Fast Paced Suspense..
With a more than troubled past, chef Sadie is determined to succeed but when her new post brings concerning events Sadie turns suspicious. A fast paced suspense, a deftly drawn cast and a, perhaps unexpected, plot littered with twists.
This was an enjoyable fast read with a glimpse of the restaurant industry. Sadie hasn't made the best decisions in life and now have an opportunity for something with a future. A good opportunity as a Chef, but can she deliver what a takes or will her bad choices continue ?
Enjoyed the character and while the book started a bit slow, it picked up and was a quick read. I would recommend this book.
Thank you NetGalley for the e-read edition in exchange for my honesty review.
This was a strange book, it was not something I expected. The Author didn't leave much to the imagination and the twists were quite predictable.
The story is well written with plenty of plot twists and turns to keep you from guessing the ending.
Thank you to Leah Cupps, NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the arc of this book
I flew through One Last Bite, read it in one day! The plot twist was great, and it was wrapped up well. The last chapter took my breath away. My only thought is the name of the book and front cover art don't really match what I read. Thank you for the opportunity to read this story NetGalley and Inkubator books, in exchange for my honest review.
The book is an easy-to-read thriller that follows the story of an aspiring chef on parole who aims to pursue her dreams by working at a renowned restaurant called Thistle. However, as she starts her new job, she discovers that the culinary world is not as it seems. The plot thickens when she uncovers a mastermind behind the scenes, and the story takes a dark turn with a murder. The prologue immediately grabbed my attention, and although the point of view seemed to change from the last chapter, it intentionally kept the readers guessing. The surprising epilogue revealed a confession that I did not see coming. It looks like the Winthrops deserve each other. Thank you for this wonderful back.
The book is twisted and mind blowing. book is gripping. the ending was jaw dropping. suspect was spot on and the twists and turns kept me on the edge.
A great read, I found it started a bit slow but definitely picked up and is very fast paced just like life working in a fast paced kitchen environment. Hard to put down once I started it. Would definitely recommend.
This was a quick read and enjoyable, although too substantial when you dig in. It reminded me a bit of The Menu. It's not horror, but it has that vibe of a tucked-away celebrated restaurant where anything could happen.
This was a great read! I kind of loved the mini cliffhangers at the end of every chapter as it kept me wanting to read the next chapter right away. I felt like the story was well written while the ending wasn’t super shocking, it fit in with the story very well. I’m glad I picked this one up and hope to read more by this author.
Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced copy in return for an honest review!
This is a well paced, quick read. Fans of the housemaid by Frieda McFadden would enjoy.
I really liked the main character Sadie, thought she was well written and likeable.
The restaurant setting was great, I really enjoyed the hectic kitchen atmosphere and the food descriptions. I thought this was quite unique and added an extra layer of tension.
The big twist happens about half way through the book leaving the ending a little lacklustre for me. Ii liked that it took a new direction after this but felt a few more surprises towards the end would have made it more satisfying.
It is a short book, just under 230 pages so easy to read in a day however I think it did feel a bit rushed, everything happens very quickly, her job, her relationships and its very convenient she is always in the right place to overhear snippets of conversations. There was not much depth to any of the other characters and I was awaiting a big reveal about Sadie's past but it didn't really deliver.
Overall it's very easy to read, cosy thriller and would recommend to anyone new to thriller books
This was a really good and fast paced read. I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone.
Thank you NetGalley for letting me read it
I would say this was a slow burn. There was not a lot going on for the first half, but that did allow for good character development. I felt like the author did a good job getting you to like the female main character and hate the male character (villain of the story). The second half picked up and had the suspense. The ending was satisfying with all of the loose ends tied up, but the grand finale seemed somewhat unbelievable. Overall, it was worth the read and unlike any thriller that I’ve read before because the plot was unique. Four stars from me.
I enjoyed this glimpse into the competitive and hectic restaurant world. This atmospheric thriller entertained and gripped me from start to finish. There was a twist that changed the direction of the plot that completely took me by surprise. There were many times my mouth was watering as I read the tantalizing descriptions of the various gourmet dishes. The original plot and intriguing setting made this reading experience delectably delicious. Thank you, NetGalley and Inkubator Books for my copy.
I would recommend this book if you love fast paced with split timeline mysteries. Most of the story's point of view is from Sadie, the chef-Wanna-Be who is trying to hide her past and move on with her life.it overall made for a quick and fairly enjoyable read.
I don't think I've ever read a 'culinary thriller' before so I was excited to get into this one. It was an interesting read, with enough suspense and twists to keep me engaged. I enjoyed it on the whole, it's a fast paced read that holds its own.
Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. This was an engaging and well-written read. The book was well paced and Cupps used the dual narrative well. While the revelations and end was perhaps too rushed, the plot was excellent and the final twist very unexpected.
One Last bite is a fast-paced thriller set in the culinary industry; I particularly enjoyed how the author kept up the pace of the plot, whilst having detailed flavourful descriptions of culinary delights. I imagined from the book cover that the thriller aspect was going to involve poisoning or something food related, but it was far from that, and I was pleasently surprised. Teaches me to pre-judge based on a cover!
Instead the thriller aspect comes from the character relationships, and the culinary setting is secondary (although important in directing the character's motivations and actions).
Our main character Sadie is a flawed individual with an interesting backstory - this is a key aspect to my enjoyment of psychological thrillers; I find it really hard to get engaged in a good plot, if the characters do not have good development, and Leah Cupps definately delivered on this front!
The book was fast paced, and full of multiple twists. It was a delicious read, making me yearn for one last bite once I'd finished.
Thank you netgalley and Leah for allowing me to read a copy and share my view.
It was an easy read and got my attention right off the bat.
I didn't really connect with any of the characters, they were a smidge flat.
The way information is revealed is kind of silly. It's usually just by being in the right place at the right time and overhearing/seeing things that were meant to be private. Though "private" usually means loudly in the restaurant while it's full of customers and employees, or directly in front of windows.
The twist was pretty good, I definitely didn't expect it.
This was a 3.5 star read for me. The premise and the first half of the story is lifted straight from The Housemaid. Of course the setting is different but you'll find the characters in a similar situation.
The first twist was interesting and somewhat unbelievable. I mean unless you're identical twins, it's simply not possible in my opinion. I do understand and appreciate that they hired a whole new set of people at the new restaurant which helps me get past this piece.
I think the shift in Sadie also happens really abruptly. And Devon's behaviour flips really quickly too. It would have been nicer if that was a bit more nuanced. Also this grand plan that Sadie and Naomi come up with was quite underwhelming. I found myself disappointed- like that's it?
The final mild twist at the end was a nice way to wrap things
