I really enjoyed learning about the art of hosting a memorable Southern get together! The pictures and descriptions were amazing. This makes a perfect gift, or a book to put on your coffee table.

This book covers a lot of ground when it comes to entertaining. The author gives great prep tips from setting the table to floral arrangements that complement the occasion or celebration. Her advice on how much to prep per serving for food and drink was helpful in solving one of the dilemmas host/hostesses tend to face about how much is enough with a room for error so you won’t leave guests hungry.

The menus keep the number of dishes in line with the entertainment goals and having a variety of protein, side, dessert and drink combination is very helpful. Several dishes have variations that you can try to keep your food selection fresh for reoccurring events or guests.

The pictures add to the vibe of easy southern hosting and pictures showing the food layout and table setting ideas are a bonus.

Absolutely delicious recipes! I tried numerous from here for family get-togethers with my family from the south and they all said it tasted like home! I highly recommend, especially with the holidays coming up.

The checklists and tables in this book are brilliantly done. They take it from a standard cookbook of Southern Cooking, and transforms it into an entertaining guidebook. The recipes themselves aren't anything super exciting- pretty much what I expected. Highly recommended for libraries where cook books (and cook book clubs!) are popular.

If you are not southern, or raised southern, this would be very helpful in hosting a "Southern Get-Together". If you were raised "southern" you already have this generational knowledge. Some fun twist on recipes you have made before.

This would be a good gift for your southern-hostest-wannabe Yankee friends.

Southerners are known for their hospitality, and they seem to be taught from birth how to entertain. Those of us who aren’t southern can learn their secrets by picking up a wonderful new book, Southern Get-Togethers: A Guide to Hosting Unforgettable Gatherings―Plus Entertaining Inspiration, Tips, and 100+ Recipes, written by southerner, Kelsey Barnard Clark. This cookbook includes dozens of great hints on planning and carrying out successful get togethers and parties. It also includes plenty of decorating hints. The book is divided up into various menus, which can be followed as is or can ignite the imagination to make the menus your own.

The recipes included aren’t necessarily southern; rather they represent cultures all over the globe. However, the southern charm shows through in the details.

The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions. While all the recipe aren’t quick and easy, they are written in such a way that both beginning and advanced cooks can make them picture perfect successfully. There are also beautiful photographs of not only every recipe, but also tablescapes and decorating helps.

The cookbook is well written and fun to read. New ideas will run through readers’ heads, and anyone who needs help when entertaining will want to pick up this cookbook and use it often.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Southern Get-Togethers is the second book for Kelsey Barnard Clark, Top Chef Season 16 winner. This is more than just a cookbook. It is a primer full of practical tips for entertaining including building a party-ready pantry to knowing the right amount of food and drinks for your gathering. The chapters work through daytime meals, informal pot lucks, sports gatherings, formal dinner parties and everything in between them. Each menu contains flexibility for purchased or made from scratch options to suit all levels of skill and available time. With the focus on Southern cuisine with a French flair, the recipes are familiar with a fresh, unique twist. Great gift for a newlywed or a house warming.

Southern Get-Togethers is a combination of so many things I believe in, with the author's belief that there is celebration to be had in the every day and always room for more at the table (bonus points for her reference to "Crowded Table" by The Highwomen!). This cookbook is full of absolutely *gorgeous* photography and layouts with stunning use of color. There are a lot of solid "common-sense" tips for hosts AND for guests that are seemingly not always common-sense these days (I was raised by 80's church ladies in the Midwest so some things us Yankees and Southern entertainers can definitely come together on here! :)). This makes for a fantastic primer for people just starting to entertain (or wanting to level up), helping take the guesswork--and some of the stress!--out of experiences and avoiding some of the more awkward or "AITA" situations that could pop up. Not "just" a home chef and host, Clark offers a lot of advice and tables from her personal catering experience as well.

Many recipes are not personally my taste, or won't do for allergies in our family/framily, but are *beautifully* presented and accessible. I really appreciate the variety in skill level and from-scratch recipes or recipes with shortcuts, and the recipes definitely don't skimp on flavor at all. I'll be keeping this one in mind for housewarming or wedding gifts in the future.

My thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the opportunity to preview this title in exchange for my honest review!

Setting the scene...

This book focuses on setting the entire scene, from table, food, flowers, decorations and the whole overall vibe.
It breaks down many occasions with ideas, tips and food with great photography to accompany and provide visual detail.
Recommend.

Let me begin by saying this is a beautiful book. There is a great deal of information in here that is very specific and provides a guide for those wishing to celebrate with friends and/or family in a certain fashion. In some ways these proposed parties are not necessarily accessible to many individuals. It was fun to read, however.
Many of the recipes were delectable and mouthwatering, but this book was not one that I would add to my permanent collection. Thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the advance copy. All thoughts are my own.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. It is a beautiful cookbook with recipes I want to try from top chef winner Kelsey Barnard Clark.

I enjoyed reading the reviews of this as much as the book itself, LOL!

Yeah--it's definitely written for a higher-end clientele on many levels. Ingredients, lifestyle, alcohol consumption, etc.

I was a little bummed at two (by my count) unnecessary instances of swearing, and the emphasis on alcohol. Clark referenced mocktails at one point near the beginning of the book, but every beverage recipe in the book was alcoholic; disappointing for me as I quit drinking 5 years ago and would have really enjoyed seeing some mocktail versions or curated zero-proof drinks.

But the pictures were great, and the menu ideas look fab. Like Clark, I really appreciate checklists, and this book provides that--along with (albeit bougie) inspiration in spades. Having recently moved to the South, I enjoyed learning more about the topic from her perspective.

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
