This book is about revelations, family and love. What an emotional rollercoaster. First book by this author and certainly won't be my last. There wasn't a time where I couldn't stop thinking about it.

This was the first book I have read from this author, and I am looking forward to reading more!
The storyline was full of twists and turns, which is a big thing for me. I am not a fan of being able to predict what was going to happen at the end of the book. This book had me thinking I had it all figured out a few times, only to find out that each time I was wrong.

This is an emotional family drama, where everyone had and kept their own secrets. This book had you thinking that this was the only perfect family that had ever existed.

This book was a very fast read for me, as it had me hooked from the beginning. Looking forward to the next book!

A gripping book from start to finish, lots of twist and turns. A family party brings many long held secrets out. Very enjoyable.

I am a huge fan of Julia Roberts' books. They are gripping and unputdownable, as well as characters you become fond of.
But the main reason I adore her writing, is the way she is able to whack that emotional punch. She gets to the heart of whichever issue she is addressing in the novel, and we live those feelings and worries with them, as we wrestle the morals alongside them. I feel that's what truly sets her apart as a wonderful writer.
This was the embodiment of all those skills and I was not disappointed.

This one had me hooked from the very beginning. It is an emotional family drama with lots of secrets, told through multiple characters. Brilliant style of writing. Would highly recommend.

I enjoyed the story but it ended up so underwhelming. What on earth was that ending??? Just nope. That was just so unrealistic even for fiction.

Steve and Melissa are blessed with Ruby, their only child, their miracle baby. At Ruby's eighteenth birthday party, Melissa was about to give a speech when a mysterious slip of paper fall out from between the pages.

On the slip written "SHE'S NOT WHO YOU THINK SHE IS".

Melissa is desperate to know who could possibly leave a note on purpose and what could that possibly mean?

Everyone has a secret that they kept for years. Could the revelation of their secrets result in either a breakdown or a strengthening of their relationships?

"𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 π’•π’˜π’ π’ˆπ’Šπ’‡π’•π’” π’˜π’† 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 π’ˆπ’Šπ’—π’† 𝒐𝒖𝒓 π’„π’‰π’Šπ’π’…π’“π’†π’: 𝒐𝒏𝒆 π’Šπ’” 𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 π’Šπ’” π’˜π’Šπ’π’ˆπ’”."

I got hooked from the very beginning. The relationship between marriages, friends, and family. Bonding and trusting takes a lot of effort. Being honest is all we need to do. It's all because we care so much for the love of our life. "π‘Ίπ’π’Žπ’†π’•π’Šπ’Žπ’†π’” π’”π’π’Žπ’† 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒆𝒇𝒕 𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒐𝒍𝒅".
This is definitely one of the stories that touches my heart. I enjoyed reading it very much.

Thank you so much @bookouture @netgalley @juliagroberts for this digital ARC. It's a great pleasure to read #mydaughterslies

Melissa is about to deliver a speech on her daughter's eighteenth birthday party, when she finds a slip of paper in her speech. It says, " She is not who you think she is". Her entire world comes crashing down as she is forced to question everything she knows about her daughter, her perfect daughter, Ruby.

This family drama resonated close to my heart. All the characters, especially the women, Melissa, Ruby, Sadie, Melissa's mom, Megan, have so many layers, and are so richly developed, they seemed very real. In this book, there's no right or wrong, but it portrays how everyone makes mistakes, big or small. Families are built on these mistakes, or how well one can hide them.

What set this book apart from many family dramas which portray a dysfunctional family behind a perfect facade was that this family is genuinely perfect. True, there are mistakes made, but those mistakes are owed up and forgiven. Issues are dealt with as a team. There are no vile characters, only very ordinary ones, which makes this book so heartwarming. I loved how set on a premise of lies, this book was all about trust and friendship and family ties.

There are some twists and turns, but over all this is a medium paced book, and has a happy ending. I lived reading this one and recommend it to all lovers of drama and mysteries.

A huge thanks to bookouture, netgalley and the author for this ARC copy in return for my free and honest review.

It is Ruby’s 18th birthday party, and it is rather a glamorous event. Planned by her beloved Aunt Sadie, Ruby’s father was supposed to present a speech in Ruby’s behalf, but he asks Ruby’s mother Melissa to deliver the speech instead. Melissa heads to the podium, begins looking at the pages of the speech she had written for her husband, and she finds a note that states: β€œShe is not who you think she is.”

Was the note about Ruby? Or was it about Melissa? In dual timeline fashion (2023 and 2004), a slow reveal of secrets and lies is uncovered. More than that, the way that it was written with more than one POV enhances the drama in this compelling story. This domestic drama by Julia Roberts had some intriguing twists, surprising me more than once.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

"She's not who you think she is..."
But...
"Some secrets are best left untold."

Not going to lie...HAH...nothing but whopper lies in the often intense My Daughter's Lies by red herring brilliantly misleading author Julia Roberts. This book left me emotionally drained with my brain aching when there were no more secrets to tell...I think.

Melissa is so proud of Ruby at her 18th birthday party. It took years to conceive but it never happened again. It just means Melissa and her husband give all their love to sweet Ruby. So then, why mixed up in the notes for her speech at the party, there's a hand written note with the cryptic scrawled message, "She's not who you think she is."

Is the "she" Ruby or someone else? Is the note for her, or her husband who was originally going to give the speech? Who wrote it?

I am telling you in just the first chapter I had more questions than Melissa. As more characters are introduced, like Melissa's best friend Sadie, Ruby's bestie, and Melissa's mother Linda, you realize the note could be about any of them and written by anybody.

This is a mother daughter drama but it's slowly revealed that it isn't necessarily just about Melissa and Ruby. I was fooled at first but had a few things figured out before the end.

I had so much fun reading this and the author pulled me in right from the start. The one thing that touched my heart was that with all the lies and secrets it was never malicious (though the person who wrote the note did so out of an angry hurt). Mostly it was all about being protective, scared of losing the ones you love, and asking for forgiveness instead of permission after the fact. Right or wrong, a daughter's lies are only as powerful as her mother's secrets.

I received a free copy of this book from #bookouture via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

A great read for those who love female led stories about love and loss and lifelong friendships. This time we meet a mother who is about to celebrate her daughter’s 18th birthday party and during the speeches she finds a note which turns her world upside down. As friendships are put to the test and lies and secrets appear around every corner life may never be the same. A great summer read!!

My Daughter's Lies by Julia Roberts is a deep dive into the lies told within a small family unit, the ones which they admit to and the ones they don't. Admitting to some will strengthen the bonds, others will likely sever them entirely

A note falls out of a speech at Chloe's 18th birthday party. Her mother Melissa, has agreed to do the speech in place of her husband as he really did not want to speak in front of the gathered crowd. "She is not who you think she is". Ever the professional radio presenter, Melissa carries on with the speech and celebrations, but she needs to find out who put this notein the speech for her husband Steve to see and why

Julia Roberts has written a novel that is utterly relatable and reflective of soceity, especially in times of great challenges (the chapter headers are dates in 2023 and 2004) The story is multiple POV and it works really well in respect of the storyline. The key point for me, which daughter is lying and in fact, is anybody not lying?

An outstanding narrative on the lengths people will go to to create and keep their family. Brilliant!

Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and Julia Roberts for this fantastci ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

5 Stars from me!

Have you ever wondered what secrets the other members of your family hold close to their heart? As parents, you think you really know your kids, but in all honesty, do you really? You try to surround your kids with other friends and family that will have a positive impact, but of course, they hold their own secrets too. As parents, of course, you also hold your own truths that you hope are never revealed.

In the book, My Daughter's Lies by Julia Roberts, a mother finds a note right before giving a speech for her daughter's 18th birthday that says, "She's not who she thinks she is." Wouldn't that freak you out? Who left the note? Who is the "she" in the note? Do you just act like nothing happened right before you give your speech?

The book goes back and forth between the past and the party. Roberts does a wonderful job with characterization in her book. You feel like you really know the characters well by the end, and I appreciate this in any book. There wasn't a character that I didn't like or that I thought was useless to the story.

I kept picturing the mother as the actress Julia Roberts while I was reading. No, she isn't the one who wrote the book, but the image just stuck in my head. I really felt for the mother who wanted the best for her one and only child. Mothers and teenage daughters can truly butt heads, while at the same time connecting through a special bond. This book is about the bond within a family; the love between best friends, and the secrets that can tie all of them together. There is also the intrigue about that darn note!

I really enjoyed this book and gave it five stars. It held my interest from beginning to end. I would definitely recommend it.

Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley, and Julia Roberts for sharing a free copy with me. This review is based on my honest review.

This was a really good read, another author to add to my rapidly growing favourite authors list!

Melissa and Steve’s daughter, Ruby, has grown up in the blink of an eye and now they are at a party to celebrate her 18th Birthday. Steve is due to give a speech but backs out at the last minute leaving Melissa to read it. However, when she picks up the pages in readiness to read it a note falls out saying β€œSHE’S NOT WHO YOU THINK SHE IS” in bright red ink. Melissa gives the speech word perfect, but the note is on her mind. She is desperate to find out who wrote the note and who the β€œshe” is who is mentioned in it. As she starts to try and figure it out secrets and lies start tumbling out about everyone close to her, she in turn, is desperate to hide a very big secret of her own. Will Melissa find out what she needs to know, and more importantly will she manage to keep her own secret hidden?!

As I said above a new author to me and one I will definitely look out for in the future. I found myself liking Melissa very quickly although I was unsure how I felt about Sadie. I didn’t like Linda, Melissa’s mum, to start with as I felt she was a little hypercritical telling Melissa that she was spoiling Ruby when Linda was doing just that when Ruby visited. However, I did come round to her character by the end of the book, but I will say no more as this is a spoiler free review!! I really enjoyed hearing from the three different points of view, Melissa, Ruby, and Sadie and thought it told the story very well. I was thinking about this book even when I wasn’t reading it which, for me, is always the sign of a good book. I guessed Melissa’s secret quite early on in the story, but it didn’t ruin the plot for me as the other big secret definitely gobsmacked me as I had fallen for all the red herrings the author had put out, so great job Julia Roberts, I just love a surprise.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story, and I would recommend it for any fans of gripping and emotional family drama’s. I look forward to seeing what Julia Roberts writes next.

Thank you to NetGalley, Julia Roberts and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.

At first this seems like a psychological thriller but it is an emotional family drama with lots of secrets. With secrets come lies, betrayal and backstabbing that threatens to destroy their perfect family.

The book opens with the family celebrating Ruby's 18th birthday. Ruby has always been a perfect daughter. As she is getting ready to propose a toast, her mother, Melissa comes across a shocking note that says 'she is not who you think she is'. Who has written the note and what does it mean?

Told in multiple PoVs and over nonlinear timelines, we come across secrets that every character has managed to hide over the years making them realistically flawed. As a mother myself, the story deeply resonated with me about how we as parents are protective of our children until we have to finally let them go.

This is my first book by the author and I loved the way Julia packed an emotional punch while also keeping me hooked to learn more about the secrets and how they played a part in the family dynamics, bringing everything and everyone together with a satisfying conclusion.

Thank you @bookouture for having me on the #booksontour and @netgalley and the author @juliagroberts for an eARC to read and review.

Every book that I have read by this author has been superb!

My Daughter's Lies by Julia Roberts was no different, especially, as Julia always writes from her heart, and this book will have you hooked from the beginning till the very end. My daughters lies, is about your children and what happens when you have to let them go. But, with any family, there's always secrets and we all know what happens to secrets..........we all try and keep locked deep in our special place, but they always have a way of coming out. So, on Ruby's 18th Birthday the secret that has been hidden for all those years starts to bubble and comes to the surface!

WoW, this book is so good. I loved it

I highly recommend it.

Big Thank you to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for my Arc.

My Daughter’s Lies is an intriguing and suspenseful read. There are lots of revelations throughout that act as red herrings as you try to figure out the mystery of the note. I wish the twist of the note had been more thrilling but the shocks came throughout the book instead. Some of the twists I predicted but some truly managed to surprise me. This book will keep you guessing!
It is a fast paced read and I finished the book in one sitting. I didn’t want to put the book down!

Loved the storyline and kept me guessing up to the end. With their daughter about to turn 18 they want to give her a great party to celebrate. Ruby isn't so keen as a birthday party they did for her years ago ended up with hardly anyone turning up. She gave in and planning went ahead.
Melissa her mum went up to give a speech and she found a note hidden amongst her papers saying β€œShe’s not who you think she is”. She has no idea what it means. Does someone know her secret or is this about her husband or her daughter. Time will only tell.
Great story from beginning to end.
