Book 4 of the Garret Kohl series is a total hit for me! Fast action, often that will keep you guessing on what will happen next. Garret is trying to find Asadi's brother with the help of his friend who is with the CIA.

Cold Trail is an explosive and action packed book, and being that its the 4th in the series, I do encourage you to read them in order so that it makes it easier to track whats going on and how each character fits into the story!

This is 4th in the gripping thriller series that began with Down Range. It stars DEA Special Agent (and former Green Beret) Garrett Kohl.

While serving in Afghanistan, Garrett rescued and later adopted young Asadi Saleem, who now lives with him and his cantankerous father Butch at their ranch in the High Plains of northwest Texas.

As the episode opens, workers are injured in a natural gas plant explosion near the ranch, and a wartime buddy of Garrett's is involved with an ecoterrorism group.

Meanwhile Asadi gets into serious trouble trying to help his friend Savannah, and then survive a perilous snowstorm.

As always, the story switches plot threads between chapters, all filled with fast paced action that accelerates to an explosive ending that not all survive.

This is book four in the Garrett Kohl series. Garrett is a DEA agent who is now on leave. When an explosion at a pipeline near his land occurs, Garrett decides to investigate. Was it an accident or was something more sinister involved?

This book is filled with action page after page! It’s an exciting thriller that kept my interest throughout. You definitely do not get bored reading Cold Trail! Between a rescue mission in Afghanistan, shootouts, and people and horses lost in a blizzard, I found myself engrossed in the story and wondering what would happen next.

I genuinely like Garrett and his son, Asadi. Garrett’s dad, Butch, is funny and made me laugh out loud more than once.

If you like thrillers that are action-packed and intriguing, you will love Cold Trail!

Another fun fast paced read by Taylor Moore. Cold Trail follows Garret Kohl and his crew through different stories that tie together. Book four adds new characters and continues to develop the old characters from previous books. You can read this as a standalone and understand it.

Highly recommend this book and look forward to more in the series. It is one you wont want to put down.

Taylor Moore is one of my favorite crime thriller and action adventure authors. Action and suspense combine into an intensity that keeps readers engaged as readers find new depths in the reoccurring characters in this series. In Cold Trail , the fourth intense novel in the Garrett Kohl series, Garrett is on leave from the Drug Enforcement Administration. He’s working to ensure his family has a secure future. This includes his girlfriend Lacey Capshaw, his adopted son, and his father. An alliance has been made to form his new oil and gas exploration company, Savage Exploration. His estranged sister, Grace, shows up with a lucrative idea, but its success is at risk when there’s an explosion at a nearby ranch. Was it an accident or sabotage? Meanwhile a secondary plot line involves the CIA in Afghanistan.

Garrett is a DEA special agent, former Green Beret, ex-CIA intelligence officer and occasional consultant for the Department of Defense. He’s good at finding people who don’t want to be found and hates confrontations that involve feelings. He’s independent, proud, and self-reliant. He also loves his family and wants to ensure they have a safe and secure future. He is someone that you would want to back you up if you needed help. Several characters from previous novels show up in this novel as secondary and tertiary characters.

Diverse characterization and exciting scenes helped pull this reader into the conflicts in the novel. The world building was fantastic. Whether it was a blizzard in the Texas Panhandle or drama in rural Afghanistan, there was a strong sense of place and a feeling that I was transported and living the events alongside the characters.

Engrossing writing, as well as an excellent, dynamic plot will keep readers engaged. The story stays at a high level of intensity throughout most of the novel. It takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster ride that requires them to quickly turn the page to find out what happens next. I also liked how the author brought the two tense story-lines together. The author also incorporated real-world issues into the story arc that added depth to it. Danger, assaults, explosions, love, family, and friendship are woven into the story line.

Overall, this was a high-octane and intense novel with suspense and action that kept me engaged throughout. If you enjoy crime thrillers, then I recommend that you check out this one. I am looking forward to finding out what happens next in this series. This series is best read in order as there are spoilers in the later books in the series.

William Morrow and Taylor Moore provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. The publication date is currently set for September 17, 2024. This review was originally posted at Mystery and Suspense Magazine.

I've been following Taylor Moore's Garrett Kohl adventures since book 1. That said, i feel it's important to know your background before jumping into the 4th installment.
Cold Trail picks up right after Garrett has made his deal with the devil to keep the family farm from folding. Kohl farm has partnered with Garrett's nemesis to form Savage Exploration, a new energy venture.
Life is slowly getting better for the Kohls. Garrett's adopted son Asadi is learning how to be a cowboy. Girlfriend Lacey is ready to settle down with her man. Grumpy dad is still grumpy.
Then Garrett's long lost sister Grace makes her prodigal return. Grace has greedy intentions involving a pipeline to the Texas coast.
An explosion at a nearby natural gas plant gets everyone's attention. One worker dies, another is badly hurt.
Then come the protesters. Garrett's old war buddy Kai leads the pack.
Garrett thinks the explosion was planned. Then another explosion hits closer to home. A conspiracy is in the works.
Cold Trail splits into three separate stories. Asadi attempts to survive a raging snowstorm while rescuing horses. Asadi's estranged brother fights for his life in Afghanistan with a tough CIA agent. Plus Garrett and Kai battle a phantom Frenchman set on leveling the playing field.
Enjoy thrice the thrill with Garrett Kohl #4. The tension is relentless, the stakes never higher, and the characters are as real as a Texas blizzard.
