Rarity runs a bookstore and has offered it's space to put together back packs for the local school kids. Her friend Shirley is the one spearheading this drive. Shirley wants to attend the opening of a new art gallery in Sedona. Her husband is in a memory care facility. She has a male friend, but doesn't want to go along with him as she is worried about how it will look. So she asks Rarity and Rarity's friend Sam along with their respective boyfriends to attend. All goes well until the new owner is found dead the next morning. The prime suspect is Rarity's boyfriend Archer. He knew the owner from college days. But Archer isn't the only one with a motive. The dead man has a reputation of using people. So Rarity is snooping, trying to solve the riddle of who really killed the man.

I love Lynn Cahoon. Each of her series highlight a different location and group of people. Her stories are always entertaining and engaging. Great cozies!

I’ve been really enjoying this series! This entry was really solid until the very end - the ending just didn’t feel properly wrapped up within the conventions of a cozy. I’m curious if that will become a standard, which could be an issue. Cahoon is giving a nice amount of depth to the secondary characters and continuing to grow the cast.

Reading Between the Lies is the fourth book in the Survivor's Book Club Mystery series by Lynn Cahoon. I love this series and enjoy visiting Sedona, AZ, where the story takes place. The friendships are wonderful and a great reminder of how import these relationships are. Thank you, NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the opportunity to read this enjoyable book..

Shirley asks Rarity for a huge favor, she has become friends with a local male but doesn't want it to look like she is stepping out on her husband who has Alzheimer's. She wants Rarity to attend a local art show with the pair. Rarity agrees and the night goes off without a hitch. When the gallery owner is found dead the next day with an arrow in his back Rarity wonders who disliked the man so much. She decides to take the.mystery to the group and they begin to look into things. Follow along and see where the clues lead them, will they find the killer before someone else ends up dead?

Reading Between the Lies by Lynn Cahoon left me feeling quite disappointed. I’m unsure if my tastes have evolved or if Cahoon’s writing has declined, but her recent books, including this one, haven’t resonated with me. The story feels more like a rough draft, filled with disjointed ideas and tangents, rather than a polished narrative with engaging characters and a plausible plot.

Given that Cahoon has published over 40 books and is an award-winning author, I expected much more. Unfortunately, I only made it halfway through Reading Between the Lies before resorting to skimming the rest. By the end, I was indifferent to the plot, the characters, and the setting.

I think I’ve reached my limit with this series. However, I plan to give her Tourist Trap series one more chance before deciding whether Lynn Cahoon remains on my TBR list. Here’s hoping for a return to the engaging storytelling that initially drew me to her work.

Rarity is grateful for many things and people in her new life after cancer, including her friend Shirley, who is helping to provide backpacks and supplies for kids going back to school. But Shirley needs a big favor. With her husband in a memory-care home, she wants to attend an art opening with a male friend but fears local gossip. She asks Rarity, her friend Sam, and their boyfriends to come along as cover. It would be fun if not for the fact that the two couples are barely speaking… The evening proceeds without any social disasters. But the gallery owner—who struck Rarity as more of a spoiled playboy—is later found dead with an arrow in his back. Any lingering tensions must be set aside so the amateur sleuths can find the archer.

I love cozy mysteries and have seen Lynn Cahoon's name but never read any of her books until this one. I did not realize it was #4 of 5 when I requested it, but don't feel like I missed too much by not reading the first three first as the author gave enough back story to anyone, like me, reading them out of order. I really liked the characters in the book, but do want to now go back and read the first three books in the series to see who they have developed. I will also be looking out for the next book in the series. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting my request to read this book.

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Rarity’s Bookstore is doing good and so is her relationship with her boyfriend. But when an art gallery owner is found murdered, things start going south. Archer, Rarity’s boyfriend, is considered to be a person of interest. Rarity and her crime solving book club will have to solve the case, because Rarity knows Archer is innocent.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery is well plotted and there were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well plotted cozy mystery. I really like this book and I think you will too.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Publishing, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

This was my first read of this series but I caught up quickly. The cast of characters are great. The mystery kept me guessing. Lynn Cahoon is the queen of the cozy mystery and once again delivers! Thank you net galley for my E-ARC!

I love Lynn Cahoon, but this is one series I may have to quit. I keep waiting for Rarity and company to get more interesting, but they just aren’t. Archer seemed like a completely different character from the first 3 novels. Sam and Drew are fighting over something completely stupid and trivial, and the mystery itself was weird. I didn’t really understand the motive either.

Overall, I rate this novel 3 out of 5 stars.

This is the fourth installment of the Survivor’s Book Club Series. I feel like I have come to know the characters and their quirks. Rarity and Archer have gone to a gallery opening. They were invited because Archer knew the owner, Jackson, from college. The next day, Archer finds Jackson naked and dead in a vortex outside the gallery. Since Archer is a suspect, Rarity and the rest of her group decides they need to launch an investigation of their own. There is a sweet side story concerning Shirley and Rarity’s neighbor, Terrance. I’m already looking forward to the next installment. Thank you, NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for this ARC.

Reading Between the Lies is the fourth book in the Survivor's Book Club Mysteries. I love all of Lynn Cahoon's series and this one is no exception. It follows Rarity who moves to Sedona to open a bookshop after surviving cancer and deciding to make a huge life change. She has made some great friends, adopted a chihuahua named Killer and started a survivor's book club. Her book club was suppose to be part reading club/part support group, but it's turned into a crime solving committee too.

The latest mystery surrounds a new luxury community/art gallery/spiritual compound and it's ecclect owner who is found dead.
Archer, Rarity's boyfriend is considered a suspect so of course Rarity and her group get on the case.

This book has a lot of side character and relationship interactions/plotlines as well. The mystery is not the only focus. I did find the ending a bit abrupt and that did take away from the flow of the book for me.
I still enjoyed the book and the series and would recommend it!

Reading Between the Lies is the latest from Lynn Cahoon in the Survivor’s Book Club series. Rarity and friends must find out who killed a local gallery owner so that her boyfriend Archer doesn’t take the fall. As always, I enjoyed catching up with the book club. The story was a good one. I did know who the killer was, and found the reveal to be less exciting than usual in her stories, but it was still enjoyable!

Reading Between the Lies is the fourth cozy mystery in the Survivors’ Book Club Mystery series. A new art gallery is opening in Sedona and Rarity Cole and her friends go to the opening. When her boyfriend Archer finds a the gallery owner murdered the suspicion is cast on him after his past with the victim comes out. In order to save her boyfriend from suspicion, Rarity and her book club friends take on the case. They won’t stop until they uncover the true murderer, even if that means putting themselves in danger.

I have been with this series since the beginning and have really enjoyed it, this newest mystery was no different. I really enjoy the setting of this book and the cast of characters. The characters really add to this series and the variety of them keeps it interesting. This was a fun mystery that kept me guessing until the end, but I found the way the murdered was caught to be very anticlimactic this time around. I will keep coming back to this series time and time again and look forward to what comes next for Rarity and the gang. If you are looking for a fun cozy mystery series to start, give this one a try. The books can all be read as standalone but are better as a series!

I liked this book more than the previous in the series. It felt like it moved along & is easy to follow . The characters are well developed. It’s an interesting plot line, different than other cozy mysteries. #ReadingBetweentheLies #NetGalley

This series is a light read. As with many books in the genre, the characters' interactions are more important than the plot. Rarity and Archer's relationship is sort of lukewarm, but the friends group is solid.
Although I've enjoyed this series, this one was my least favorite. No spoilers, but the ending was unsatisfying.
Recommended for fans of the series.

Reading Between the Lies is #4 in the Survivor's Book Club Mysteries.  Rarity owns a bookshop so we are frequently there seeing the day to day life of a bookseller and her helpers. She has really settled into Sedona and is part of the place. Killer her dog is still to the forefront with great care given him.

When an art gallery owner is found dead, Archer - Rarity's boyfriend is the first suspect. And of course he's not responsible for it, and Rarity and her group of "investigators" set out to find out who did it. They all meet on a Tuesday night to put together everything they have found out. Rarity keeps in touch with Drew from the local police as well.

Being a cozy mystery there is much that is about the local people and Shirley who works in the shop, has a dilemma as her husband is in a care facility and doesn't recognise her and she is enjoying a relationship with Rarity's next door neighbor.

I enjoyed all the goings on and the ups and downs of relationships. Some of the love relationships seemed to be going through rough patches. There are happenings that seem important but are they related to the central mystery? In the end I felt the revelation of the mystery killer is very much an anti climax rather than the climax of the story.

I liked this book but didn't totally love it. It dragged for me at times. I will most likely read the next one in the series to finally decide me on this series.

I would recommend that if this book appeals to you, read the previous three as stepping into the various characters and how they are related would need some solid previous reading.

Good addition to the series. Rarity is enjoying her bookstore, spending time with her boyfriend Archer, hosting the bookstore's book club, and investigating murders. Unfortunately the latest murder they are investigating hits close to home when Archer is top of the suspect list. They will have to work hard to solve this one and keep Archer safe.

Love reading about Rarity, her bookstore, her book club (murder club), and the area around Sedona. The author's descriptions really make me want to visit. I enjoyed the mystery, but I did feel the solving of it was a little rushed. This didn't detract from my enjoyment at all.
The blurb for the next book has me going, hmmmmm

Many thanks to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.

I really enjoy this series and this was no exception. I like the characters, the bookstore setting as well as the town of Sedona in general. I also always really enjoy the mysteries as well. This one starts with with Rarity and her boyfriend, Archer, visiting a new art gallery owned by one of Archer's old school friends. Things quickly spin out of control when the old school friend is found murdered and it turns out his relationship with Archer wasn't always friendly. Luckily, Rarity's book club is always ready to get involved in the investigation with the help of Jonathan, the father of Drew, the actual detective on the case.

Like a lot of cozy mysteries the actual mystery isn't always front and center. There's a lot of focus on relationships - especially Archer and Rarity (who seriously need to communicate better), Sam and Drew (ditto) and the new but more poignant relationship between Shirley and Terrence. As well, there's a lot of day to day bookstore business and quite a bit of Rarity's everyday life. I enjoyed all of this but it definitely keeps it from being the fastest pace of reads and at times the mystery really took a backseat. As well, the reveal did feel a bit anti-climatic.

If you enjoy light cozy mysteries that do touch on more serious topics this is a good choice though I do recommend starting with the first book so you can get to know all the characters.

Although I had heard of Lynn Cahoon, I had not read any of her books until this one. Let me say I will certainly be reading more, as I had fun reading this one. This is the fourth in the Survivor's Book Club Mystery series.

Description:
Prolific New York Times bestselling author Lynn Cahoon pens a new episode in the Tuesday Night Survivors Club Mystery series set in a cozy bookstore café in Sedona, Arizona.

Rarity is grateful for many things and people in her new life, including her friend Shirley, who is helping to provide backpacks and supplies for kids going back to school. But Shirley needs a big favor. With her husband in a memory-care home, she wants to attend an art opening with a male friend but fears local gossip. She asks Rarity, her friend Sam, and their boyfriends to come along as cover. It would be fun if not for the fact that the two couples are barely speaking…

The evening proceeds without any social disasters. But the featured artist—who struck Rarity as more of a spoiled playboy—is later found dead with an arrow in his back. Any lingering tensions must be set aside so the amateur sleuths can find an archer who may have taken the idea of pointed criticism a bit too literally . .

My Thoughts:
Even though this is not the first of the series, it was easy to read it as a stand alone. I liked Rarity's devotion to making her bookstore a success. She was doing all the things to make the bookstore part of the community and I think that's what everyone wants in a bookstore. I enjoyed following the investigation and how Rarity and the Book Club Members helped. It was an interesting case. Anyone who likes cozy mysteries will enjoy the book.

Thanks to Kensington Books and Lyrical Press through Netgalley for an advance copy.
