Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this audio ARC.

I adore January LaVoy’s narration. She is a master of telling the story and making it real. Her voice always makes me think I am listening to a friend.

How does Nora Roberts do it? She weaves such masterpieces together and so many! I enjoyed myself with this one. I kind of want a dog named Bunk now.

This is another book that I could do vividly imagine as a movie. Tragic but ultimately so many twists and turns that I was so into it. I couldn’t stop! I love how they preyed on each other back and forth, each learning their strengths and weaknesses. The old love and an adorable single dad romance just felt like icing on the cake, honestly.

This book works well in the audiobook version. It's interesting enough that it held my attention, but light enough not to hold it too much to listen while driving!
I found this story to be a little superficial. It was enjoyable, but it just felt like there was so much more that could be discovered.
Maybe it's not as detailed in world-building, or character-building as I would prefer.

I have always loved a good Nora Roberts novel and the more I read the more I appreciate her skill in bringing a story to life. A Nora Roberts book is truly a master class of the subtleties of writing bringing nuance and depth to characters while breathing life into the setting until you feel that you are a part of the lives of the main characters. With nail biting suspense and moments so richly beautiful they’ll bring you to your knees, “Mind Games” will have you longing to be a part of Thea’s world.

The story begins as twelve year old Thea and ten year old Rem are dropped off at Grammie’s place to spend two glorious weeks of the summer where they celebrate in the joys of being together again. The idyllic annual holiday is shattered when Thea has nightmarish visions while sleeping of a vicious, cold, and calculating crime hundreds of miles away. The result is life changing. Despite everything, Thea, Rem, and Lucy persevere, carving out a life of joy and satisfaction over the years even as she battles to close the door on her gift before it’s too late. “Mind Games” is a heart aching, gut wrenching psychological thriller with a side of romance that weaves a spell around you as you fall in love with the Kentucky Appalachians, Thea, Rem, Lucy, Ty, and Braydon. Audio narrator January LaVoy was absolutely brilliant in her abilities to differentiate each of the characters and her narrative style. I alternated between the ebook and audio book, absolutely loving both.

This is truly the most unique book I’ve ever read by Nora Roberts. I don’t know how she continues to do it, but I’m grateful for every new story. It should come as no surprise to anyone that this is a 5 star read for me - Nora Roberts is the Queen of romantic suspense!

For Thea and her brother Rem, the two weeks they spend every summer with Grammie is their favorite time. They love being with her and the many things they get to do. This year however, tragedy strikes that will change their lives forever.

Thea has the “sight” - she has always been able to see and feel things that can’t be explained. She is very private and protective of her gift. After the family tragedy, Thea saw and felt things that she will never forget. She also has a connection to the person responsible for the family tragedy that she didn’t ask for or didn’t want.

The story plays out as Thea and her family build lives that they love and are proud of. Their community is supportive of Thea’s gift as it runs in the women of her family. Enter her neighbor Ty and his son Bray, and Thea’s life continues to flourish.

But she still has the terrible connection to the man who changed her life, and we get to see how she takes back her power. The amazing cast of supporting characters play key roles in helping Thea build the future that she so wants for herself. I loved every one of them. Family is so important in this story, and I loved it.

There may be some trigger warnings for some readers. Check those out before you start.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Macmillan Audio for the wonderful opportunity to read and listen to this incredible book! Queen Nora Roberts is at the top of her game once again. Also, January LaVoy is a phenomenal narrator, and she is absolutely perfect for this book! This terrific read/listen releases on May 21st - pick it up for the perfect start to your summer reading!

5⭐ (audio) I listen to tons of audiobooks, and as long as the narrator doesn't pull me out of the story, I'm generally not picky. LaVoy, however, does an amazing job with this story, pulling you in with all the character voices, making you feel like you are experiencing the story rather than listening to someone tell it. Excellent!

5⭐ (story) As they do each June, the Foxes have driven the winding roads of Appalachia to drop off their children for a two-week stay at their grandmother’s. Here, twelve-year-old Thea can run free and breathe in the smells of pine and fresh bread and Grammie’s handmade candles. But as her parents head back to suburban Virginia, they have no idea they’re about to cross paths with a ticking time bomb. Back in Kentucky, Thea and her grandmother Lucy both awaken from the same nightmare. And though the two have never discussed the special kind of sight they share, they know as soon as their tearful eyes meet that something terrible has happened.

Nora Roberts is one of my new favorite authors. I love how deep her characters are, how well-done the themes and the writing are. Her plot is always complicated and fascinating, drawing you in and pulling you along. This was a beautiful and heart wrenching tale of life and death. Not only that, but of living. Beautiful!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced audio copy in exchange for an honest review!

As a devoted fan of Nora Roberts, I eagerly delved into her latest novel, Mind Games. While I did enjoy the book, I must admit that it didn't captivate me as much as some of her previous works. Roberts' talent for crafting well-developed characters shines through once again, but there were a few aspects of the story that left me wanting more.

One of the areas where I felt the book fell short was the excessive focus on Thea's childhood and her "gift." While it is important to establish a character's background, I found myself growing a bit bored with the prolonged exploration of Thea's past. It felt like the pacing suffered as a result, and I longed for the story to move forward. Additionally, the "mind games" between Thea and her parents' killer failed to fully engage me. I think that part just kind of missed the mark for me.

On a positive note, I had the opportunity to listen to an advanced audiobook version of Mind Games, courtesy of Macmillan audio and Netgalley. The narration by January Lavoy was, as always, exceptional. Lavoy's talent for bringing characters to life is undeniable, and she did a fantastic job overall. However, I must admit that the narration for Braden became a bit grating. While it was fitting for his character, the whiny and demanding tone started to wear on me after a while.

Vivid and emotional storytelling. Mind Games by Nora Roberts tells the raw and riveting story of Thea as she navigates a supernatural gift that runs through the females in her family. Unfortunately this gift becomes a curse when Thea witnesses the murder of her parents through the eyes of the killer. After the horrific murder, Thea and the killer are inextricably linked and Thea must learn how to block out the man who she put behind bars. Nora Roberts’s writing on how Thea experienced the death of her parents was written with care, genuine emotion and true pain. While often emotionally raw, Roberts weaves hope and enduring love throughout the story. I found myself not wanting it to end.

I received an arc of this audiobook through NetGalley, the publisher and author.

I gave this book 4 stars.

This was the first book I’ve read by Nora Roberts and I was not sure what to expect. I really enjoyed this book and thought it was different from any book I’ve ever read. It has it all, from thriller/murder, romance, family, and a paranormalish aspect. I like that it was very original and something I had never even heard about before, let alone read.

Lucy starts out as a child, and has a vision and sees her parents being murdered. She doesn’t realize she has the ability until her Grammie tells her it is something passed down in their family.

As Lucy grows up I love her tenacious, tough attitude but also kind and human. While she helped the killer get locked up when she was 12, he also has the same sight ability and they see eachother and communicate through that. Lucy had to come up with a mind game to help keep him out of her head. Things start to get scary and physical and she doesn’t quite understand all that is happening.

She also meets a single dad with a son who give her a chance at a normal life. I loved the book but this part was my favorite.

I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes thrillers, contemporary, or even romance. The whole book is just really good!

I don't think I'll ever get enough of Nora Roberts. I won't be able to stop thinking about this book for along time. I had the BEST time listening to this. First of all January LaVoy did an AMAZING job. She had me so engaged into this story. The first part of this book will definitely pull at your heartstrings. It's got the good, bad, beautiful, horrific, you name it. Nora wrote it so wonderfully and you felt all the emotion and rawness. The second and third part of this book is beautiful . You really get to see there lives coming together. Thea will still be dealing with her past but she will fight to over come it. The characters in this book are absolutely amazing and well written. I loved this family. You felt like they were apart of you family. This book will give you a little bit of a thriller, mystery, romance and even some magic like moments. I had such a great time with this book and I could go back and listen to it again because it was that good! I would HIGHLY recommend this book!!

Thank You NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to listening to this ARC for my honest opinion.

I love to read about people with psychic gifts. I find the subject very fascinating. The fact that the criminal in Mind Games having the same gift as Thea and how he kept getting inside her head made this a riveting listen. So much happened in this book that I went from one emotion to another. I would love to find more books like this one. I also loved the narrator. I think she did the best child's voice I've heard in an audiobook. Fantastic job!

Thank you NetGalley!
I recently read identity and I really enojoyed it so much! It also ended on a crazy note and had a great epilogue!
So when I saw Mind Games available I had to request it! I was approved for the audio book and right at chapter 3-4 I was hooked ! The way the main characters connect through the mind is amazing ! 🥲 no spoilers u can tell pretty early on they do (: and from there everything took off and stood consistent, toward the middle things began to drag because she was building up the love interest relationship to main lady (: I do love everything about him and also where this story takes place visually my mind was so satisfied with this book as well! Nora is a great story teller and I had a lot of fun reading ! The ending was great but I think Identity takes this trophy for me they are mystery with a side of thrill and side of love ! I do recommend this if u like mystery, if u love thriller this isn’t as suspenseful as others .

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for my review.
This was an enjoyable listen, the narrator did good & the story kept me entertained. I would not classify this as a romance, more of a supernatural suspense. This is the first Nora Robert’s book I’ve listened to & I would listen again.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan audio for the audio version of this book.

I requested the book because I have enjoyed Nora Roberts in the past, I loved Vanishing Acts back in the day.

Nora Roberts sets up the story really well, with introductions to the characters and spends time helping you to get to know them. The first 20% was emotional, gripping with some suspense that hooked me. It took a while for the love interest to arrive, almost halfway into the book. That kind of took away from the romance aspect of the book which Nora Roberts is famous for. Her writing style is still easy to read and there is no doubt she is an amazing storyteller. I particularly like how she writes dialogue.
One issue I have was the whole psychic power and mind reading thing between Thea and RR. It got a little confusing at times and then at the end she stripped the man of his power. How? Did I miss how this was possible? Her career choice of a video game developer was kind of weird too. That seemed out of nowhere.

I was put off by all of the foul language and using God’s name repeatedly as a curse word. It just isn’t necessary and is distracting- maybe because January LaVoy did such an incredible job on the audio (as always) it’s hard to hear the swearing in her performance. The reading of the young child is a bit annoying too.

At the end of the book, Ty (the love interest) pretty much invites himself and kid to move in with Thea so he can use his house as a recording studio and house the musicians while they work. Considering they didn’t know each other THAT long it seemed the relationship advanced in a way that wasn’t that obvious to the reader. At least for me anyway.

I’m sure this book will do well, after all it is Nora Roberts, but I was expecting a bit more.

This may be one of my all-time favorite Nora Robert’s books. A strong woman, a dose of magic, a love story, a close-knit family and of course - some trouble.. Ray’s conclusion was satisfying, and of course we can’t diminish the ultimate conclusion - perfect!

Thank you NetGalley, MacMillan Audio, St. Martin's Press, and author Nora Roberts for the advance copy of Mrs. Roberts page turning novel, Mind Games. This highly anticipated novel by bestselling author Nora Roberts adds to her 250+ repertoire that fans like myself will easily devour from beginning to end. There is good reason Mrs. Roberts has a loyal following of readers spanning decades, and is one of the most successful and prolific authors of her generation. She once stated in an interview that she writes 8 hours a day, even on vacation, and I always think of this when beginning one of her books. I admire how she empowers her strong female characters, and have been hooked for decades on the imagery and trilogies she continues to gift readers with. I was a bit thrown off as a good portion of Mind Games is told from a child’s POV, but audiobook narrator January LaVoy engaged me as John and Cora Fox head to Cora’s mother home in the Appalachian hills of Kentucky with their two young children, Thea and Rem. The children look forward to their annual June visit with their maternal grandmother, Lucy, and this year is special as the kids anticipcate spending two weeks with their adored maternal grandmother, while their parents return home to Virginia. This is the beginning of the story told from alternating POVs that are at times difficult to follow. Soon after the Foxes arrive back home in VA, Thea and Lucy wake from a horrific nightmare where they witness a horrific crime (especially for a 12 year old Thea) John and Cora’s murder. Thea has inherited the “gift” the psychic ability to see into other peoples minds, passed through her maternal bloodline, but it is becoming evident her gift is already stronger than Lucy’s. Through her “gift" that generations of women on her maternal side share, Thea witnesses the horrific events occurring to her parents back home in Virginia in real time. Readers soon learn Thea also possesses the ability to see the crime through the mind and eyes of the psychopathic murderer, Riggs. Her grandmother Lucy also witnesses the murder via the same "gift,” and immediately contacts police in Kentucky hoping they are both wrong in this traumatic vision. With Thea’s supernatural memory recall, she works with a sketch artist and police are quickly able to capture and imprison murderer Riggs.
Thea becomes the main female character as the story follows her from that fateful, traumatic loss of her parents at age 12 until she becomes a video game designer at age 27. As the years go by, Briggs meets Thea via their shared mental "gift” as he plots his revenge against Thea from prison. This was a difficult premise for me. I did enjoy the character of strong willed Lucy as she raises Thea and Rem in Kentucky. Lucy is loving, hard working, and instills values in her grandchildren nobly. The storyline of Thea and Rem’s parents, and their relationships with their own parents, was devastating. I found the plot and dialogue with murderer Riggs challenging to engage with as he seeks her out mentally to torment her and she has to battle to keep him out of her thoughts. As a fully employed adult, Thea can work from home developing video games, so she decides to return to Kentucky to build her life there. She is thrilled to learn her crush Tyler, a former member of popular rock and roll band Code Red, moves into his great-grandmother's house down the lane from Thea, and their romantic relationship ensues. Ty is now writing music and raising his (annoying) son Bray, who in my opinion did not bond with Thea or bring anything to the plot. When Tyler reappears and becomes a MMC, I enjoyed his character and relationship with Thea, but things between them develop very quickly as Thea still has to deal with Ray Riggs, which in their final face off at the very end occurs much too quickly in my opinion. I adored Thea's dog, Bunk! Overall This is an easy from a well-loved author.

Thank you @macmillan.audio and @netgalley for my complimentary audiobook. My thoughts are my own.

Twelve-year-old Thea has a gift. She has a special sight, that allows her to see into the minds of others. She can discern what they think and what they see. But one night, while young Thea is visiting her grandmother in Kentucky, her parents are murdered in Virginia. Thea wakes from a nightmare in which she had watched her parents’ murder. Thea is able to give the police detailed information that enables them to catch the killer. Thea and her brother live with their grandmother in Kentucky, but meanwhile, the killer, who also has the same sight as Thea, haunts her mind and threatens her.

I loved the overall storyline in this one, but it is definitely a slow-burn, as A LOT of time is devoted to twelve-year-old Thea and her younger brother as they grow up in the mountains. However, Nora Roberts tells a great story and I was enthralled from the beginning. Just as I was beginning to wonder if the characters would EVER grow up, they finally did, about halfway through the book! I enjoyed the adult Thea as she comes into her own and meets her childhood crush, rock star Ty Brennan, who happens to move in next door. Ty has a young son, Bray, and Thea’s relationship with Bray is developed extensively as well. I would definitely have preferred less time to have been devoted to Thea’s childhood as she made soap and candles and learned how to cook at her grandmother’s hand, but I did enjoy the story.

January LaVoy, as always, does an excellent job with the narration. She manages characters of various ages and dialects with ease.

Listen to this if you enjoy:

*Strong family ties

*Descriptive stories

*Strong female main characters

*A touch of romance

This is a good story. Not exactly a thriller and not a romance either. Just a good story. Thea’s gift is pretty incredible as is her family. Her connection with Ray was disturbing and sad. The very end was a tad cheesy but otherwise an enjoyable listening experience. Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC (or ALC)
