Thank you NetGalley and Lauren Chatman for “Cookie Swap!”. I love to bake so was excited to get this book. I love that she says these parties don’t have to be just during the holidays, it can be fun anytime. The information on how to plan a swap is so helpful and the recipes sound wonderful. I will be baking and swapping with my nieces in 2 weeks!

Though you might associate cookie swaps with the Christmas holidays, the author contends they could happen anytime during the year. The first section of the book deals with the logistics of setting up a cookie swap, followed by a section focusing on ingredients for the pantry. Recipes are organized by cookie category. Each recipe is clearly described, accompanied by a small photo of an individual cookie. While the photos are very basic, they do the job, though more could be done to stage the cookies to make them look more appetizing. Recipe variations are also included for most recipes. Notes for possible "make ahead" options are also included. The font for the recipes themselves seems a bit tiny, but that's sometimes difficult to judge in an e-copy. The cookbook has a very old-fashioned feel to it--pastel colors and more traditional fonts.

The cookies included in this cookbook are quite basic--the type that would make nearly everyone's list of favorite cookies. There are a few interesting recipes not often seen in a cookie cookbook. For example: Cardamom Palmiers, Pistachio Sacristans, Ma'amoul Date Rose Shortbread Cookies (which I can't wait to try!) I"m not sure I'd encourage someone to purchase this cookbook unless they have absolutely no other cookie cookbooks. It's a nice basic starter cookbook, but I think the expert baker would find few enough unique recipes to make it worthwhile.

Thank you to Workman Publishing Company and NetGalley for providing an advance review copy of this book. My opinions are my own.

Worst time for my oven to go out! Now I want to make alllllll the cookies and bars!!! Such a terrific cookie cookbook! I wish the pictures were bigger but that could be an e-book thing. This would make an amazing Christmas gift. Maybe with a rolling pin and some cookie cutters.

Great read! I love to bake but have never been to a cookie swap before and this book made it seem super approachable to host one! A number of her recipes really appealed to me, including some savory cookies! She is a real one for including an iced Irish coffee recipe too. While the chapter on making things using store bought bases didn’t appeal to me, I enjoyed the rest of the book a lot.

The ultimate in-depth baking book that seems to describe nearly every kind of cookie. This is a must-have reference guide.

This is the cutest little cookie book. I mean, it’s literally all about cookies! The Cookie Monster could never.

It starts out with the basics — everything you need, strongly recommended preferences for the best flavored cookies in town, and a bit about the cookie swap. You’ll have to read it to find out.

But then, there are a ton (and I do mean a ton) of recipes (warning: they’re not ALL cookie recipes, but they do all look delicious). It’s actually so exciting. I may or may not be the Sugar Fairy herself.

I dubbed this year the year of baking as a hobby & I think I’ll start with this book. Yes, it is October. No, it doesn’t matter. However, I do think this inspired choice speaks to the power of this book.

Thank you #NetGalley for sharing this wonder with me 🍪

Cookie Swap! is a fun and well curated collection of cookie recipes by Lauren Chattman. Released 8th Oct 2024 by Hachette on their Workman Publishing imprint, it's 248 pages and is available in hardcover and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout.

This book really does have it all. There are cookies which are familiar and beloved of everyone - so it gets an A+ on completeness (a solid book). There are classics both easy and challenging for all occasions (mostly tending toward the easy end of the spectrum). The yields are generous and all of them are suitable/adaptable for gifting and sharing. The author has even included a primer for arranging a swap along with some "etiquette" suggestions. There are drop cookies, bars, shaped, and pretty much everything in between.

The photography is superb. This is a classic and comprehensive collection and will be a perennial go-to for both holiday and everyday uses. Five stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes

Lauren Chattman’s Cookie Swap is an absolute must have for the holidays or any time you feel like gathering up your friends and sharing a few sweet (or savory) treats. This book has everything you need to set up a successful cookie swap, from delicious recipes to organization tips to fun drinks that turn a cookie swap into a real party! Whatever your cookie taste is, you’ll find it here. There are drop cookies, bars, refrigerator cookies, shaped cookies and so much more. There are even savory offerings like her delicious Cayenne-Dusted Cheddar Coins and Black Pepper and Parmesan Animal Crackers Ms. Chattman also shares great tips for what supplies you’ll need, baking tips and advice on storing your tasty treats.

Ms. Chattman is knowledgeable, and her instructions are easy enough for even beginners to understand. She comes across less like a cookbook writer and more like that super fun neighbor you love to hang out with. Something I especially love is that every recipe has a photo of the finished cookie. I love everything about this book, even the cool retro-style cover. Grab a copy of Cookie Swap, and call your friends. You’ll have a great time!

I received an advance review copy of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I love doing cookie swaps, but I struggle with what would be popular, taste great, but also not super difficult. This book covers all that. I love that savory were also included.
If you're hosting, or if this inspired you to host, this has themes, some drink ideas, playlists, etc. Super fun!
I think this inspired me to try a swap this season!

Thank you to Workman Publishing Group and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is THE book for people who love cookie swaps or have always wanted to have one, or just people who love a variety of cookie recipes. The book starts with Cookie Exchange 101 and a chapter on ingredients, baking tools, and supplies for a swap.
Then come all the cookie recipes - drop, bars, flaky pastry, icebox, sandwich, shaped and cut, biscotti and mandelbrot, savory, and "shortcut" - those start with some kind of premade ingredient and get embellished. The last chapter has some drink recipes that would be great to serve at your swap or alongside cookies.
I loved that the book had things interspersed like theme ideas, music playlists, and more. All of the recipes had a color photo (some were small on the recipe pages), and many of the recipes had variation ideas. There were also ingredient substitution tips and info on how recipes could be made ahead and frozen.
Now I want to go plan my own cookie swap!

This is everything I wanted from a cookie recipe book. It features traditional classics, and new and original delicious treats. Being from the UK, cookie swaps are new to me, so I was really interested to read about such a lovely tradition. There’s something for everyone in here, from real crowd pleasers, to something a little different. I loved that there was a picture to show you what each bake looks like, I love the get ahead tips, I like the introduction to each recipe.
Would definitely recommend.

With thanks to the publisher, and to NetGalley, for an e-ARC to read and review.
