I love how action packed TJs books always are. Her insider knowledge really shines during the airplane scenes. I did like the departure from the whole book taking place inside an aircraft and moving into a new setting. I really connected with the characters and enjoyed the fast paced plot. A great action thriller, I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC! I was so excited to see that TJ Newman put out a new book, because I really liked Falling and I absolutely loved Drowning. Worst Case Scenario was definitely different from those two in several ways, but it was still an action packed high adrenaline novel.
Newman’s first two novels are primarily set inside the plane, while Worst Case Scenario focuses more on the aftermath of a plane crash. We follow multiple different characters and storylines after a plane crashes into a nuclear plant in Minnesota, as they all work together to try and save humanity. At times, it was difficult to keep track of all the characters and how they were connected. I also wish some of the storylines were focused on a bit more. Newman clearly did her research on the science behind nuclear power, but there were some times when it went a bit over my head. All of that aside though, the book still held my interest and I had a hard time putting it down!

I had a hard time getting into this novel. Overall, it was a decent story but I wasn’t able to feel connected to any of the passengers.

This was a terrifying idea and a wild ride to read! So many things happening at once! The idea that this could happen is super scary! This was my 1st book by TJ Newman but will not be my last!

Thank you to the author, publisher and @NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Well, if you want to be scared shitless again, pick up T.J. Newman’s latest thriller! She has a unique ability to scare my pants off, but also makes me want to keep reading. Now, this reads like an action movie and definitely cuts to a lot of different storylines so that docked it a star for me because it was hard to follow.
Do I think the movie might star Nicholas Cage? Sure. Is it probably a bad B movie? Sure. But the book was entertaining for me and by the end I better appreciated the absurdity of it. There is a lot that I think she took liberties with, but it was an entertaining read.

Pretty formulaic as this is T.J. Newman's third airplane crisis book, but still a fun time overall. The single sentence book synopsis involves a plane that crashes into a nuclear power plant and the aftermath that ensues on how to deal with the wreckage and make sure the situation does not get worse. It's nice seeing ordinary people come together to figure out a way to save the world, especially since it's involving a nuclear problem. Make no mistake that the books Newman writes are "finish in one day page turners" and this one is no different. I would read anything Newman writes, but hoping that in the future she switches up the formula.

This book is probably my favorite of hers. I loved it. The plot flowed so good I just had to keep turning the pages to see what was gonna happen next. I gave this one 4 stars and loved my time reading it. Will be reading her next one and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. How will she ever top what's she already done?

I love TJ Newman and her writing! This one just wasn’t my favorite due to its more technical nature. I will still pick up every book she publishes.

As a plane is flying across Minnesota the pilot has a heart attack while the copilot is in the bathroom. As the plane starts to fall, the panicked stewardess manages to reach the cockpit and try to call for help but it is too late. Everyone's worst fear takes place as the plane crashes near a nuclear power facility. The damage is wide and the town is completely cut off from communication from outside and from the plants alarm systems. There is a major incident at the power plant that has the potential to cause severe national damage if it is not fixed. The small Minnesota town tries their best with limited resources to rescue their own citizens and to repair the damage to the plant before it kills them all and a third of the country.
HOLY CRAP!!!!!! This is the best suspense novel that I have read in a long time! It was impossible to put down. It is all incredibly humbling too as this could potentially happen. T.J. Newman has become a must-read author after this novel. The details of the procedures and the issues that the people were facing was exceptional and kept me completely riveted. Highly recommend to everyone!!!

Ohhhhhh my God, this book was INCREDIBLE. To be fair I did read it after it released so my copy was the print edition. That being said, by page 5 my jaw was literally hanging open , and I don't think it closed until I finished the book. This was a gripping story that had my heart in my throat the entire way through. I did knock half a star off because I feel like for the amount of catastrophic horror/damage in this book, the ending was just too neat and unrealistic. So 4.5 stars, rounded down. I've loved ALL of Newman's thrillers; this one just cemented her place on my auto-read list!

If you liked T.J. Newman's first two books, you will also love this one. Though you have to majorly suspend your disbelief and go with a lot of convenient connections (thank goodness everyone needed in these disaster situations is related), her books are so fun and compelling that it doesn't matter. This is another page turner where you're dying to know what happens and whether or not the characters survive. There are surprisingly emotional scenes and some unexpected character depth toward the end and I will continue to read everything she publishes.

Yowzah!
Another banger.
Another book to NOT READ BEFORE YOU GO ON VACATION.
I loved the pacing (even the side-quest). I loved the story. I loved the main characters.
I get that some felt bogged down by all the technical details, (I felt the same whilst reading Hadfield’s newest) but somehow it worked for me.
For me, the biggest hurdle wasn’t the jargon, it was the sheer volume of characters. Small towns are still small, no? I needed a white board to keep track.
Cannot wait for the next from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author T.J. Newman for the DRC in exchange for my honest review.
I think T.J Newman is an amazing writer. I thoroughly enjoyed her two previous books. She was a flight attendant turned author and both her debut and 2nd book were picked up for major motion pictures. Worst Case Scenario is good. It starts out with the same heart pounding action from page 1 that her other 2 books delivered but about half way through, it started to lose me. I am not sure if it's just because the stories are too familiar now or if it was the timing, but I really had to try to stay interested in this one. where the other two, I couldn't put them down. I appreciate the heart pounding action and the strong female heroines in all three books but this one seemed to have less character development and some scenes felt a little far fetched but then again, it would make a great screenplay :)

Worst Case Scenario by T.J. Newman is an intense, fast-paced thriller that feels like watching a disaster movie unfold on the page. The story kicks off with a catastrophic plane crash into a nuclear power plant, setting off a series of events that could lead to an unprecedented nuclear disaster.
What stood out most to me was how Newman brought both the technical and human sides of the crisis to life. The characters—ordinary people like firefighters, plant workers, and townsfolk—showed incredible courage in the face of unimaginable stakes, and their stories kept me hooked throughout.
While the movie-like writing style took some adjustment, it ultimately added to the tension and urgency of the story. As my first T.J. Newman novel, it took me a bit of time to get through, but I found it highly enjoyable and plan to explore more of her work.
I rated this book 4/5 stars for its gripping premise, detailed storytelling, and emotional depth. It’s a must-read for anyone who loves high-stakes thrillers. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!

Definitely bought for Library and it has been flying off the shelf along with the other TJ Newman titles. Always a favorite author

3.75 stars, rounded down. Took me forEVER to read this one, unlike “Drowning” by her. This one read more like a movie script to me than a novel. I never really connected with any of the characters, despite their dramatic situation. The concept of this was intriguing and heartbreaking, but the writing didn’t live up to it in my opinion.

In a season of not wanting to read many thrillers, TJ Newman is an exception to the rule! This one is another plane based thriller, but most of the action is from people on the ground. I think this is the hardest of all of Newman's thrillers to read as a parent. There are several parent and child pairs here that are tested and I was emotional more than once listening.
Newman hits the right balance once again of tension, action, and human groundedness that define her books and will keep me as a loyal reader.

Thanks to Hachette Audio for my audio copy of this book! All opinions are my own.

The novel "The Worst Case Scenario," by T.J. Newman, is exceptionally immersive, immediately capturing the reader's attention. The narrative's immediate dive into the story's core is sustained by a countdown format in each chapter, building anticipation toward "Zero Hour." Although not verified, the incorporation of various intriguing facts reflects the author's extensive research across diverse subjects. Drawing from her significant experience as a flight attendant, Newman's writing style avoids superfluous details, delivering an action-packed narrative that maintains taut tension, making it tangible and keeping the reader engaged and riveted.
The alternating focus between two rescue missions intensifies the suspense and adrenaline in the story, evoking emotional resonance, particularly with one of the missions. The book portrays a harrowing situation counterbalanced by depictions of unity and assistance for the greater good, offering a poignant and pertinent reading experience. The portrayal of diverse and poignant relationships, notably a father-son relationship, contributes to the narrative's depth and emotional impact.
The unexpected emotional depth in a thrilling narrative, combined with overarching themes of love and unity, renders T.J. Newman's work compelling and emotional, ranking it among my favourite reads for 2024. Moreover, I had a highly enjoyable experience with the audio format during my recent vacation. Joe Morton's narration was exceptional, imparting realism, suspense, and palpable engagement with the narrative, ensuring my sustained interest from start to finish. I found the author's note at the beginning of the audiobook to be quite engaging. The note provided valuable insight into the author's inspiration and journey to becoming an author.

This was a stressful read. It was good, but I had to take it slow because it was so realistic and could actually happen.

T.J. Newman is so good at turning the scariest airplane situations into nail-biting thrillers. In her latest novel, she writes about the aftermath of a plan crash into and near a nuclear power plant. It highlights the fact that no matter how much emergency planning is done, each situation is unique and needs to be handled by intelligent professionals. I love that there are plenty of strong brave women represented to help in this nightmare.
I kept reading snippets of the story to my husband - he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering with a concentration in nuclear engineering. He has read about the nuclear emergencies and has even visited the Ukrainian nuclear power plant which has been talked about in the news during the Russia-Ukraine war. I commend T.J. Newman in her research, since at no time did my husband say, "That could never happen", which is high praise from him.
After setting the bar so high with her first two novels, I was not disappointed. But I will admit to taking a little while to get into the story as the characters "on the ground" were introduced. Once the story really got moving, it was the propulsive thriller that I have come to know and love from this author.
I highly recommend Worst Case Scenario, but not while on an airplane flight :) For those who have not read this author's previous books, I would start with those, even though they are all stand-alone novels.
