Rain seems determined to drown the summer on Cape Cod. Mac is still seeing fairly good business at her bicycle shop. One morning she helps the manager at the Rusty Anchor and finds a dead man.
Mac has a great deal to balance with her shop, her recent marriage, family events and a murder investigation. Her friends seem to be pulling away rather than together as in past books.
I enjoyed visiting Cape Cod and finding the culprit along with Mac.
Murder at the Rusty Anchor is a well rounded story that challenges your little gray cells while offering entertainment and a feeling of comfort.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Publishing for the opportunity to read this book.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Maddie Day for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Murder at the Rusty Anchor coming out June 25, 2024. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I love this series! It always offers a lot of cozy drama. I love the east coast vibes and Cozy Capers. Cape Cod is such a fascinating setting. I thought it was a little sudden to have the murdered victim at the beginning. It’s like we didn’t really know him, but it was interesting he wasn’t a likable person. I think this book brought a lot of growth for Mac. She’s settling into married life and wants to have a baby. I loved it all. I’m excited to read more books in the series.
I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys cozy east coast mysteries!
When you pick up a cozy by Maddie Day you know your in for an excellent read! This one is another example of her writing excellence. When high school teacher Bruce Byrne is found dead behind the bar at the Rusty Anchor Pub, the list of suspects is long. Mac, Flo and the Cozy Capers Book Group start trying to unravel the clues that lead to the killer. Lots of red herrings, great story plot, and excellent characters. Thanks #Netgalley and #Kensington for the eARC in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are mine.
Unfortunately, I just didn’t love this one. This cozy was the fifth in a series, so I was hopeful that it would contain some pretty well established characters. But it was just superficial. There wasn’t any depth to most of the characters, the story was flighty, and there was never really any evidence or information that helped to find the killer. There was a lot of gossip, that led to the killer getting nervous and basically confessing, but if that hadn’t happened I think this murder still might be unsolved. Not my favorite. 2⭐️
Murder at the Rusty Anchor is the next installment of the Cozy Capers Book Group Mystery series, which continues to follow Mac and her book group as they attempt to solve another unexpected murder in their charming Cape Cod town. Unfortunately, the murder victim is a well-known (and absolutely not popular) local high-school English teacher. Everyone in town seems to have had him as a teacher and everyone seems to have their own reasons for hating him. When one of Mac's book club members becomes a prime suspect, Mac finds herself back in her amateur detective position.
So far, Murder at the Rusty Anchor is actually my favorite of the series. I really enjoyed the mystery and thought the character development was excellent. I absolutely love Mac and Belle, and Mac's family is adorable. The series has everything one would want in a cozy series: a charming (Hallmark-movie) setting, quirky characters, and intriguing mysteries. Again, this was absolutely my favorite book so far. I can't wait to continue to follow Mac and her friends in their next adventures! Also, the recipes at the end all sound delicious. I can't wait to make the chicken salad!
A perfect day to read the 6th in Maddie Day's Cozy Capers Mystery series, Murder at the Rusty Anchor. Mac is stealing away from the bike shop one stormy morning when she is confronted by a friend and fellow business associate with a big problem---in the form of a stiff body. Before she can blink, Mac is sucked into the investigation and is hot on the trail to unmask a killer.
I enjoy my visits to Cape Cod to catch up on the happenings with Mac and her new hubby, the Cozy Crew Book Group, and the adorable antics of Mac's African Grey parrot, Belle. Belle is having online time with another parrot ---the result is hilarious! Something is up with Tim; more than just the frustrated attempt to conceive, and the CC book group is coming together for one of their own. The satisfying ending was a great conclusion to this visit.
I would recommend this book and the entire series to others who enjoy heartfelt cozy mystery with bonus recipes. Thank you to #NetGalley and #KensingtonPublishing #KensingtonCozies for the Advance E-copy of this title to read in consideration of review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Bruce Byrne taught at the local high school for many years but he was not beloved because he was a nasty man. And now he's been murdered. Mac and her pals in the Cozy Capers, a band of crime solving readers, work through all the suspects to look for the truth. This is classic cozy territory (complete with a great setting on the Cape, a bike shop, etc) but what sets this series apart are the characters- especially Mac and her husband Tim. They're hoping for a baby now. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. Oh- and recipes!
Another interesting trip to Cape Cod. Unfortunately even though we are in high tourist season on the Cape, it is pouring rain which is not especially good for business, but as Mac hurries to open her bike shop anyway, she is stopped outside The Rusty Anchor by the head chef who came into work and has found a dead body behind the bar. You know Mac's book group will be on the case as the victim was an older gentleman who had taught at the town's high school for years. Although the victim was not especially popular, who would take him out permanently? As time goes on, it seems that there were a lot of people who had reason to want the victim gone, including members of the book group and employees of most of the book group members. Will this murder destroy the group? Will they finally risk too much and have someone in the group permanently silenced? Can Mac put things back to right? Come join the investigation! Cozy Capers Book Group has a new murder to solve! A man is found dead at the local pub, and the book group is quick with a list of suspects.
As always, this cozy mystery series does not disappoint! Mac Almeida and her book club make for a fabulous cast of characters. You will fall in love with this town. Make sure you have a Snack Snack!
*if you know, you know*
Mac and her Cozy Caper group are drawn into solving the murder of a former teacher. Plenty of suspects and the group works to find the culprit. I love these characters and their relationship with the local authorities. I appreciate that it is not adversarial, but rather a mutual understanding that the group is asking questions and doing research.. I love that Mac's parrot is active throughout the story and a hero in the end. Well written and a great addition to this series.
Thanks to netgalley for a copy of this book in return for a review.

Mac is the second one to see the body, but the local and state police know her well enough to groan.
“Mac” Almeida had a high-powered employment history but now owns a bicycle rent/repair shop, has a father who is a minister, a mother who is an astrologer, has a verbose African Grey parrot, a baker for a husband, and is essential to the Cozy Capers Book Group who have been known to investigate a murder or five. Nice cozy that I enjoyed in one day.
I requested and received a free temporary EARC from Kensington Publishing | Kensington Cozies via NetGalley. Thank you!
I have really enjoyed this series in the past and I did enjoy this book but it didn’t have the same pizzazz as the past books. I think it was just be though.
Mac seemed a tad snooty in this book. I get she is the owner of the store but it’s repeated often that she is the owner. I felt like it was boasting a little. I missed her grandma and wished she had a bigger role in the story.
I always love her morning walks with her friend and how they hash out the crime.
Overall a good read. I felt there were a few loose threads but that means there should be another book!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley, opinions express in this review are completely my own.
This is the 6th book in the series, and Mac has settled into her marriage, her family are all having no issues, and then in the space of one day, her parents pull a huge anniversary party they want them all involved in, as Mac literally gets pulled into a suspicious death scene, that soon evolves into a murder. But when the victim is hated by so many people, both currently and in his past, where do you start with suspects? As Mac's Cozy Book Squad starts to work on the case, behind the scenes, it soon becomes apparent there are issues in the group that may have influenced the murder. A quick cozy read, this series grows on me the more I read it. Day has set a few things in motion in this book that I feel will influence the next one, so make sure if you read this one, you sign up for the next book in the series too!
Enjoyable series. I haven’t read another series with a bike repair shop. Mac and friends are enjoyable characters. Nice mystery . Recommend reading series
Murder at the Rusty Anchor is the 6th Book in the Cozy Caper mystery series by author Maddie Day. And honestly, what is there not to love about a book written as Maddie Day or Edith Maxwell. This author knows how to create a cozy mystery series with small town, idyllic locations, wonderful characters that offer something for everyone, and plots/storylines that pull the reader into the story and keep them guessing. This book had all the hallmarks of a terrific Maddie Day story and I thoroughly enjoy each visit with Mac and the rest of the characters. I am already looking forward to their next adventure.
Another good book in this series and 2 thumbs up!
This is book number 6 in the series but I started reading with book #3. And one of the things I liked about that book, the body was found in the very first chapter. Fast forward to book number 6, and Maddie Day grabs my attention with a corpse showing up at the very beginning of the book. And I do mean VERY BEGINNING. This may come as a surprise to you, but there was a Murder at the Rusty Anchor restaurant. (Hence the title.) But don't worry, it's a very unlikeable character who rubbed everyone the wrong way. (this is a cozy). Mac (our main character) wasn't the first to find the body but is on the case with her book club companions; who have had their own run ins with the deceased and keeping it secret. Could it be a member of the club? Or someone that works for Mac? Mac and her friends divide and conquer to dig up info on the dead body and the suspects.
Well written and held my interest throughout the book.
Highlights that give you a real connection to the characters and their lives: mentioning Elly Byron's upcoming series debut " A Very Woodsy Murder" (publishing in July of 2024) immediately caught my attention and made me squee at the mention of one of my favorite authors, and was a good reminder I have an ARC of it to read. And one of the best scenes is the parrot FaceTime meet up. Does this really exist? Cause I love the idea. Although it doesn't go so well for the bird's vocabulary, reading this little extra bit in the story just endears the characters and their daily lives.
A recommended read with that cabot cove feeling of too many deaths happening in a small town, but that's okay as long as it's none of the main characters we've all come to love. Throw a parrot in the mix (you need to read to see what the bird does at the end. Priceless.) and it's just the perfect cozy.
Thank you Netgalley and #KensingtonCozies for eARC of this story. Looking forward to the next in the series.
The Cozy Capers Book Club is up to it again....trying to work together to find clues as to who could have killed a not so popular teacher from the high school.
When Mac is inadvertently drawn into the Rusty Anchor to see the body of her old teacher, she and her capers jump right into trying to figure things out.
This book/series is a lot of fun, with great characters, an interesting mystery, and a good sprinkle of action. Already looking forward to what they get up to next.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Book six of the series but the first for me. I really enjoyed the story and the interesting characters specially the Cozy Capers Book Group. Looking forward to the next book.
This is the sixth book in the Cozy Capers Book Group Mystery series by Maddie Day.
What I like about the series and this book is the tight knit family feel of the characters. The book club members genuinely care about each other.
In this story there are many worries or concerns on the book club members and their families.
Mac’s concerns about getting pregnant bogged this story down. We saw less of law enforcement in the story and a lot of personal drama.
I liked the story, the twists, and plenty of suspects.
Netgalley and Kensington books provided me an advanced reader’s copy. I am not required to leave a positive review.
Maddie Day is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors. Back when I first discovered cozies the first in this series was among the first I read and loved the small town, book club, side characters and mysteries in here.
We are back on the east coast (the best coast) with all of the characters you know and love. After a particularly rainy weekend Mac finds herself inside the Rusty Anchor Pub and at the scene of yet another murder.
Only thing is this time her friend Flo, the local librarian, is at the top of the list of suspects.
Mac enlists the help of her own cozy mystery book club the Cozy Capers to help clear her friends name.
One of my favorite things is the very subtle but noticed diversity that Day puts in her cozies. It never feels forced or out of place which is always appreciated. The cozy mystery space should be inclusive and welcoming to everyone who wants to join and I believe Day does a good job of including lots of backgrounds in her series.
