A beautiful collection of poetry about grief and motherhood.

This little volume of poetry really packs a lot and the way it starts, oh, what a strong way to start and set the tone for the entire volume.

I am not a big reader of poetry, but I am trying, and I really enjoyed De Luca's book. The themes she covered go from grief to fear and the title of the book is perfect for what you will find inside. Her words are poignant and beautiful.

I struggled to connect with this collection. I understood all the themes explored within the pieces but I couldn’t connect with the writing. Poetry is personal so I don’t want to break down the poet’s experiences but I couldn’t find the depth and the rawness in the pieces when talking about topics like grief, death, motherhood and femicide, to name a few.

I enjoyed the poet’s perspective. I think her use of words was beautiful. She focuses on topics
that we struggle with as a society. I enjoyed this. If she published something else I would definitely read it.

This was such a powerful collection of poems that heavily centers grief and paints it brutal and beautiful. With only 48 short pages, I loved so many of the contributions from Dani De Luca. So glad I got the chance to read this. *Advance copy provided by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

This book was a beautiful collection of short poems. They were deep and thoughtful and I enjoyed the read. I felt that there was inconsistency between some of the poems almost as if a few were written by a different person.

This was a solid poetry collection. It was a solid three for the most part but there were a few poems that just were fantastic. Overall I give it a 3.5 stars and would read more by this author.

The first poem is fantastic, and probably my favorite. Dani De Luca explores the depths of society, self, and relationships in this brief collection. She touches on grief and violence in an incredibly articulate way.

I especially appreciate the experimental aspects of this, the subtle variations in style from poem to poem. Some weren’t for me, but the emotion drowned out any of my personal preferences for style.

Heartbreaking and beautiful, this deserves a read.

I don't read much poetry, but the title caught my attention. I enjoyed this book. I especially liked the last poem "After Another Death, My Son Asks About Mine & Where to Find Me."

What a beautiful piece of art! And what an amazing debut!

From loss, love, pain, birth and so so much love, Dani DeLuca took me traveling through so many emotions, such raw sentiments that may or may not have caused me to tear up a little. I have no words for how this book made me feel.

I feel honoured to have had the experience of reading this before it came out, and I do recommend this extraordinary poetry to all to read, feel and enjoy.

I am not one to actively seek out or read poetry, but I wanted to give this short book of poetry a try given the description on topics of grief and loss. I found each poem beautiful and honest. The central theme following the path of womanhood and motherhood: the beauty of young children growing up contrasting with the sadness of them growing up so quickly, the loss of a sense of self in the role of mother, the fear and worry of gun violence in schools the US, the heavy expectations placed on mothers and women, and the sadness and grief that comes with endings. This short collection of poems is a concise but emotion filled expression of motherhood today. I will be revisiting and re-reading it multiple times. Highly recommend. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy read.

Poignant, meaningful poetry. I rarely read poetry, but every now and then a title or theme speaks to me, as it was with this collection.
My favorite poem in this collection about grief, motherhood, and womanhood is Freshmen, but most in the second half really spoke to me and I will be re-reading this short little book multiple times.

The title of this poetry book is beautiful and is what initially drew me in to read it but the first poem had me hooked.

"The Noise of Falling" really stuck with me as it is so sad to see how humanity now favours being thin instead of being healthy, mentally and physically. My favourite quote "We commit to Killing ourselves slowly. Not the bullet but the celery" is hard hitting and sets the tone for the rest of the collection.

It covers subjects such as gun violence, loss and mother hood. Her writing is poignant and reflects feelings of anguish showing the pain this author feels raising her child in such a corrupt and dangerous world.

This book definitely deserves 4 stars!

Deep poems. As a man, I had to read this slow. The exploration of the beginning and the ending of human lives, and everything which falls in the unforeseen paths. This is for poetry lovers.

I liked it. It's really well written. This author Dani De Luca is fantastic and made every detail in this book amazing.

This short but provocative poetry book explores life and death and everything in between. Do not be tricked by it’s length, even though it has but 30 pages, it is a complex read and really demands thought.

Excellent, evocative volume. Short, but requires multiple reads to fully understand each of these poems, most dark with mourning or horror, intensely observant, yet knowing and reclaiming as well.

Some poems were very beautiful and some felt like simple would have been better. Would have enjoyed more simplicity.
