Another beautiful story by Rachel Hannah in the Jubilee Series. This is book #4.

We open up with Ava and Millie running to get away....and they drive right into a huge snow storm. As Ava realizes that she is running out of gas in her old, vintage, red truck...well, it just dies. And when she opens up the door to evaluate next steps in the snowstorm, well, Millie, her beloved boxer, jets out of the car...right into the storm.

As Ava sits in the car, freezing and despairing (in turns)...she just wants to die....

But, along comes Deputy Jack...to the rescue. He gets her to his cabin...nice and warm...and they talk.
They set out looking for the dog as soon as the weather clears a bit, but they do not find her...

BUT, Ava starts to see that the quaint little town of Jubilee is actually a wonderful place to be...with caring people, kind neighbors, and just an absolutely beautiful all around vibe...

3 1/2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 for me, rounded up to 4.

#BlueRidgeBreakdown by #RachelHannah.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeSelect for an ARC of the audiobook which releases on 4/16/24...so just about a week from now.

Cons: Once again, I'm hoping that this might just be an ARC problem, but not really sure? The narrator, does not stop, breathe, or give any indication that we are changing people, places, etc...we just go from one chapter to the next with a 'chapter 2'...which is kind of odd...and I do listen to a LOT of audiobooks. I actually looked to see if it was maybe a computer reading it, but no, it is a person...so that's just strange to me. Also, when I looked back on others in this series that I've read, I said the exact same thing... no change in inflection, no change in tone. Different people, but everyone sounds pretty much the same... Sorry...just my opinion, but wanted to get it out there.

Thoughts?? Has anyone else listened to this one?? Thanks!

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Select and Rachel Hanna for gifting me this ALC of the audiobook to review.

This is a very short small-town romance.

The focus of the story is on Ava and Jack, but part of it also focuses on Madeleine and Brady and other inhabitants of Jubilee. When I picked this book up, I thought it was a standalone romance and the first part of the series and while the storyline of Ava and Jack can be read as a standalone, the other parts, mainly the ones about Madeleine and Brady don’t work so well without having read the previous books in the series. It is not that the storyline of Madeleine and Brady is not understandable without the other books, or that a lot is being recapped, it is that their parts didn’t add anything to the story. This is probably all right for all those readers who are revisiting their favourite couple from book one (I believe), but as a new reader, I just didn’t feel anything and therefore didn’t care about their story. I might have to read the other books of the series to change my mind.

The addition of the Madeleine/Brady story also made the pacing of the story a bit strange. While Madeleine/Brady galivant around town looking at Brady’s new house, Ava and Jack are still stuck indoors and haven’t even started looking for Millie, Ava’s dog.
I liked the Ava’s and Jack’s story. It was a cosy read without any triggers. I thought it was a little weird how it was obvious to both Jack and Ava that she would stay at Jack’s hut even after the snowstorm had passed, even though they initially only discussed her staying the night, but I am willing to forgive this little oddity because Jack is very sweet and even bought some shoes for Ava.
Given that the majority of the book is during a snowstorm, the cover with its flowers and lack of snow that gives off spring/summer vibes is a bit misleading and could lead to some expectations of readers not being met.

I listened to the audiobook: The narrator was very understandable also at higher speeds, but the editing could have been done a little better. There was barely any breathing room between two chapters. Sometimes it even felt a bit like the last word of the previous chapter was cut off a bit. Massive breaks between chapters are obviously also annoying, but I have never listened to an audiobook where the break was this abrupt. It also doesn’t help that the narrator doesn’t distinguish between the different storylines in her voice acting. Without giving the different sections a headline who they are about, it was sometimes very hard to understand who’s part of the story the narrator was focusing on at the moment. I especially had a hard time with this at the beginning of the book, as I didn’t even know there would be a different storyline apart from Ava’s and Jack’s. Chapter 9 and possibly other chapters also had a grainy sound in to recording.

All in all, this is a very cosy read that reminded me a lot of the TV show 'Virgin River’.

I absolutely love Rachel Hanna's books and the latest in her Jubilee series (this is book 4) is wonderful! I love listening to her books on audio for I love the southern flare the reader always has.

I enjoyed "Blue Ridge Breakdown" by Rachel Hanna. It was a cozy and hopeful book in spite of some stressful moments such as trucks breaking down and lost dogs. I find these types of books as good comfort and distraction reads in today's times. Because I have not read the first three books in the series, some of the side characters were a bit confusing for me. Still the author had strong character development with the main characters and told an engaging story in a short time. I enjoyed the narrator as well. Good for fans of Robyn Carr novels. Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for the eARC.

Ava Monroe is running away from her life. when her old truck breaks down in a blizzard in the mountains, her dog escapes and Ava fears she is close to death from the cold. Suddenly she is rescued by Jack, a man who looks like a lumberjack. He takes her home where she warms up and is nourished. Jack and Ava spend the next few days looking for her dog, Millie. Ava has a secret in her past which of course catches up with her. There are a few other side stories where eventually all the characters intersect. This is a feel good story about recovering from your mistakes and waiting for the right person. I love Rachel Hannah books and recommend this one.

This was such a good cutesy pootsy read! I totally enjoyed the story, I would like to get the book version when it’s available as I didn’t love the narrator. The book was 4 stars! But the narrator wasn’t great for me. Thank you for allowing me this!

Of all the settings for Rachel Hanna books, this one has become such a favorite to me. I love the introduction of new characters while still visiting the others. The way it is written always makes me want to sit down at the table with the characters and catch up on their lives. This one brings together a woman on the run from her past and a man who loves his life in the mountains but has his own past to shy away from. How these two transform is a great read. If you like lovable characters in a warm hometown, this one will be a great read for you. Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC.

Short, sweet, light, small town surprise romance. Ava was a contestant on a “Bachelor” type show and got picked out of the many women by the uber wealthy “Bachelor”. While in her wedding dress and about to walk down the aisle she has a “what have I done?” and climbs out the bathroom window and drives away with her beloved dog in her old truck. A snowstorm, very old truck, small winding road, a runaway dog all lead to a sweet happily ever after in her new found town where she is embraced and loved. A delightful easy listen with wonderful narration. Hoping that there is more to come from this sweet series, but in my opinion this can be read as a stand alone without missing a beat.
