so much to Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to read. Publishes on May 21st and another cracker of a read.
It is dangerous for young women living in Black Rock Falls. They are found murdered by a powerful stun gun. A side story has a main character in the book kidnapped. There is plenty of suspense a great cast of characters and a good plot. It will keep you turning the pages. The book is part of a series but could be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Thus series is one I am always looking forward to and that is still going strong.
It's a bit double for me. On the one hand, I want a new book very much because I am utterly captivated by the stories, but on the other hand I am always a bit afraid too. Afraid something is going to happen to either Jenna or Dave which might be the ending of the series. I sincerely hope the author has a lot of inspiration to keep them going for a very, very long time.
As strange as it may seem, the characters have a special place in my heart. If I have to pick a favorite one, it has to be Dave. He is a big, strong fighting machine, but with a big heart beating inside.
So yes, once again I was sitting on the edge of my seat and praying to keep the recurring characters safe.
At the end of the book it's time to celebrate Thanksgiving and there seems to be a lot to be grateful for...
Needless to add I had my eyes wide open, because I did not want to miss the tiniest detail. 5 stars
Thank you
A big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series, but reads well as a stand alone. It could probably be confusing as there are a lot of names to remember and learn. I enjoyed this book. A little convoluted and the side story is traumatic. I like all the recurring characters. This one had a very nice ending. 4 stars
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this awesome book
i have so been looking forward to this book for a couple of months...well any book by dk hood is special but none more so than this one as i am a character in it...whoop whoop
but apart from that you know that you are going to have a brilliant read and you are going to be exhausted reading it because what this author does to its characters... she shows no mercy to them and they are put through some horrendous stuff at times and this book you feel the tension she puts them through... poor dave and jenna and carter
when Dakota Slade fails to turn up for work a welfare check is sent out and on discovering her body the team gather round to find any clues and try to find any suspects....
but this is no ordinary crime and they are about to pit their wits against possibly one of their own
its a tense time all round for everyone as another body turns up .....
oh my goodness me this one is a tense one and yet again dk hood made me cry at the ending....
cant wait for the next book in the fabulous series... i need to go a lie down now...
Thanks to NetGalley and the punisher for my copy of this book.
When a local girl is found dead, by way of a stun gun sheriff Jenna Alton, and her husband deputy Dave Kane and the team are called into investigate. In time more victims are found and the evidence points to FBI agent Ty Carter being the murderer.
Oh my goodness! My heart was racing and I had goosebumps within the first few chapters of this book. The side storyline with Kane seemed to be the beginning of the end! And all signs pointing to Carter made me not want to read on. (But equally desperate to read on!).
I can’t believe this is book 22 in the series. I’m completely invested in these characters-especially after that cliffhanger ending (that can I just say I’ve been waiting on that one for a while!). Just when I think nothing else can happen in Black Rock Falls, D.K Hood pulls it out the bag and creates another absolutely smashed it story.
Fast pace, ref herrings, amazing relationships, doubt, mistrust. This had it all. I liked how this story also started to involve Piper within the team.
An amazing, fantastic, engaging book. I’ve devoured it over the course of a day and I’m already excited for book 23! Loved it!!
