Macallan and Levi are best friends from the very first time they met. I absolutely adored their friendship! The ups and downs of junior high and high school are quite prevalent in this story and tests the limits of their friendship.
I thought these two were great characters. I loved the loyalty that was shown through thick and thin and the conflicts were realistic. Timing. Ugh. So much of this time of life is all about the timing. I would have loved to watch them together, but the timing never seems right for them to be more than just friends.
A sweet, YA book that takes you back in time.
Content: mild romance (talk of cheating, kissing, etc); mild language

This book was requested when I was young and requested more books than I could possibly read. Sadly, I no longer have access to this book and my tastes have changed. Thus I will not be able to give feedback on this title.
Purchased for my middle school library. Elizabeth Eulberg's story's are authentic, genuine and relevant. Give to students who enjoy sweet romances.
Didn’t read, don’t know why other than I got overloaded with other books that enticed me more than this story. Classic case of my eyes wanting more than my time would allow me to read. Sorry! I would have downloaded later but it wasn’t available when I had time and remembered.
Cute story about a middle-school friendship, its evolution into high school, and the will-they-or-won't-they romance question. It took a little while to get into the story, and I had some difficulty distinguishing who was speaking when Macallan and Levi jabbed back and forth at the end of each chapter. It also bugged me a little that Levi was the only one to ever apologize when troubles cropped up in their friendship -- would have been nice to see Macallan own up to her mistakes as well.
I received this book awhile back from Net Galley and recently discovered it in my to-be-read books. I found it sweet and endearing. Two childhood friends meet and realize they have an instant bond. Neither is interested, right away, in being boyfriend and girlfriend, and they discover they genuinely life each other. Gradually they do realize they love each other, but their timing is off and they are never on the same page. Macallan is guarded; she lost her mother at a young age and she knows loving and losing hurt a great deal. Levi is new to town and he wants to fit in, make friends, play sports and be one of the guys. Their friendship is deep, and their families become accepting and begin spending holidays and special events celebrating together, strengthening the bonds of friendship between all.
The story is told in the alternating voices of Macallan and Levi, and it is told from the view of looking back at their nearly instant friendship and how they ultimately fell in love. If Macallan and Levi had stayed "just" friends the book would be a clear indication that boys and girls can indeed be "just" friends. But the fact that they discovered mutual love is equally as nice - it was a win-win ending, overall.
I also fell in love with this quote at the end of the book -"But in truth, home isn’t necessarily where you sleep at night. It’s where you feel like yourself. Where you’re most comfortable. Where you don’t have to pretend, where you can be just you." Terrific point!
Macallan and Levi are friends at first sight. Levi is new to Macallan's high school and she shows him around, and then they find out they have a lot in common and they like the same TV show from the UK. They do everything together and they prove thay a guy and a girl can be just friends, nothing more. You see them almost always together: hanging out after school, share tons of inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of Macallan’s friends. Eventually they realize they’re best friends — which wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t keep getting in each other’s way. Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?
Better of Friends is a cute romantic YA novel. Its a sort of teenage When Harry Met Sally. I truly didn't know what to expect. I loved Elizabeth Eulbergs previous book Revenge Of The Girl With The Great Personality and I hoped it was the same kind of fast paced story. It is quite different from that book. This story was a bit slower and the tone was completely different. I think say the story didn't had the wow-factor that I think had Elizabeth's previous book, and I had the feeling during the book I was reading a teenage love story I have read in other books before. Levi and Macallan are circling around together as best friends, but suddenly the love flame does crosses over between them and they are in love. Not the most original, but the style of writing by Elizabeth Eulberg does make up for it: the characters where cute, realistic and believable.enjoyed this story so much is because of the witty dialogue between Macallan and Levi. This is a perfect spring read for all teens to enjoy!!
