This book was so crazy and at times very far-fetched, but it kept me glued to my Kindle for long into the night.
There's an affair then trying to get out of the affair, turns sinister and deadly. This family will never he the same. Just when you think you know, you don't know anything. The ending was so satisfying I cheered.
I enjoyed reading this! Lisa always delivers and this was no exception. Kept me hooked until the last page and I would recommend.
Our Little Secret
By Lisa Jackson
Review and Rating 3 ⭐️
I had not read a Lisa Jackson in a bit, and I was excited to receive Our Little Secret as an ARC.
On one hand, I liked it. It was a quick, easy read. The writing style makes for a page turner! However, the story is full of of unlikeable characters in very unlikely situation making bad decisions. I know this is the bread and butter of psychological thrillers, but here it just makes it hard find anyone to invest in. I ended up finishing it anyway, and I’m giving it 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️.
I want to thank #NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the ARC. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Our Little Secret by Lisa Jackson is an exciting and suspenseful thriller that pulls you in with its family drama and dark secrets. The story follows a group of old friends who reunite years after a tragedy, only to find that the past isn’t as buried as they thought. As secrets come to light, the tension builds, making it hard to put the book down.
A very creepy stalker book.
Brooke has an affair but doesn't make the best choice of bedfellows. She picked the guy who won't let go.........ever.
She has a sister who is so wrapped up in herself and never stops reminding Brooke that she stole her boyfriend (Brooke's now rich husband) and that she should have living her cushy life. The sister had so many recurring issues I became tired of her.
Husband has his own ugly past including lending money (a lot of money) to the sister who thinks it is because he still loves her.
There were many predictable moments in the story, making me speed read to the next obvious juncture. It was hard to believe a woman with so many opportunities to get out of the mess she made, didn't........lots of eye rolling on my part.
However, the author was very clever with the unhinged stalker character and how and when he would show up..and with whom!
Lots of seedy characters and predicaments to keep your head shaking in disbelief........but I read it to the very last page!
This book hooked me from the beginning. Lisa Jackson has done it again. Brooke is married to Neal, an attorney. They have one daughter, Marilee. Marriage hasn’t always been easy for them. They had separated for a few months but recently reconciled. A year ago, a girl from Marilee’s school disappeared and has never been found. Now a second girl has disappeared. Marilee is giving them teenager problems. Brooke’s semi-estranged sister comes to visit. Both Neal and Brooke are keeping secrets that could derail their lives. I couldn’t wait to find out the ending but I didn’t want it to end. Five stars all the way. I received an ARC of this book. The opinions are my own.
After deciding to end her affair with Gideon Ross, Brooke Harmon finds herself in a very dangerous situation that's soon impossible to get out of. Gideon has decided he’s not going to let her go. He’s obsessed and will rather die before letting her leave him. Things begins to spiral out of control when Gideon starts stalking and sneaking into her home. He shows up to her home as a pizza delivery guy, and even watches her daughter. He sends scary texts and stands outsider her home. Brooke needs to put an end to this without her family finding out or, even worse, getting hurt. We follow along as Brooke tries to untangle the messy web she created . What happens when the lies start to unravel and the truths start coming out? What does it mean for Brooke and her family? Will she ever be free of the mistakes she made? See how far both Brooke and Gideon go for something they want.
This book was twisty, but dragged on and then the sudden conclusion just sort of...stopped the novel, quite abruptly. The characters were not very well fleshed out, the drama seemed pretty far fetched at times. Not a terrible book, but not one I will recommend or remember.
Thank you to NetGalley, Lisa Jackson, and Kensington Publishing for an ARC copy of "Our Little Secret".
This book was an enjoyable read with just the right mix of romance and suspense. The story of Brooke Harmon, who tries to end her affair with the charming yet obsessive Gideon Ross, keeps you intrigued as you follow her journey. Brooke’s struggle to move on with her life while dealing with the lingering fear that Gideon might return adds a layer of tension that keeps the pages turning.
If you’re looking for a suspenseful read that’s more about psychological tension than high-stakes drama, this book is a great choice. It’s a solid, well-written story that’s perfect for a weekend read. Highly recommended for those who enjoy a mix of romance and suspense without too much intensity.
I have always loved all of Lisa Jackson's novels and Our Little Secret did not disappoint me. Brooke finds her husband has been cheating, so starts an affair of her own. Things start spiraling when they reconcile. This novel is about obsession and betrayal. It had a number of twists and turns, especially the end. I would definitely recommend this to Lisa Jackson's fans as well as anyone who loves family suspense.
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the advance reading copy.
I’ve always enjoyed Lisa Jackson’s books and this one did not disappoint. This book kept me on the edge and it was just what I need. While it was a little predictable at times I enjoyed the book and didn’t mind the predictability.
This book, while somewhat violent and terrifying at points, was fascinating. I will admit I was at first "oh another cheating spouse thriller," but was pleasantly surprised throughout the book by not only the details, but the relationship and character development as well. This book only took me a few days to read, and was well worth the read. I was definitely trying to predict what was going to happen, and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't guess it correctly every time.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for the advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.
"He swore he’d never let her go. She should have believed him."
Our Little Secret is an addictive tale of obsession, betrayal and violent delights. The book follows Brooke Hastings and how she had a brief affiar with Gideon Ross but she knows this was a mistake. This book is a page turner from begining to end with twist and turns. The book kept me guessing until the end and overall it was such a twisted ride. This author wrote the book very well and I look forward to reading more of the authors books. I highly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend this book to any reader who loves a good mystery or thriller. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for this unputdownable read in exchange of my honest review of Our Little Secret by Lisa Jackson.
When Brooke finds out her husband has an affair they decide to break it off but then decide to work things out. When she runs in to a man named Gideon in a coffee shop she understands how her husband could have an affair. When Gideon and her start dating she lies to her entire family and when she decides to break it off, he goes nuts and starts stalking her. Weird things start to happen and her relationship with her family gets strained.
I've been a fan of Lisa Jackson for a long time now and I've loved most of her books.
One Little Secret was really good. It was full of suspense and drama. The writing was excellent as usual, and the storyline was compelling.
While I enjoyed the book, Brooke was the only semi likable character. I really couldn't stand the rest of them, especially Leah, she was awful. It added to the story though, giving us characters we love to hate.
I highly recommend, and I look forward to seeing what Lisa comes up with next.
4 Stars from me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to Netgalley, Kensington Publishing and Lisa Jackson for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Normally really like Lisa Jackson books. This one was slow until the end. Problem with the book is that there are really no likable characters at all.
Fans of domestic suspense and thrillers will definitely enjoy this book. Realistic family squabbles, interesting characters, and an intense plot always makes for a good book. I recommend.
Brooke Harmon is ready to break things off with Gideon Ross she just hopes he doesn't take it badly. She just wants to move forward with her life without him in it. Gideon doesn't take it well and lets her know she belongs.with him and he will never let her go. It's A year later and Brooke thinks Gideon has finally moved on and she can put him in the past where he belongs. Brooke still has bouts of fear but.she isn't sure if that is her instincts speaking or whether she is just being paranoid. Jump in and find out if the fear is justified or if the paranoia has just taken over and there isn't really anything to fear.
You know when you get frustrated with a main character, but you watch (read) it anyway? That was me with this. I hated her decisions, but then I stood by with popcorn. It felt real at times and OTT at others. It was compelling. I wanted to see the train wrecks (plural) happen. Some of the pacing was a bit off for me, with some back and forth time stuff that pulled me out at times, but I did like it. Solid 4.
This is a nicely twisted story that does a pretty good job of trying to guess who is lying, who is sneaking around, who has hidden motives and who will end up still alive? You have Brooke ending an affair with a hot but crazy guy who swears they will be together forever...one way or another. And boy does he show his love with all that stalking of her family. Then you add in more secrets, twisting how actions in the past happened, a daughter falling in love for the first time (and making her own stupid choices), a husband that probably had an affair of his own (and maybe more than one), and a sister bearing grudges of her own. Now, I would have gone to the police if I found tracking devices and recording equipment so it did bother me that Brooke did not do so. But creepy thrilling book that I enjoyed reading and I was not too surprised at the ending but enjoyed it nonetheless.
