I read Books 1 & 2 for this ARC and I am glad I did. I would have missed so much backstory and I am not sure this book would have made the impact it did without that information. Man, some of the peeps in the book are fucked up, but so is most of humanity. That is the point of the book, no? I didn't see that last betraying twist coming, and I love that!
This was my 1st foray into Robert Bailey's books but will definitely not be my last! I hope there are more books in this series coming b/c I am totally here for that!
This is my first Jason Rich book and it was exciting. There is a plethora of complex characters, including Jason, our hero, emotions, politics and intrigue that runs through this small town bogged down by the drug trade.
Jason is fighting demons and is drowning in alcohol, so when he is accused of murdering Tyson Cade the drug kingpin, he does not remember. With the help of Shay, he builds the narrative to prove that he is not the killer.
The narrator of this book was pretty good and kept the story flowing.
I'm a huge Robert Bailey fan and I really like this Jason Rich series. We've gotten to know the good, bad, and great parts of Jason Rich's family. In this installment, Jason may have murdered the drug kingpin, Tyson Cade. Well, did he or not? He's not sure! All of Sand Mountain is in an uproar over finding the new leader of the meth trade of the area. A Meth Mountain story at it's best!

I was excited to continue the Jason Rich series, especially after that event at the end of Rich Waters. The books are available in Kindle Unlimited including audio. I would read the series in order for both the character developments and the changing issues in the small Alabama community.
Jason Rich is a lawyer. His father wanted him to be a lawyer and join his practice. Instead, he set up his own practice in personal injury and has been extremely successful. When the series begins, his father has recently died. Jason has been in rehab for alcohol for the past 90 days. In the first book, his sister, Jana, was charged with murder of her husband. Jason defends her successfully, his first foray into criminal defense. In the next book, the meth king blackmails him into another murder defense.
Jason starts Rich Justice in a rough place. He has been suspended as a lawyer. He's been on a alcoholic binge for a couple weeks. His closest friends are the veteran brothers who run the shooting range and are his neighbors. Then he is arrested for the murder of Tyson Cade.
The circumstantial evidence is strong but he didn't do it. How he navigates the investigation and trial plus several murder attempts on his life and his support team is well written. The pacing is quick and it's exciting trying to figure out who really did murder Cade. There is also the hunt for Mattie Dean, who is suspected of other murders, including a police officer. Mattie could also be the one who murdered Cade so he could take his place as head of the meth empire.
The growth of the characters, the complexities of the investigation and criminal trial, and the attacks were all excellent. I highly recommend this thrilling book and the series.
Narration:
This narrator has become the voice of the series to me. I enjoyed his performance with distinct voices for the characters and accents which seemed appropriate. His portrayal of Jason added some humor to the suspenseful story being told. I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.
Great book, fast paced. This book had lots of characters and different angles as you went along but was easy to follow. I liked that it did not get bogged down in the history of the characters and it revealed what needed to be reveled as it went along, without being over detailed. Nice little twist at the end that even if hadn’t happened the book still worked. Nicely done.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the audio book in exchange for an honest review!
This was an action packed book with an ending that was unexpected. I read and loved the first book in this series, and although I haven't read the 2nd one, I didn't feel like I was really missing any information by just jumping into the 3rd. There are some things that might be considered spoilers for the 2nd book though, so keep that in mind if you're thinking of skipping or reading out of order.
I live in the Huntsville area and it is really cool to read a book that mentions places I've been and roads o travel on a daily basis. I realize stuff like that probably happens often for those that live in a big city, but Huntsville and the surrounding cities don't get mentioned often. Lake Guntersville, Sand Mountain, and even meth mountain are are familiar to everyone in this area. One can only assume that the drug trade is run very similar to how it is described in this book, and that was another point that made the story so interesting in my opinion. I also really like how the trial played out and all the hints at political corruption. I recommend this book to anyone that likes a legal thriller but especially those that live in or are familiar with North Alabama!
This is my first exposure to this author and it definitely will not be my last! This book is a real page turner. A wonderfully crafted action-packed story with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat right to the last page.
In the same fashion as Greg Iles and John Grisham, Bailey has provided us with a well thought out plot and wonderfully developed characters that you will love, or otherwise love to hate, that make this a riveting read. This is a well-written, suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat thriller that will leave you breathless at times in anticipation of the next twist in the plot. Don’t start reading this book if you are not prepared to stay up all night. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Brilliance Audio who provided me with a copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Rich Justice by Robert Bailey and narrated by Joe Knezevich is #3 in the Jason Rich series (I have not previously heard/ read any of the other books). Jason Rich is a high flying attorney, faces on billboards, everything going his way. That is, until he is blamed for a murder he did not commit and his life spirals out of all control.
Rich's nemesis Tyson Cade is unalived and Rich needs help to clear his name, however, could there be anything worse than having to ask your despised professional rival for help? However, things get even more complicated when Cade's people decide to seek revenge and their target is also Jason Rich.
In all honesty, the beginning of the audiobook was not quite my jam in respect of character building narrative. However, after the first chapter, the storyline picked up and I got into the flow. The narration was very well done, dynamic and atmospheric.
The writing style was compelling and kept me listening. The story was well structured and gripping, the storylines complementing each other, twisting and writhing this way and that. I really enjoyed it but certainly need to mark it for a re-read. It does work as a standalone, but would benefit from the back stories from the first two books
Thank you to Netgalley, Brilliance Publishing, Brilliance Audio, the author Robert Bailey and narrator by Joe Knezevich for this ALC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own
Jason Rich #3
Rich Justice
Robert Bailey
This is the third book in this series; I have not read the previous books; however, this book stands well alone.
This is the story of Jason Rich, a very wealthy lawyer whose license has been suspended. Jason is a good lawyer, who is well known for his flashy billboards and glamourous style. He has lost almost everyone he cares for.
The Sand Hills are home to a large meth ring. Tyson Cade is the leader. His co-Horts call him King, until the fateful day someone shoots him. Jason is framed for the murder; he turns to Shay Lankford for assistance in the courtroom. Shay is the former DA.
When Matty Dean takes over the meth ring he declares war on Jason and all that are close to him. On numerous occasions he attempts to have Jason murdered. All is not as it should be on Sand Hill and Jason may not get a fair trial. Satch, Chuck and Micky, the Tonidandel brothers, are determined to keep Jason safe. Matty is watching for an opportunity to take them all out.
There are several outstanding characters in this book, not all of them are upstanding citizens but each one plays a pivotal role: Hattie, Wish, Dooby, Shay, Matty, Chuck, Mickey, and Satch. The Colonel is my favorite character. This tale fits in the genre of Legal Thriller. This is not a quick read; the plot is complex and contains twists and turns. I couldn’t get enough of this tale even at over 500 pages.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book for review purposes.
Be sure to read [book:Rich Blood|58920609] and [book:Rich Waters|61373584] before picking this one up.
Jason Rich has found himself in trouble- again. His law license is suspended and while he is drunkenly wallowing, drug lord Tyson Cade is murdered. And the last thing he says is Jason Rich's name. Jason is subsequently arrested for Tyson's murder. Meanwhile, the meth empire is taken over by Matty Dean- who is determined to avenge Tyson's death. Chaos ensues.
I really liked this installment of the Jason Rich series. Some parts felt like it was dragging on (I mean, this is basically the third book where the main plot is Jason taking on the local drug cartel). But towards the end, it got moving. A few twists thrown in- one of which made me very sad.
I do recommend this series. They are great legal thrillers. I am leaving for a road trip in the morning and we will be going through Alabama. I wish we had time to stop at some of the locations mentioned in this series- I feel like I know the area, lol.
Joe Knezevich narrates all three books in the series. I've really enjoyed his narration. Though I feel like it was kind of breathy during this one- especially at the beginning (I may have gotten used to it or it may have improved- I cannot say for certain.) You could hear him taking large breaths all the time. Just something I noticed.
I received an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review. The blurb intrigued me enough that I agreed to review and purchased the first two books. I was not disappointed!
Great audio book! I love this series so much. Narration was fantastic. Thanks for the opportunity read and review this ARC.
Book three in the Jason Rich series and it did not disappoint. Starting right where Rich Waters ended the reader is tossed right into action.
Jason has fallen off the wagon, has his law license suspended and oh yeah accused of murdering the local meth dealer and that’s just the first chapter.
Robert Bailey does a superb job at setting the scene. The reader is transported to small town Alabama with plenty of local flavor. His characters are believable and storylines interesting.
This is an action packed, small town legal thriller. Fans of John Grisham will love this entire series. Bring on book 4.
4-4.5
I always love a good legal thriller and Robert Bailey sure delivered! Lawyer, Jason Rich, is charged with murder (that he’s pretty sure he didn’t commit) and he needs to clear his name, before he gets sentenced to life in prison. Who could have been involved in the murder and how far will a drug cartel go to avenge the death of their leader?
This is a book full of interesting characters and a complex storyline. I didn’t read the two previous books in this series and was fine reading it as a stand alone.
The narrator of this audiobook was great and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to
The entire book in one day!
A big thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Brilliance Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
