Hehe, I couldn't stop laughing while reading this book! It was so funny. Sure there were parts that made me want to cry, but overall this book was was hilarious. Every page had something to make me laugh or just smile at the silliness of the main characters. The fluff, the denial of love between these two, the healing they do together, and the tension between them. Gosh just everything about this book was amazing.
There is some triggering events! keep that in mind! but overall this book was amazing and I can't wait to look up what else this author has to offer.
A delightful (cozy? whimsical?) tale of a witch and a werewolf falling in love. Cassandra and Seth are an example of the very rare - far too rare - childhood friends to enemies to friends to lovers trope. After one of the most gut-wrenching prologues imaginable, we spend most of the book in Cassandra’s perspective, watching her turn around her stagnated life on her journey to self-discovery. Because it's set so squarely in the real world and the FMC doesn't know about the magical side of the world to start with, it has the air of magical realism. Some elements of the plot didn’t completely work for me, but I spent most of my time enjoying the funny authorial voice in this book and enjoying witchy hijinks.
Cassandra returns to her hometown to clear out her late grandmother's old house. She sees her ex-best friend Seth who is convinced that she is the witch that will save him.
A lot of spicy scenes and a lot of humour. I really enjoy it. I am glad that the MMC had to do a lot of begging because he did do some stupid things when he was a teenager. A fun book overall.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
How to Help a Hungry Werewolf was a must request for me - werewolves, romance, and a cute cover? Yes.
Cassandra and Seth's story is a friends to enemies to friends to lovers story. They were friends growing up, inseparable and they knew everything about each other. Cut to high school when Seth was influenced to say something about Cassandra in front of everyone when their relationship switched to enemies. When Cassandra's grandmother passes away, she goes to clean out her house and Seth is there. They try to avoid each other but it's impossible, they need each other's help. Throw in an alive microwave and a raccoon for one jam packed romance.

4.5 stars. Fun, fun, fun. I love Stein's sense of humor. This is definitely a paranormal romance filled with lots of creatures and magic. Seth is hot AF and so adorable. Cassie is slowly finding her confidence through her rekindled friendship with Seth and magic. This is a slow burn romance but when it hits it gets filthy! I wish Stein would dedicate less time to writing masturbation scenes though. I'm interested to read other books in this series. Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC
Oh my god this book was so funny and sexy in a witchy way. I put a spell on you was constantly in my mind whilst reading this. Cassie was so hilarious and spellbinding, and Seth her dumb bimbo werewolf. The premise was definitely silly, and Cassie getting back at her highschool bullies was as equally righteous as it was funny, but the twist of how Seth became a werewolf was what really got me. it was clever, it was inventive, and hats off to Stein for all of the creativity in this book. Not often do you see talking (hilarious) microwaves and raccoon familiars, nor a witch whose broom is a hoover vacuum. I also hardly see any diversity in fantasy settings, and the fact that Stein didn't shy away from giving her fairies some melanin was a nice addendum. I'm not even gonna touch on the spicy aspects because that would be entirely too telling of me and my tastes and I liked this book maybe a little too much. Perfect witchy Halloween vibes and I can't wait to pick up a copy when it hits stores.
When I first started this story I assumed I would not like it because of the whole fmc being in love with the mmc who fat shamed her. I almost dnf’d but decided to give the story a chance and I’m glad I did. This book was surprisingly an overall cute paranormal romance with world building and magic that I loved enough to want to continue the series! The way that the “veil” was lifted and the magical adventures that the main characters went on through their journey to “heal” Seth’s werewolf problems was so entertaining. I love town, the magical beings, and the potential for what’s to come with the sanctuary! This was a beautiful blend of magical horny chaos that is perfect for fans of child hood friends to lovers, tiny fairies, witches, werewolves, raccoon familiars, and all of the favorite paranormal magicalness! 🧙🏾♀️🔮🌶🌶💕✨
Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley, for the early ebook access!
This book was an absolute delight! I mean, the magic was so hilariously goofy, in the best possible way. I haven't dabbled much in fun supernatural reads before, so this was a total treat. Plus, that 'idiots in love' theme was so fun, the angst and spice were really well balanced. I found myself wishing it were October; it’s the perfect cozy book to read around Halloween. It gave me major vibes from Disney's "Halloweentown" and "What We Do in the Shadows." Perfect combo of spooky and hilarious.
I was so excited to give this one a shot. Unfortunately I could not do with the fat shaming. It caused me to have to DNF this one.
I loved this read, particularly the fairies! It was a great twist on what I was expecting, but adored Cassie and Seth and just couldn't put it down. A great read for a bit of fantasy with lots and lots of magic!
Such a funny and cute paranormal romance! The only issue that I had was that the book felt a little bit too long. It could’ve been slightly shorter.
I’m obsessed with Cassie and Seth’s relationship. The dynamic between the two is great and I love how all Seth wants is Cassie.
I'm not going to star rate this because I literally DNF'd before I even got to chapter one. If I'd have known the MMC bullied the FMC in high school to the point where he hijacked the microphone during the talent show to call her a "fat ass" in front of the whole school, followed by her getting cake dumped all over her while everyone laughs, I wouldn't have requested this arc to begin with.
I don't know who this is for, but MMCs that are bullies ain't for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
Loved the fantasy/paranormal elements of this cute rom com! Gimme a whole book of the raccoon seriously!
The romance element was just okay for me- the characters were a bit juvenile and miscommunication trope was a bit overdone as well. But overall found the story generally lovable, the slow burn and spice good, and the unique plot elements a lot of fun.
I received an ARC from NetGalley.
Cassie returns to her hometown to a seemingly haunted house left to her by her grandmother. There she quickly encounters her former best friend Seth, who she fell out with over a terrible prank he pulled with his cool guy friends. But he has a problem that only Cassie can help him solve, and maybe he isn't a bad guy after all?
This book felt a bit like a fever dream. Werewolves, witches, talking to raccoons, flying on a vacuum, it can be a bit overwhelming at times keeping everything straight. Charlotte Stein writes some very witty dialogue (I highlighted SO much of it) but it started to feel like that back and forth was weighing down the story. There are supernatural things and just regular life things and feelings that are super obvious to the reader but the characters go out of their way to avoid. It's one of those books I find myself yelling "Just talk to each other!" at many times throughout the reading journey.
I loved the spice - particularly the buildup to the main event - even though I found it weird that people would be doing things like that in the vicinity of each other and not going further or even really talking much about it.
I LOVED the raccoon. I would cut a bunch of dialogue between the characters to have more raccoon in the story.
Overall a cute romance with a HEA that could have been tightened up but was a good read.
What a cute rom-com about childhood friends!
Our FMC comes back to her small town to clear our her grandmothers house when she crosses path with her childhood friend. They have some adorable banter and the spice was top notch. I like when the spice is later on in the book with the slow burn. It was well written and I would recommend this book to my audience!
Thank you Netgalley!
Cassie and Seth are childhood friends, who reconnect when Cassie returns to her hometown to clean out her grandmother's house. I enjoyed the story very much.
Thank you to net galley, the author & St. Martin's for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own and honest to my experience.
The premise of this book is adorable, really. Best friend werewolf, witchy female lead. It's got the friends to enemies to friends to lovers thing going for it but the characters are unbearably awkward. The kind of awkward that gives you second, third and fourth hand embarrassment. The characters feel so young and they are clearly meant to be in the early to mid twenties based on timeline events. They talk young and approach all things with a sense of eew that's gross and weird.
The miscommunication and refusal to communicate through 80% of this book is downright painful. I loved the super natural aspects of this book & the talking raccoon was really a star. But, I can't say I felt it was worth it to suffer through how awkward they were with each other for a chapter of fairly cute love declarations.
If odd ball, quirky, awkward characters are your jam, I'm positive that you'll love this. Unfortunately, it just wasn't my favorite.
"How to Help a Hungry Werewolf" was an amusing, entertaining book. In almost any other context, a large portion of the book would be considered "soft core." However, in the context of this story -- former best friends turned enemies and now friends of sorts, with Cassie discovering that she is a witch and her former best friend turned enemy Seth is a werewolf -- and a very horny one at that (but only for her) -- it alternates rapidly between potentially erotic and farcical funny. Even the more serious moments often turn out humorous.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for the eARC to provide an honest review.
I enjoyed this book for the most part. I feel like the small town world building was lacking and left a lot to be desired. It took approximately 80% to get to the spicy stuff.
There is good banter between the main characters but it felt like a lot of plot lines fell flat without any conclusions.
Overall it’s a cute rom-com and I most likely will give the next book a chance.
I loved this ridiculous book. You have to suspend your disbelief in a big way, and you can’t take it too seriously, but as long as that’s okay with you, it’s a goofy, absurd, delightful, and pretty steamy romance.
As always, I love a plus sized female protagonist who isn’t ashamed of her body. Even better that she’s a powerful witch.
Be warned that there is bullying of the female main character, including by the male main character. His actions are sort of explained, but if I were the FMC I would have demanded more of an explanation. It didn’t seem sufficient for the pain he caused her. The only reason I still loved the story and romance is because he did work incredibly hard to make up for his teenage behavior and clearly felt very real remorse.
It’s a silly, fun, supernatural book. If that’s your thing, I think you’ll enjoy it.
