This was one of the first FF books that I listened to many years ago. I loved it then and I love it just as much with this new recording. The new narrators do an excellent job, although I think only having 1 narrator would have worked better. Each narrator does a good job with providing distinct voices for each character, so in my opinion, either of them could have narrated the entire story. Regardless, it is a wonderful listen and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to hear a sweet story of two best friends that finally learn that they want to be more than friends.
Cute story with a cute love interest.
It was just lacking a little. Nice short audio but the story was a little boring at some parts wasn't keeping my full attention. I like a story to make me cry or fall in love with a character/characters i never really did but if you want a cute and quick read/audio try this one.
Thank you
Netgalley and Kristen Zimmer for letting me listen to this ARC audio I loved the experience.
This was a sweet story with good build up of the two characters love story. Their declaration was a little quick for me when it did happen but I was happy for them. The audio reader did a good job differentiating!
This is a classic friends to lovers trope. I found the storyline predictable and easy to follow. The characters were likable, but at times I was hoping to be more emotionally connected, given their deep friendship prior to becoming interested in something more. I think in many ways this is a good book for those not wanting anything super heavy but also something that has enough substance to keep you entertained. If you’re looking for a LGBTQ+ love story that has some spice but is not over done then this may be perfect for you.
I really enjoyed this. A story of courage above all things. The courage to be who you are regardless of what the world wants.
Are heterosexual YA novels rated 17 plus for similar content? (That’s a genuine question, I don’t remember noticing in the past) i thought the sexual references were extremely mild, cute and sweet.
I thought the girls were really cute, I initially loved their friendship, they reminded me so much of my own girls., I laughed out loud often, I cringed for them and felt their pain when they were facing tough times. I loved the fact that they’d always been just out of grasp of one another without even realising. They faced some tough topics and situations but I’m glad that the author chose for them to see it through. Really beautiful ending!
I think this book may have been edited to meet the times, judging by the other reviews? I noted a few red flags in the other reviews, that I definitely didn’t notice in the book - I am of course happy to be corrected.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook in return for an honest review.
PS If you own the cover art, get in touch with the publisher. They’re looking for you 😊 PPS the cover art is what made me stop and read the synopsis for this title.
The Gravity Between Us is a romance novel about two childhood friends who realize they feel more than friendship for each other. The book is good, but nothing exceptional. My main problem with it was the speed at which everything happened. Payton tells Kendall that she is a lesbian, and all of a sudden Kendall realizes she has romantic feelings for Payton as well. It was too fast and it felt forced. A slower pace would have greatly improved my enjoyment of the book because it would feel more natural. I couldn't feel a true connection to either Peyton or Kendall which made me a little impatient with some of their behaviors. The narration is okay, Kendall's voice sounded better than Peyton's. Overall, it is a book that young people discovering and exploring their sexuality would identify with and find helpful, but it wasn't for me and I wouldn't read it again.
The was a delightfully sweet sapphic romance about two friends finding love for themselves and each other. I will absolutely read more by this author. The audio narrators and production on this was excellent and helped bring the story to life. 10 out of 10 recommend.
Okay, so I love me a good LGBTQIA+ romance but, this one....no. Unfortunately, I just thought it was just too cliche. Payton and Kendall are best friends, Payton has been in love with her. Somehow hasn’t told Kendall all these years that she is gay. Tells her when they are both over 18 and then Kendall thinks she is a lesbian as well. They eventually get together and become a long term couple. Don’t get me wrong, its very sweet that they worked out and nobody got hurt. It just wasn’t an exciting read for me. I just wish there was a little more to it :)
I have mixed feelings about this book. It captures the tumultuous love story of two childhood friends, Payton and Kendall, dealing with the pressures of fame, friendship and the depths of unspoken love.
As my first sapphic romance novel, I think it's a beautiful story of young love, embracing one's true self and coming out. It's an easy read and I just wish the story had a bit more complex plot.
I'm grateful to @netgalley for the audio ARC.
This is how you write a romance and it’s a big plus that it’s an LGBTQ+ couple, more of these romances need to be written and show that they really can have it all. The ups and downs are so true to what others face even stars.
my main problem is that, there’s a LOT of conversations and dialogues which gave no space for characters’ development, as a result the story felt flat
I couldn’t stand kendall and her internal monologue so I struggled to ruth for their couple
however the audiobook’s narrators were good
thank you netgalley for the copy
Unfortunately, this one just did not age well.
The blatant biphobia left a bad taste in my mouth and the use of the R slur left an even worse one.
Was not enjoyable for me. The narrator trying to sound masculine was a turn off. The writing style was very immature almost. It made it incredibly difficult to get through.
Unfortunately the writing here didn't work for me. I think this is an important novel for people discovering themselves and as a queer person myself, this would have really benefited me in my teen years.
I listened to the audiobook arc and want to give this 5 stars because of how much I loved the story. I was disappointed with one of the audiobook narrators, but was able to adjust and don’t want to penalize the author, so I am keeping the stars based on my enjoyment of the story.
The characters were amazing and the author did a great job with portraying the emotional issues that created angst. Kendall Bettencourt had been an established screen star since she was a child. Her best friend since childhood was Payton Taylor. Kendall was straight, but it wasn’t until age 19 that Payton finally blurted out that she was a lesbian. That’s when the story really took off because of how the reality of life complicated things. There was Kendall’s angst, always loving her best friend but then questioning and wondering about herself and her own sexuality. Payton knew she loved Kendall but had to keep her feelings private, believing that Kendall was straight, thus stifling her hidden desires.
When love became bigger than both of them, threats to her career became a realistic scenario. This was dealt with very brilliantly by the author.
Now I want to disclose my disappointment with one of the audiobook narrators. The story toggled back and forth between chapters, each being the POV of the two main characters. The narrator for Kendall’s voice was wonderful, but the narrator for Payton was off putting. Her voice would suddenly become higher pitched and sounded more like a much older whiny mother-figure that just didn’t fit. I feel that the audiobook would have been better with just one narrator because both characters spoke in each chapter and there were voice fluctuations that made it confusing, trying to decipher who was speaking, or was telling what someone else said. It complicated the listening experience and was unnecessary.
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
First thing’s first: thank you Netgalley for the ALC of this book!
The Gravity Between Us was a sapphic romance about childhood best friends falling in love as adults. Kendall is an up and coming Hollywood star and Payton is her childhood best friend and musical prodigy. Kendal moves Payton out to LA for a music school and there’s a lot of internal yearning on both sides until they finally get together. This book was fine but tbh both FMCs were kind of annoying. I really hate a plot line that only exists because the main characters won’t just talk to each other. This book was incredibly predictable and not in a fun-kicking-my-feet kind of way. In a oh-my-god-if-I-roll-my-eyes-again-I’m-going-to-teleport-into-another-dimension kind of way. I can see why some folks would love this, but it was not for me. I didn’t hate it, but I certainly didn’t love it. It was longer than it had to be and felt like it was queer romance written by a straight person.

(3.25 stars rounded down to 3) The Gravity Between Us is a new adult novel that centers around Kendall Bettencourt, Hollywood’s newest up and coming star, and her long time best friend, Payton Taylor. As Kendall’s career skyrockets, she dreams of stability and normalcy, constantly leaning on Payton to ground her amidst the chaos of fame. When Kendall asks Payton to move out to California to emotionally support and help her, as well as give Payton the opportunity to pursue her dreams of working on movie scores, Payton is excited but also nervous, seeing as she secretly loves Kendall more than just a friend. With the pressure of celebrity life constantly waiting around every corner, Kendall and Payton grapple with the blurred lines between friendship and love. This emotional story explores many touching themes including the essence of true friendship, the power of love, and the courage it takes to live your authentic life when you are surrounded by gossip and fame. Will Kendall and Payton be able to navigate the fine line where friendship ends and love begins amidst the flashing lights and judging stares of Hollywood?
Overall, I definitely enjoyed this book. As individuals, I really liked Kendall and Payton’s characters. It was very easy to root for them from the beginning and it was sweet to see how their platonic relationship evolved as their romantic relationship developed. While not the most original storyline and fairly predictable, it is a classic tale of fearing what it means to be your true self in the eyes of Hollywood and how much you are willing to let others see the real you for the sake of love. One aspect that I did struggle with was their apparent ages. The book identifies Payton and Kendall as eighteen/nineteen years old and yet the way they talk and their actions, to me, most definitely do not seem like teenagers. But, it was an easy mental fix because I just told myself they were in their mid-twenties and I was able to get past it. Additionally, since I am reviewing the audiobook, I did struggle with the narrator for Payton’s chapters. Personally, I did not feel like her voice matched Payton’s personality and I found myself not enjoying those chapters as much because of it. I think I would have enjoyed the audiobook much more if the narrators had switched characters, as I feel that Payton’s narrator would have been better suited for Kendall’s personality and vice versa, or if the narrator for Kendall’s character just read the whole book. In the end, this was a sweet novel that I would recommend if you want to read a story about friendship, love, and finding oneself against the backdrop of Hollywood glitz and glamour.
Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an electronic ARC of The Gravity Between Us in return for my honest review.
This was cute. Angsty, friends to lovers and first love sapphic sweetness.
But the drama of some of it was just — uncomfortable and a bit over the top for me. I liked it, but I didn’t love it.
Kendall’s dad is a G though.
I listened to the original audiobook and found I liked these narrators much more. The story still drew me in and kept me listening.
A YA story of two 19 year old best friends since childhood, Kendall and Payton. Kendall now lives in LA and is pursuing her acting career while Payton is still living with her mom in their hometown . While visiting home, Kendall invites Payton to join her in LA and attend music school. Payton is Kendall’s grounding and support, always there for her. Unbeknownst to her, Payton has been in love with her for years. She don’t even know Payton was gay until her trip home.
As they begin living together in LA, Kendall starts questioning her sexuality as she finds herself having feelings beyond friendship for Payton. The author gives us insight into the inner turmoil Kendall is going through, including how her career would be impacted if she allowed herself to explore her sexuality or came out. Payton is wrestling with keeping her feelings to herself.
Will they give into their mutual attraction and take the risk? Will their friendship survive if it doesn’t work out?
I enjoyed the audiobook and look forward to more from Kristen Zimmer.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
