Overall: 2.75⭐️ (rounded up for Goodreads)
I felt like this book suffered from pacing issues. There were times it felt as if it went really fast, and times it seemed like it was dragging. I think the plot employees the “red herring” really well although I did ultimately guess who was behind Diana’s disappearance very early on. I really disliked the protagonist so I had a hard time cheering for her as a “heroine”. Overall not a bad story but I don’t think I’d choose it again. If you like books that feel like a teenager melodrama then this might be for you, but it wasn’t for me.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC
interesting thriller. the protagonist was kinda meh, but the ending was really well done. definitely felt younger YA, though, more 13-14 then 13-17. 3 stars. tysm for the arc.
I really enjoyed this book. It did take me about 25% in to really want to grab it & read. I didn’t expect the ending at all.
Delia & Diana are best friends since they were 2 but Delia feels like she can’t compare with beauty queen Diana so she goes by Lia now. Diana is the dramatic beauty queen, always has to look spotless & has a handsome boyfriend, Eli. Lia is your book smart, bass playing, girl next door but when her & Eli kiss, she’s worried Diana won’t forgive her. But when Lia & Diana are supposed to sneak out to meet at the park & Lia is going to confess… Diana never shows up. Lia thinks Diana knew all along & is playing a trick on her. Each day that goes by Lia gets more worried & doesn’t think Diana would be this cruel or be gone this long. And that doesn’t even mention the roses & notes Lia has been receiving… but what happened to Diana? Will she ever come back?
I enjoyed this quick read. It seemed to take a bit to get going, but once it took off, it kept me interested. While I did manage to narrow down the "who done it", to 2 people, I kept flip-flopping between them, as you should with this type of story. That part was very well done. I only wish that the ending would've been a bit longer, there were a few things I wanted clarification on. Overall, it was an interesting and engaging story.
Read it in one sitting. Requested the book because the title and cover caught my attention. It’s a really fast paced book. A little spelling error..
Could work on the ending a little more, i thought it needed to be a little longer and more detail.
Thank u netgalley for the arc !
If you enjoy YA books, I think you would like this book. Typically I enjoy YA books however, this book was a little too YA for my liking. The book took awhile to get into. It was definitely a slow burn. I feel like the story line and the plot kind of fell flat for me.
I think the appropriate age group that would enjoy this book is between the ages of 12-15.
It was a good story, I just felt like something was missing.
Oh this book felt very much like everything I loved to read 5+ years ago. It was definitely captivating and I wanted to keep reading. I loved how everything shook out and thought the author did a great job of weaving it all together! A great read.
This one was a roller coaster! From the very beginning, I loved both Lia and Diana and their friendship dynamic - I knew from the start it was going to be an interesting story! Throw in a secret boyfriend and Diana going missing, and I couldn't put this one down! While Jayne had a strong start, it felt like the search just dragged on without much happening. Then the ending went from 0 to 100 and was VERY intense - I know it's a harsh reality of the real world, but definitely puts this book into the older YA genre (for example, I'd recommend this for high schoolers, but probably not to most of my 7th-8th graders). Overall, this was a single-sitting read and I'll be keeping my eye out for Jayne's future books!
DNF at 15%. I just couldn’t get into it. I didn’t care what happened to Diana. And I didn’t care about if Lia would find out the truth.
I have read another book by this author "What happened on Hicks Road" so I was already anticipating a suspenseful, high energy, psychological, mystery, thriller. It lived up to the expectations. From the very start this story pulled you in and made you question all relationships and all reality. It is a captivating read. It is hard to put down so you may want to put aside some time to read it all at once.
This author has written some other books that I will now have to go back and read!
Enjoy!
this was a decent read. keep in mind that this is a YA, so if reading about teens going through something would be a bit too immature for you... then you wouldn't enjoy this as much. i personally love reading through different genres, so this was no biggie for me.
i will say that the first half was a bit slow, but things really pick up halfway through and you can't put it down from that point on. there's a lot of suspense and intensity throughout the story. i'd highly recommend this to those who enjoy thrillers for sure. i would say that there are some elements that could've been added to make it better. like stepping up the thrill a notch, a couple scary action to the plot. but as is... it's okay.
thank you to NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this book. i received this book as an ARC. all thoughts and opinions of this book are my own, and i leave this review voluntarily.
Thanks, NetGalley and SourceBooks for the ARC.
This was a fairly average YA thriller…decent but nothing special. I figured out the villain about half-way through but still enjoyed getting to the end and the twist. A couple things that annoyed me were how quickly Eli’s attitude toward Lia shifted after Diana went missing, how long it took Lia to actually be concerned, how completely dismissive the cops were toward her, and there are 2 sweatshirts I still have questions about.
I would read future thrillers by Hannah Jayne.
"We Did Nothing Wrong" is an angsty teen drama/mystery and whilst it was entertaining provided nothing new, We follow teen Lia who desperately wants to step out from behind her childhood best friend, Diana. Then Diana goes missing and Lia thinks she might be next and the drama moves on from there. It was an easy read, at the lower end of YA. It could have done with more engaging and likable characters.
This one started off pretty rocky for me. The dialogue felt off and a bit juvenile between the characters. I couldn’t buy that Lia and Diana could be friends. They really were awful to each other and there wasn’t much background to offset that or show why they became friends to begin with.
With that being said, the book really picked up around 30% and had a very strong ending. I will still be recommending this book.
We did nothing wrong was a quick read thrille ri just could not put it down.
Hannah Jayne sure knows how to draw in the readers and keep them on the edge of their seats.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and lovable. The pacing was perfect and left you wanting to read more. I can't wait to read more by this author!
very interesting and nice book!! the background was built nicely and the flow of the story was just right! not to slow but not rushed.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcefire Books for my arc in exchange for my unbiased opinion !
"We Did Nothing Wrong" is an angsty teen drama/mystery and while I do occasionally enjoy watching shows like that, I found myself rolling my eyes a lot while reading this. We follow teen Lia who desperately wants to step out from behind her childhood best friend, Diana. Then Diana goes missing and Lia thinks she might be next. Honestly, this was pretty bad. It read and felt like a rejected CW teen show script. Most of the story was Lia just spouting nonsense. It didn't help that she and Diana are unlikeable, so once Diana disappears, it's like "...okay?" and with Lia, it just makes it difficult to really care.
It's fine I guess if you just want to turn your brain off.
This book was such a fun read! I always love the dynamics of a story where one friend goes missing, especially when it forces the main character to solve a mystery. This book was particularly intriguing with the inclusion of a "secret admirer" with a connection to both girls. I also thought it was relevant to the current epidemic of missing girls who are presumed to be runaways. It felt like listening to my favorite true crime podcast!
Thank you, NetGalley and source fire books for my earc!
Teen drama mixed with a diabolical ending. I usually do enjoy teen angsty mysteries. But it wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it would be. I was honestly so angry that no one believed Lia. when her best friend goes missing and she brings a bunch of clues to the police. They look the other way and so do her parents which leads to a whole crazy ending that I did not see, but the gaslighting really did get to me regarding how they treated Lia. The book was longer than it should’ve been and it wasn’t getting to the point right away for me so it was an ok mystery with an unexpected ending, but I did expect more from the general story of the book. It did feel repetitive but if you do like teen mysteries, you will enjoy this.
