I received a free ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
This updated version of Anthony Tassinello’s cookbook is a great resource for anyone interested in wood fired pizza, or just pizza in general. There’s a lot of good information on setting up your oven and the types available for a home cook, as well as tips and tricks for success.
Even if you don’t have a wood fired pizza oven there are lots of delicious recipes and topping combinations to help the reader create delicious pizza at home!
There could be more photos of the finished products but don’t discount this resource because of that!
You had me at pizza! Okay, as you can guess I am a lover of pizza. I don't have an actual wood fired stove but hope to one day. For now I can just modify these amazing recipes to use in my electric pizza oven.
I love that book started out with a nice introduction to wood-fired ovens instead of just diving into recipes to use in it. It is packed full of information to help someone looking to have a wood-fired oven or someone who already has one. It had everything from how to build one, caring for it, how to safely use it to the things you will need for it!
Now the recipes, they are awesome! I love that there was so much variety and things that really sound amazing in this recipe book. There was a variety of dough recipes as well as sauce recipes to use. After that there are so many different pizza recipes to choose from. They even included things like calzones as well as other non pizza items to make in the oven!
The picture that are in the cookbook are beautiful, however I do wish that there were more. I am a very visual person and can never get enough pictures. The book itself is laid out very nicely, easy to navigate and very easy to use when cooking.
If you are a pizza lover or a wood-fire stove owner this is a great book for you!
Thanks to NetGalley for access to an e-arc.
I do not have a wood fired oven. I would like one and have wanted one for over a decade, but it simply isn't practical until I do something about my yard. I do however, really enjoy pizza.
I requested this cook from NetGalley as I am looking for a pizza dough recipe that allows me use Red Fife and/or Einkhorn flour and doesn't come out like a cracker. My first attempt at the whole wheat pizza dough recipe in this book was not like a cracker! I am pretty sure I should have let it rise on the counter longer before forming it. I have been enjoying the frozen "elevated" dough balls I made asI was not having a pizza party and making 10 pizzas at onece is unlikely to be something I ever do.
The recipes are very clear. I recommened readding through all the steps to understand where there is waiting for things to rise as there is a lot of that! Nice variety of toppings and I like the sauces. For those who actually have wood fired ovens there is a section that goes into recipes that are not pizza for your oven.
Recommended.
Loving having this cookbook since I just purchased a pizza oven - so many great tips and recipes! cannot wait to go through them all
The Essential Wood-Fired Pizza Cookbook by Anthony Tassinello has 80+ Recipes and Techniques from his Wood-Fired Oven. First, can I mention the pictures? They are amazing! Clear, crisp, and inspirational; I just wish there were more. There is a part one and part two to this cookbook. Part one covers all the basics and how-to, while part two has all the magic and tasty goodness. You are covered from the ideas, the dough, the sauce, the ingredients and the step-by-step directions. Most of the recipes are creative explorations of flavors and not necessarily traditional (although pepperoni is included first). There are some bonus recipes at the end which are not pizza, but just as inviting.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
At the beginning it gave a good introduction and describing the wood oven. There was recipes for different doughs, pizzas, and some drinks. I found several recipes and ideas I would love to try. The directions were not in quick/short bullet points but more detailed.
The only thing that I would have liked to see more of is pictures of what the recipe is making. There were a couple, but when I see a picture of what the recipe makes I'm more likely to make it.
Great recipe ideas, loved the ones I tried out. Well worth looking through and using over the summer or whenever you feel like pizza!
I really think this is an excellent cookbook to get if you have a wood-fired oven! And if you don't have one, I'm sure looking through these recipes will 100% convince you to get one! The Essential Wood-Fired Pizza Cookbook will give you exactly what you'd expect from the title and honestly a quite bit more. I loved how this book starts with getting you comfortable to use your wood-fired oven and then moves on advice on the how to host the perfect pizza night. It's a great way to make someone excited and ready for the recipes. And wow are there are lot of great recipes! From different types of pizza to different types of dough, and even more. There's so much to try, and I really was very impressed by how well the recipes were written. They are all very easy to follow. I appreciated the extra tips for things like prepping, getting ingredients, etc that some of the recipes had. It made me feel like I was actually being taught how to do this by someone who wants me to get the best results I can, not just mindlessly following steps. Also, the photography in this cook book is amazing and is genuinely such a great feature!
Thank you to NetGalley, Callisto Publishing, and Anthony Tassinello for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This is a very thorough and complete book on different types of wood fire pizza ovens and recipes. Although I don’t have a wood fire oven to cook my pizzas on, just a pizza stone but I still found it very helpful. Nice gourmet recipes even recipes for salads and drinks. Wonderful ideas for entertaining guests too.
