loved this romance and how the characters were able to figure things out and find their way to love. Loved the friends .
Sweet small town, romance!
I truly enjoyed it! Okay. Three stars?? Why only three stars if I liked it so much? I loved the settings and some of the characters (like shy Bill!) and MOST of the story…however, I didn’t like how the romance ended up occurring. It felt very short and you still don’t really get a good understanding of Tom. Also…I hate to critique this, because-to each their own BUT the sex scenes were a touch old fashioned…in the sense that, they started getting hot and heavy down stairs on the couch but then STOP and decide to go up to the bedroom. I don’t know about you all but, as a 28 year old, that would not happen with me and my husband if we were alone. Am I by myself in this?? Is it a UK thing to only have sex in the bedroom?? I have no idea. But that is why it is three starts for me. It was a happy ending but I was just disappointed by it.
Thank you to NetGalley, ChocLit, and Suzanne McCarthy for this ARC read, in exchange for my honest opinion!
Oh the perfect holiday book - this book has so much to give - believable characters, a good storyline (though slightly predictable), beautiful settings and a cute little dog. Really hope that Vicky finishes her book as I would love to read that too!
Will be looking out for more by this author.
Thank you for the chance to read it.
Vicky inherits her aunt Molly's cottage in beautiful Devon. we learn about Aunt Molly's life to. beautiful setting and good characters.
There is so many books at the moment this the same type of story line, this one is okay but the misunderstandings (and there were a few) did annoy me a bit, I know they are part of the story but a simple question would have cleared it up, it didn't put me off enough that i didn't want to get to the end.
The characters were nicely written and overall it was a nice summer read.

My first Susanne McCarthy book and I really enjoyed it!
For the most part, the story follows Vicky, who has just inherited her Aunt Molly’s cottage in beautiful Devon. Vicky’s ‘Fresh Start at Bramble Cottage’ unfolds just the way you want it to, love and happy ever afters! Okay, a bit predictable, but I liked that about it! It was so heartwarming ☺️
And then there’s the side story of Aunt Molly ~ Wow! What a life she lead and definitely scope for Molly’s own book in there!
Overall a lovely read and in my humble opinion worthy of 4 stars!
Thank you to @joffebooks and @choclituk for providing this advanced readers copy in return for an honest review via NetGalley. All opinion are my own
This was a beautiful story. I really enjoyed it. I found myself rooting For the good guys, the good characters and booing the bad ones, the mean ones
This was a wonderful read. Beautifully written with characters that were captivating. I just couldn't put it down. Bramble cottage sounded wonderful in a fantastic location who wouldn't want to live there and Vicky thought so too. I enjoyed the ongoing story about Vicky and her neighbouring farmer. I look forward to reading more from Susanne.
In the quaint village of Bramble, where cobblestone streets wind beneath ancient oaks and the scent of freshly baked bread dances on the breeze, lies the enchanting tale of "A Fresh Start at Bramble Cottage" by Susanne McCarthy. Picture yourself there, nestled within the cozy embrace of Lucy's new home, where every creak of the floorboards tells a story and every sunbeam through the window feels like a gentle caress.
As Lucy navigates the twists and turns of life in Bramble, you can't help but feel a kinship with her—a sense that her journey is your own, and her triumphs and tribulations are yours to share. Through her eyes, you see the village come alive: the bustling market square, the quaint little shops with their colorful awnings, and the friendly faces that greet you at every turn.
But beneath the surface beauty of Bramble lies a deeper truth—a truth about second chances, new beginnings, and the resilience of the human spirit. As Lucy grapples with the ghosts of her past and learns to open her heart to the possibility of love, you're reminded that it's never too late to start again—to chase your dreams, mend old wounds, and embrace the beauty of the present moment.
With its lyrical prose and heartfelt storytelling, "A Fresh Start at Bramble Cottage" is more than just a book—it's a journey of the soul, a reminder that no matter where life may lead you, there's always the promise of a fresh start waiting just around the corner. So whether you're a young woman seeking adventure or an older woman longing for a taste of nostalgia, let Lucy's story be your guide as you embark on your own journey of self-discovery and renewal.
A Fresh Start At Bramble Cottage is a fun, breezy, romantic read. The main characters are easily likeable, though they each make their share of mistakes. It's clear that Vicky is looking for something different in life from the start, and it's fun to read how she reconnects with people from the small village where her Great-Aunt Molly had lived.
I particularly enjoyed the seaside setting and the set of colorful local characters. Not to mention the surety that these two characters would eventually fall in love! Tom of course has his gruff moments but it's clear that he's a decent person who cares about his family farm. Vicky is engaged to another man at first and it's fairly clear that she won't stay with him long, but the question is--how will she manage to change her life?
The story of the recently deceased Molly is another fascinating aspect of the book--it's great to see how Vicky comes to admire and respect her relative for the way she had lived her life. And of course, a discovery within the cottage Vicky receives creates plenty of excitement!
A lovely, quick read. I laughed and really enjoyed the way the book developed.
Vicky inherits a cottage from a relative, the story develops with her decisions about the cottage and her personal life.
Thank you to Netgalley and Choclit for the ARC copy to read.
Brilliant read.
Vicky has been left a cottage by her estranged aunt she plants to refurbish and sell on quickly after all she has a fiancée a job and a life in London. But things change when she gets down to the cottage and remembers how much she loved it as a child coming for holidays
She then finds her fiancée cheating so packs up and decides to keep Bramble cottage and of course the gorgeous farmer Tom next door dosnt influence her decision at all or does it?
Loved this book and hope to read this author in future
I was giving an advanced copy for my review. This is my honest review that I am leaving voluntarily. This was not for me. The chapters were really long, a lot of details were given and it was really hard to get a sense of the pace. I couldn't emotionally connect with the characters and you could guess the outcome pretty easily. For anyone looking for a hallmark type easy read I think you would really enjoy this.
A lovely book very entertaining and funny. I enjoyed this one alot. Sometimes there were grumpy people in it other times it was sweet. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Absolutely loved this book, a new author for me and she did not disappoint me at all! Loved every second of it, The characters and their character ARC were very relatable and felt real. And who doesn't love a happy ending for everyone?? Waiting for more from this author!!
The publisher’s blurb for A Fresh Start at Bramble Cottage promised it to be a feel good romance, and it is just that. It was a perfect escapist story with lots of heart.
The main character, Vicky, inherits her great aunt’s cottage in Devon. She plans to fix it up and sell it, but finds herself falling in love with the village and its inhabitants. Simultaneously, she is falling out of love with her London fiancé, and begins to picture a different life for herself.
I loved the descriptions of the villagers and the area. There was a bit of a mystery in discovering her great aunt’s early life. When Vicky learns that her great aunt lived life to the fullest, it emphasizes the fact that Vicky has been just settling and it gives her the courage to change.
I enjoyed every minute of this read.
This cozy little romance reads like a Hallmark movie. The pacing was a little uneven, you rooted for the characters but there wasn't much emotional investment in them, and it all ended up exactly how you'd imagined it would, no real surprises. Despite that it was a pleasant easy read, and there were a lot of bits that I did really enjoy.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
This is full of emotions but not only the book but of the reader as well.. Based down in Devon with a city girl as the main character. What will happen to her life while there, read it to find out. It would be lovely if this could be a story continued with at least one more book. Well worth 5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley, author and publisher for this ARC
This is a touching story. It will bring you some tears and some laughing tears. It was so fun to watch Vicky discover so much about her Aunt Molly. Vicky was left her aunt Molly's cottage after she had passed. She hadn't been to see her for over 17 years. The locals at first didn't take well to it, especially Tom thinking Molly was just going to fix it up and sell it. Bringing in just another "summer family". But as Molly slowly starts to learn more about Molly and starts to feel welcome in the village maybe selling isn't something she wants to do.
At some points I felt that Vicky was all alone and that was upsetting. Her mum never seemed to fully support her, you could sense that through the phone calls. Then lets not even get started on her fiancé turned ex-fiancé and her step sister. But Vicky was strong and over came all that was thrown at her and found love along the way.
