Thanks to NetGalley for the early copy. I've now read all 3 of the books in this series. As with the first 2, I really enjoyed this entry. Sure, the general conceit is pretty far-fetched, but it didn't really matter, because it was an exciting read. It's definitely a good vacation read. The plot just zips along. There's not a ton of character development, but some of the characters get decent-enough backstories that ratchet up the tension. I know the first 2 books are being made into movies. I'm sure this one will get the Hollywood treatment as well.

A thrilling read I could not put this book down. The author didn’t disappoint with this amazing book

Short synopsis: The pilot of a large aircraft has a medical emergency crashing the plane into a Nuclear Power Plant.

My thoughts: I was highly anxious with my heart pumping from page one, and it did not let up through the entire book. This is the definition of a high stakes thriller, that left me feeling almost every emotion imaginable.

I loved the alternating perspectives, and the fact we could see so many different situations caused by the accident. The sense of community banding together was inspiring.

I did a mix of physical and audio of this and loved both versions. The audio had special effects for announcements etc that really added to the ambiance of the book. This one will definitely be with me for a long time.

Read if you love:
- Community
- High stakes reads
- Pulse pounding moments
- Desperate measures

Worst Case Scenario sets the scene so well, and has you thinking you’re right there in all of the scenes. The descriptions were great, very detailed. There were longer chapters at time but they went by quick because you were invested in the story. The book at times got a little technical and it went a little over my head, but it wasn’t horrible. A lot of characters were introduced at once and we had a ton of POVS, so at times it got confusing trying to keep up with everyone and who was who. Overall this was a unique book concept that I hadn’t seen before.

The quintessential vacation or beach read, this is a thriller that makes you nervous, scared that something like this scenario, a plane crash into a nuclear power plant, could happen. Newman ratchets up the tension at the very first paragraph and never lets up, with the consequences getting more and more dire. Perfect for fans of Patterson and Crichton and those disaster movies I love so much.

Summary- When a pilot suffers a heart attack at 35,000 feet, a commercial airliner filled with passengers crashes into a nuclear power plant in the small town of Waketa, Minnesota, which becomes ground zero for a catastrophic national crisis with global implications.

Rating- ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

My thoughts- was this story ridiculous? yes Did I enjoy every minute ? Also yes 😂. This one was unbelievably preposterous compared to the last two TJ Newman. If you are willing to suspend belief and go for the ride you will have so much fun. However I didn’t love this one as much as her usual action packed romps. I didn’t connect to any of the characters, there was no buildup and you began the action on page one. However this was a fun little ride. Thanks netgalley and hachette for the advanced copy, this released yesterday.
*
QOTD- where was the last place you flew to on a plane ? Mine was California 😍

Wooowwwweeee! This book managed to have me simultaneously on the edge of my seat and tearing up several times throughout the whole book. As a parent, this one definitely tugged at the heart strings for me a few times. I loved how the author really put a spot light on the heroes of the book, and their bravery and selflessness through each scenario. My only complaint was how technical and detailed some of the nuclear descriptions got, it took me out of the story a bit. I alternated listening and physically reading this, and the narrator did a fantastic job creating a tense atmosphere, and bringing some of Newmans scenes really to life. I’d love to see this made into a movie!

Thank you NetGalley, Little Brown & company, and Hachett Audio for my ARC and ALC in exchange for my honest feedback!

Thank you, Netgalley, T. J. Newman, and Little, Brown and Company, for the ebook. This was fast-paced. I can't believe that could happen, type thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat! The beginning unfolded in my head like scenes from a movie, and I need to unsee! Perfectly pieced together.

Worst Case Scenario is TJ Newman’s third book. Like her earlier books, Falling and Drowning, this one involves a plane crash. However, this time, the plane has crashed into a nuclear power station in a small town in the US. Time is of the essence to save the power station before it implodes. At the same time, firefighters are trying to save the life of a young child who is stuck in his family’s van hanging off a bridge, covered in fuel, after it was hit by part of the plane’s debris.

The story starts off with a bang and there are some good, tense scenes. The child in the van storyline is very well done. However, I found that the nuclear power station storyline required technical descriptions that at times took me out of that part of the plot. I found myself skimming those descriptions.

Having said that, the author does a good job of weaving interesting issues and questions into the nuclear power plant plotline around family, sacrifice, community, the value of one life versus several, and motherhood.

Yes, the hype is real!! If you loved her previous novels, you'll love this one too!!! And yes, you must pick this one up today!!

If you're concerned about another plane crash story, don't be. Newman branches away from the crash, creating the same tension as her previous novels at the nuclear power plant.

What I loved:
✨Plot-driven thriller: anxiety-inducing, heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat - it is everything you want for a plot-driven story.
✨Every Day Heros: Newman really shines here. She showcases the everyday heroism of ordinary Americans who selflessly step up for the greater good. Her portrayal of first responders carrying out their duties with selflessness is a poignant reminder of their true bravery. These sections gave me chills while listening.
✨Emotional rollercoaster: Newman pens a realistic portrayal of a catastrophe, so please note that not everyone gets a HEA.
✨Narration: I don't watch TV, so I didn't understand the hype when Joe Morton was announced as the narrator. However, Morton absolutely nails the characters' anxiety-filled adrenaline while also conveying their emotional vulnerability to a potential nuclear catastrophe. The narration combined with the special effects creates an immersive audio experience. I HIGHLY recommend this format!

OMG, can this author write!! TJ Newman excels in so many ways: hooking the reader from the start in believable and realistic story lines, immersing you in the action, keeping you in almost unbearable suspense while also providing richly depicted scenes and characters. YOU ARE THERE, and it's scary as can be!

Worst Case Scenario turns an ordinary flight into a nightmare as the pilot suffers a medical emergency causing the plane to crash, killing all souls on board. It escalates to worst case scenario when the plane hits a nuclear power plant in a small town, causing extensive damage to the power plant and putting the survival of the world in question.

As someone who lived near the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania and experienced the horror and suspense of that stopped just in time near core melt-down, this novel admittedly hit me hard. However, it also gave me an appreciation for how well Newman captured the impact on the towns and people in the surrounding area, and how very quickly a day can change from the quite ordinary to the "are we going to live through this?" fear. Nowhere we could evacuate to would have been far enough away, and we had to prepare to leave knowing we may never be able to return. And yes, cancer occurrences and deaths skyrocketed in the following years. Sometimes even near misses have extensive and extreme consequences.

Kudos on another excellent suspense novel! I will continue to read everything you write!

Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown, and Company for the arc of this book. I have read and enjoyed all the other TJ Newman books in a can’t put it down sort of way. This one did not grip me as much, but I still really enjoyed it. I think the nuclear science part was a little much and I lost interest at times. There were also several storylines and I found myself preferring one over the others…it was a large cast of characters with very little characterization.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. Worst Case Scenario by TJ Newman. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for this advanced reader copy. I jumped at the chance to read former flight attendant TJ Newman’s newest novel. I loved her two previous books (and both have been optioned for film). However, this one was not my favorite. A pilot suffers a fatal heart attack, causing a packed airplane to plummet to the ground. However, that’s not the worst of it. The plane crashes into a nuclear power plant, causing a potentially cataclysmic disaster. The small town in Minnesota bands together, and ordinary people scramble to save America. We learn much about nuclear power and nuclear waste. I was not remotely aware of the intricacies of this clean energy, and I now know plenty. The whole nuclear power plant setting made me too nervous. I am a child of the 80s, and those fears of nuclear war bubbled up. I’d suggest reading her other books. They were winners. #netgalley #bookstagram #tjnewman #airplane #reading #whatiread #bookgram #bookworm #books #goodreads #libbyapp #whatsinyourbeachbag

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
Wow!! Wow!! Get ready for the ride in the airplane heading down when the pilot suffers a heart attack heading to the nuclear plant. Feel the passengers emotions, the stewardess emotions, can you feel the stress? Can they stop the downward spiral? Can they save the plane, the passengers or anyone?

Worst Case Scenario was intense!!!! My heart thumped and broke all at once during this tragic story. All of the characters were so well written. I can't even imagine something like this happening which I'm sure is why TJ Newman is such a great author. You can tell how much research went into Worst Case Scenario. I switched between ebook and audio, both were great. This just came out yesterday, go get it!!!

This book reads with the same panic and intensity as Newman’s other books, which I love! There’s also always at least one situation amongst the crazy events that makes me cry. I knew nothing about nuclear plants before reading this book, and I definitely learned a few things! Overall, not my favourite by T.J. Newman but I enjoyed it!

If you have read Newman's other books, Falling and Drowning, just stop reading the review and start reading Worst Case Scenario. Newman's writing style of edge of your seat, pulse pounding, and stress inducing is on display once again. As mush as it is cliff hanging chapters, I had to give myself a rest every once in a while! I was so anxious! Another 5 star read without a doubt. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

While T.J. Newman is the reigning queen of heartpounding thrillers, this one may be her best yet- and it's certainly the one that made me the most uncomfortable. It's the way this one felt incredibly real and horrifically plausible and far too close to home. It is actively terrifying to consider how easily a tragedy like this could occur, and the way this is written with a ton of chapter to chapter cliffhangers made it honestly impossible to stop reading.

5 stars. Wow! T.J. Newman does it again. I read Drowning by her last year and haven’t stopped thinking about the plot or the characters, I recommend that book to anyone and everyone looking for a fast-paced suspense book that reads like a movie. Worst Case Scenario is no different. I also sell or give away my books once read but Drowning is always one I ask for back to pass on to others and intend to read again (I never reread books). I wish I had a hard copy of Worst Case Scenario to do the same with.

I was a bit lost in the beginning with the explanations on the logistics of a nuclear power plant but the way Newman lays it out and returns to the parts and infrastructure throughout the book helped me to visualize how it all worked. The emotional attachment to the first responders, power plant employees and briefly the passengers on the crashing plane were genuine and pulled at my heartstrings.

As far as the format of storytelling I love the switching POVs and how almost every chapter ends with a suspenseful, hold your breath type of moment. It makes this book un-put-downable.

This book makes me want to go back and read Falling by Newman, the only one I haven’t read of hers yet.
