This was my first by this author, and I think it might be my last. I wasn’t a fan of the writing style or voice, not to mention some of the questionable beginning things. When it can med own to it I found myself trying to speed read to get to the end.
The story had a really cute concept that drew me in, but the writing style threw me out of the story so much that I struggled to trudge through it. I wanted to like this story, and may try and come back to it down the road.
As far as erotica goes, this was hot, the steam was there and I dug it. However, I was not really a fan of the book, I did not love that the love interest fat shamed her in high school and was a bully, *spoilers we all saw coming* it was of course a misunderstanding but that's not really explained until right before the end of the book, I wish it had been cleared up at the beginning or just not included in the first place. I found some of the book charming and funny, but a lot of it felt very juvenile and if it weren't for the explicit sexual situations, I honestly would have pegged this as YA.
First and foremost, the cover!!! Love it so much! I love a book that features a FMC that is plus sized. That got an immediate check! Then I saw the raccoon and fell in love. I mean how can you not love little trash pandas?! And of course the MMC and noticing his werewolf nails. I picked this one up right before Halloween and it was a great supernatural story. There was wit, steam, a witch and werewolf. How much more could you ask for?! The plot was well written, as were the spicy scenes. I'm a fan of best friends to enemies to second chance lovers. A cute and spooky read, can't wait to read the second book in the series.
2.5⭐️
I don’t know how I feel about this book, it had its moments but overall felt so silly and crazy. It started off interesting and with a decent plot surrounding Cassie becoming a witch and helping her former friend, Sean, who is now a werwolf. But first I couldn’t believe she would let Sean back into her life after he hurt her so badly. Like she forgave him way too easily. Then the plot eventually got lost in a lust filled haze where there was just so much of them thinking about sex and then having sex. I’m a fan of a smutty book as much as the next person, but I guess I just wasn’t expecting it this much in this book, nor to have this much miscommunication surrounding it. Cassie and Sean could not properly communicate their feelings and lust for each other and it started to annoy me. By the end I didn’t really care for Cassie or Sean.
Overall, this book had its moments but the characters kind of ruined it for me.
Cassandra Camberwell returns to Hollow Brook intending to clear out her late
grandmother’s house, not expecting her former best friend Seth Brubaker. He had tormented her in high school, and she's sure he plans to do so now. But he's actually a werewolf and thinks she’s the witch that will ease his suffering. Because Cassie can't trust him anymore, Seth will teach her about magic in exchange for the potions he needs. That seems fair until they're with a do-or-die mating bond. They're determined not to give in to it, but maybe it's not so bad...
We see the actual devastating and final humiliation that Seth had dealt in high school, and anyone who had ever been bullied will know how horrible it had felt, especially after years of friendship. When Seth shows up at her grandmother's home desperate for the potions her grandmother used to make, Cassie sees part of the transformation for herself and understands his motives for being there. She once concocted odd recipes as a child when she spent time with her grandmother, but stopped long ago. Her magic comes out through cooking and baking, and Seth encourages her to pick it back up. He also introduces her to world of magical creatures and beings that live in the world, some of which are dangerous.
This is at once a second chance romance and a friends to lovers story. Before the humiliation at the talent show, Seth and Cassie were best friends. They fall back into that same rhythm easily, and take refuge in the fact they can talk to each other about the weirdness of magic. He's protective of her, especially when old bullies resurface, and his feelings for her are revealed. Both are utter dorks in general, making reference to movies and comics, and have an easy camaraderie.
Thank you to NetGalley for this copy.
This book is like a friends to enemies. Then when her grandmother dies its back to friends than to lovers. Her grandmother dies and she finds her old friend sneaking in in the middle of the night. Secrets get told and she finds she is not some plus size normal girl. He has been in love with her forever but she doesn't think he can actually love her because of her size.
This book had me laughing my butt off.it was such a fun read. Everyone needs to stop what they are doing and get this book.
dnf 34%. I tired for over a month to get through this book and I just can't force myself to pick it back up. I'm not enjoying the characters or the story, so I have to stop.
Enemies to lovers, supernatural, and a plus sized FMC. This book has a lot of tropes I love, and it was a light read that I really enjoyed.
I loved the groveling, and I really loved watching Cassie grow into her newly found power.
I loved the idea of this book, but the follow through was disappointing. The plot fell flat for me and didn't all pull together in the end. The bullying element didn't make much sense, his reasoning/excuse and I wanted Cassandra to be a bit more mature and act her age. There were some cringy elements and writing that had me wanting to put this book down. I wish there would have been more depth between the relationship.
Charlotte Stein is back! While I will always love her earlier erotic romances, this paranormal romance with Stein’s trademark wit worked immensely well for me. It’s quirky, delightful and Cassandra is a classic Stein heroine, aka awkward, sarcastic and horny. If you are looking for something completely different, give this a go!
The banter between Cassie and Seth? Gold. Their dialogue was my favorite part of the book.
Loved the dynamic of childhood best friends to rivals to lovers.
The spice was just right—enough to keep things interesting without being over the top.
Overall, How to Help a Hungry Werewolf is a fun, cozy read with a delightful mix of humor, magic, and romance.
I like Charlotte Stein, but I just could not get over the overall premise of this, whereby the 'enemies' part of the MC's relationship to the love interest is predicated on his evil bullying and fatphobia during high school. I couldn't get past it and root for them to end up together, so the book wasn't nearly as fun for me as it was meant to be.
A good book. This book is modern and different. Witty and funny. It was a fast read. I really enjoyed it. A must read!
Ideally, did not know what to expect when I started this book, but was pleasantly surprised with how spicy and raunchy this book turned out to be. Anyone who wants a monster romance with a twist needs to pick this up! It has plus size rep and a werewolf who lusts over his witch friend to the utmost degree.
I don't always *love* books that claim to be like some beloved series or other book, and Gilmore Girls is (IMO) a LOT to live up to.
While lacking in rapidfire whitty dialogue, this was a fun cozy read perfect for the spooky season. Honestly, a little spicier than expected, but I'm fine with that! This book was funny and fun overall and I enjoyed it!
I really liked When Grumpy Met Sunshine but I felt this didn't have the same banter. It was a cute read for spooky season.
I came for the charming paranormal romance in a small-town with supernatural shenanigans, and I was... whelmed. Yes, the chemistry between witch-in-training Cassie and werewolf Seth had fun banter and cute moments, but the pacing feels uneven and left a smut lover like me wanting a LITTLE more plot and a little less spice to help with the pacing whiplash. Despite this, it was still a mostly enjoyable supernatural romp.
2.5 stars. How to Help a Hungry Werewolf follows Cassandra who is cleaning up her deceased grandmother's house when her former best friend Seth stops by and is very different from when she last saw him in high school. At their last encounter, he embarrassed her in front of the whole school which ended their friendship. He is now dealing with issues being a werewolf and controlling his urges.
While she reluctantly agrees to help him, she finds that she is actually a witch and can use her grandmother's recipes to help Seth. As they work together, they start healing their friendship and it turns into much more. They also have to deal with former bullies from high school who are also werewolves.
Overall, this story was lacking for me. I do love books with a variety of paranormal characters and this definitely had this. However, I was not invested in either main character and some of the book was just silly.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This was a quick and breezy fall read. I enjoyed the banter and laughed out loud at some of the humor. Overall however, it felt like a caricature/cartoon version of what could have been a great and atmospheric romance. The "fated mates" piece lacked tension, depth, and background and seemed to hone in on the "mating" aspect, but left behind the magic of it all.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and author for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
