“‘We can’t see from in here. What happened?’ ‘A plane, Ethan,’ Steve said flatly. ‘A plane happened.’”
Have you seen Chernobyl on HBO? Were you old enough to watch 9/11 unfold in real time? Yes and yes for me so this one hit HARD. I read this is damn near one sitting.
T.J. Newman writes some of the most frighteningly real catastrophic scenarios, tapping into our deepest fears. These books are so stressful but in the best possible can’t-put-it-down way.
And hot damn this audiobook is FIRE! The narration nails the fear and angst of the plot line and he mimics airplane intercom announcements with spot on accuracy. I have no issues with anxiety but my fight or flight was activated! Holy hell.
“The situation we’re faced with today has major global implications. It far exceeds our current scale.’ He paused. ‘Mr. President, this could be our first level eight.’ ‘What would a level eight mean?’ ‘It would be an extinction-level event, sir.’” Utterly terrifying because it’s plausible. 😨
Thank you to Netgalley, Little, Brown and Company, Hachette Audio, and the author for the ARC and ALC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

These books are so much fun and citing to read. The pages flew as always, and I enjoyed it immensely and happy to talk it up. Excited for the hopeful next one.

I was SO excited to get Worst Case Scenario by TJ Newman on audio thanks to Hachette Audio! I loved listening to Falling and Drowning so was eagerly awaiting this book!
The Worst Case Scenario is unfolding when a pilot suffers a heart attack and a plane filled with passengers crashes into a nuclear power plant in a small Minnesota town. There are about 16 hours to get the nuclear power plant away from a disaster bigger than Chernobyl and the people of this small town need to face the ultimate test of their lives.
Told with Newman's amazing on the edge of your seat storytelling where you are immersed. The audiobook narrator Jow Morton is fabulous. I couldn't stop listening because I needed to know what happened next. It's a good think this is a quick audiobook at just over 8 hours. I highly highly recommend listening to this book. I'm sure reading it is good too, but I've listened to all 3 and they are incredible on audio.
Definitely add this to your audiobook list!

It's official, T.J. Newman is a new favorite author of mine! These books are so uniquely terrifying for me and incredibly well-executed. The pacing and the story are always there. I'm giving this a pretty short and sweet review because I don't have any criticism to give. Highly recommend this book and highly recommend both of T.J. Newman's other books.
On a side note, I was lucky enough to get an e-book and audiobook of this one to immersive read. I really loved the narrator of the audio version, but I definitely had to slow it down at times to help myself keep better track of which characters were which. Loved both versions though, and I do recommend both. Just something to keep in mind if you are debating between which version to go with for your read.
Anyway, I really enjoyed everything about this one and am excited to get my hands on future books by this author ✈️🔥

TJ Newman just doesn’t miss. As with her previous two novels, I was kept on the edge of my seat the entire time. She creates characters that, by the end of the book, you feel actual connections with and I find that so insane. She’s not afraid to write the hard things, but with every heartbreak there is a silver lining. I really have no notes! I absolutely loved this book, just as I knew I would.
Thank you Little, Brown & NetGalley!

This is so compulsively readable. A solid parade of traumas, just when you thought it would be fine, something else happened. This book had a ton of characters which is usually hard for me to keep up with but I felt like there was just enough development for each of them that it didn’t take me long to get my bearings when the perspective changed.
I don’t always read thrillers or riveting stories like this but I find them much more enjoyable when the author focuses on the humanity and connections between characters and this did just that. I picked this one up based on the recommendation of a friend and she was right! This is a great book.

What a suspenseful and thrilling book! This had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. This was my first book by TJ Newman and I absolutely loved it. It kept my attention the whole time and it had me running through some many emotions when reading. Thank you so much for the arc copy in exchange for my honest review.

Worst Case Scenario is so tense, poignant, and terrifying. This book is my favorite read of the year so far. Told from multiple perspectives, this story takes you through one of the most terrifying accident scenarios possible with the potential to end humanity. It also tells the tale of everyday people doing their best to save their families and the rest of the world at their own expense. If you're looking for an emotional rollercoaster—this is it. The narration by Joe Morton is phenomenal.

Scary, terrifying, exciting, nail biter- those are the first few words that come to mind to describe this book. I’ve loved the previous two books the this author and this one was just as good. TJ Newman knows how to captivate her audience attention and keep them engaged until the very last chapter.

This was the first book I’ve read by TJ Newman and I am hooked! While I found the premise of this book extremely terrifying, I absolutely loved every second of it. I loved the character development, the fast paced , page turning drama and all the different perspectives.
Will absolutely recommend this!

A widowmaker heart attack and bad circumstances causes a passenger plane to crash into a small town north of Minneapolis. Once the wreckage settles, the town is faced with a crisis that will have national implications. Because peices of the plane have damaged the town's nuclear power plant, setting it on a course for a nuclear disaster if the trapped residents cannot find a way to save the plant.
Worst Case Scenario is the exact kind of big cast disaster story that I wanted after Eruption left me incredibly disappointed. The story is just constantly moving and everytime I think there will be a rest, Newman throws a new wrench at the characters that keeps everyone in danger. Newman does a great job moving to a novel not primarily set in the confines of a plane. The story flips back and forth between various workers and townspeople at the nuclear power plant, a group of firefighters attempting a rescue on a bridge, and the President of the United States trying to manage his first major crisis. Newman does a wonderful job building out all of the plotlines and characters that you root for them to succeed and feel very emotional when things go wrong. Anyone who enjoyed Newman's prior works will love this one as well. Her prior two books still had large casts of characters and breakneck paces and this book is no different.
A note for the audiobook: Joe Morton is an excellent narrator who helps a lot to bring the story to life, but be warned that the book is constantly shifting perspectives, which is not always as apparent in the audiobook.
Thank you to Little, Brown and NetGalley for a copy of Worst Case Scenario in exchange for an honest review.

Worst Case Scenario is another really fun, fast-paced, kinetic thriller, like reading an action movie. The characters are witty, and snarky, and highly entertaining. Recommended.

Newman had my heart in my throat from page one! Such an intense ride the whole way through. The countdown chapters and the situations that all occurred were terrifying. The few moments of levity that are thrown in helps make this story tug at your heartstrings. From the local rescuers to the everyday people that stepped up, Newman makes the reader want to root for and/or cry for each character as the story unfolds. This book is the equivalent of a 'trainwreck' where one always says they don't want to look but then at the same time are oddly fascinated and invested in seeing how the story will play out. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC and thank you T.J. Newman for the crazy roller coaster emotional ride. This is my 3rd book by this author and I loved them all. Can't wait for the movies.

I am a huge fan of T.J. Newman's two previous books, Falling and Drowning. I love how they were both a thriller set within an airplane scenario. With Newman's newest thriller, Worst Case Scenario, the airplane isn't where the main action takes place, it's the device that causes the main plot. A plane crash that causes a major catastrophic event!
I love how Newman took what she's great at in the last two books and makes a pivot. This doesn't take away from the action but instead fuels it. It makes the stakes that much bigger. I was completely on the edge of my seat with this novel. I didn't want to put it down but also had to at times because of its intensity.
This book was a thrill ride for me and i enjoyed every minute of it!

In the usual T.J. Newman style, her latest, Worst Case Scenario bring a fast paced, nail biter of a thriller! She throws you right into the action from the first page and doesn't let up until the end. This one had my heart racing and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The short chapters made it even that much more propulsive.
I was glad to see a departure from the whole book taking place on the plane. Only the prologue starts there where we have the pilot of the plane suffer a fatal, Widow-maker heart attack, causing the airplane, filled with passengers, to crash into a nuclear power plant. Pretty much a true worst case scenario.
This one is perfect for Summer reading, it's like your favorite action movie in book form. I can definitely see this one being optioned too. Definitely tense and filled with drama all the way through. My only tiny qualm, is the ending. It felt a little fast to wrap up and I wanted to find out more about the characters and the aftermath of this horrible ordeal. And that is probably more of a me problem, because I really did totally enjoy every minute!
Thank you to @netgalley, @littlebrown @tj_author for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. Out on August 13, 2024.

Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown for sending me an ARC of Worst Case Scenario in exchange for an honest review.
On the opening page of this novel, a commercial airline pilot suffers a fatal heart attack while his co-pilot is in a restroom. By the time the co-pilot can get back into the cockpit, it’s too late for those on board. But this plane doesn’t crash in a field or into the ocean; it crashes into a nuclear power plant in the small town of Waketa, Minnesota. And over the next few hours, the people on the ground have to deal with tragedies and catastrophes—both large scale and personal—as they try stop an unimaginable, planet-altering nuclear meltdown.
Falling was one of the surprise hits of 2021, a great-but-cheesy action movie in book form. Ms. Newman’s sophomore effort, Drowning was another great-but-cheesy action movie in book form. I suppose that Ms. Newman could have sat on her laurels and kept churning out airplane-based disaster thrillers. But I’m happy to report that Worst Case Scenario represents an evolution in her work. First, the airplane is gone before the end of the first chapter; the disasters here are all earthbound. Second, the disasters here are statistically unlikely but feel much more realistic. And maybe most importantly, this book was a more emotional experience. There’s a larger emphasis on characterization and, by the end, a few tears will fall when bad things happen to good people.
But make no mistake: Worst Case Scenario is another really fun, fast-paced, kinetic thriller, like reading an action movie. The characters are witty, and snarky, and highly entertaining. Once again, Ms. Newman has captured the spirit of movies like Armageddon, Independence Day, White House Down, and with its heavy emphasis on emergency management, the Tommy Lee Jones classic Volcano. Recommended.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of TJ Newman’s latest: Worst Case Scenario! I have never read a book by this author and felt calm while doing so. Newman is the queen of anxiety inducing novels, and this one was no different than her first two. This time, an airplane crashes into a nuclear power plant, and the community surrounding it rallies to try and save everyone they love (and the world). If you’ve read and enjoyed Newman’s other two novels, you will enjoy this one. If you haven’t, you will still enjoy this one. Worst Case Scenario publishes this Tuesday 8/13!

Oh my gosh - I have to stop reading Newman! She gives me literal nightmares about all the things that could go wrong with a plane but this one takes the cake for me - uranium cake of course! Because what is more terrifying than a plane crushing into a nuclear power plant?!? Chernobyl has nothing on this one.
All in all, I read this with zero get ups, bathroom breaks or pauses in a little over 2 hours. 10/10 would watch this movie.

As a Newman fan, I enjoyed his previous works and was so excited to read this as an ARC! T.J. Newman's Worst Case Scenario is a high-stakes thriller that delivers an exhilarating ride from start to finish. Newman’s expertise in pacing and tension is evident, creating a gripping narrative that keeps readers on edge. The plot, centered around a high-risk hostage situation, is both intense and engaging, with well-drawn characters who face moral and physical challenges. While some plot twists may feel predictable, the overall execution of the story is strong and suspenseful. Newman's compelling writing and adept handling of suspense make Worst Case Scenario a standout thriller that's sure to captivate fans of the genre.

This was so bittersweet.. and not at all what I was expecting!
This is definitely a bit different than her past two books. They normally take place on a plane but this takes place after the plane crashes into a nuclear power plant. The effects of such a disaster was nothing less than crazy! The different POV's and scenarios really keep you on your toes. The emotion though.. this one got me in my feels.
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review with my honest opinion.*
