This was my first book by this author. Although it was part of a series, I think it worked okay as a standalone novel. I really love stories that are set in the bayou of Louisiana. I enjoyed the characters, and I thought that this book had solid writing. I think this was a great thriller, and I will be going back to see other works by this author.

Not bad, but not what I was expecting. I thought the story was slower than normal but still moved at a decent pace. The plot was good, the characters well done, and the suspense was on point. I just would have liked it to move faster.

I've never read a Tami Hoag book before and didn't realize this book was a part of a series. I truly enjoyed reading this. The mystery was compelling and the characters were interesting. I loved the setting of the Louisiana Bayou. I feel like sometimes mysteries/thrillers/suspense rely on a lot of shock value, but this one felt more like a character study. I liked that change of pace. After finishing this book, I immediately grabbed the first two in the series, which I am very much looking forward to reading. Fans of mystery and suspense will likely enjoy this book.

This is the third book in a series, and I didn’t read the first two, so I felt a bit lost at times. The story follows a detective named Elena who is investigating a case involving a missing person and a possible cover-up. While the plot had some good twists and kept me engaged, I struggled to connect with the characters fully, especially without knowing their backstories. That said, the suspense was strong, and I still enjoyed the mystery. I’d recommend starting from the beginning of the series to get the full experience.

Bad Liar is the third book in the Broussard and Fourcade series. I wasn’t familiar with the previous books and unknowingly requested this one, not realizing it was part of an ongoing series. Despite not knowing how the first two books unfolded, the characters were well-developed. However, it felt like a slow burn to me, possibly because I wasn’t fully invested in their backstory.

I’ve heard so many great things about the author nd figured I’d be able to get over it being a series I haven’t read. Instead I admit I felt like I should read the others and I just don’t have time so my experience feels incomplete.

The hometown hero has disappeared. His mother is worried sick but his brother could care less due to jealousy. Sheriff Detective Nick Fourcade has the case and keeps hitting road blocks. Sheriff Detective Annie Broussard is back at work and trying to get back into the swing of things.

I enjoyed this book due to the suspense.

Tami Hoag's Bad Liar is the third installment in the Broussard and Fourcade series, set in the atmospheric backdrop of Louisiana's French Triangle. The novel opens with a gruesome discovery: a body found near a swamp, its face and hands obliterated by a shotgun blast, rendering identification challenging. Detectives Nick Fourcade and Annie Broussard are thrust into a complex investigation that intertwines with the disappearance of a local man, leading them through a web of deceit, family secrets, and small-town politics.

While the novel boasts a compelling premise and a richly described setting, it falters in several key areas. The pacing is uneven; after an engaging start, the narrative becomes bogged down with extraneous details and subplots that detract from the main storyline. There were also some mistakes within the "police procedural" related to technology and evidence.

2.5/5 ⭐

I have been a fan of Tami Hoag for decades, so I had to read this one.

Set in the Louisiana bayou, the characters are interesting, the atmosphere is a dark yet charming, and the story is one that you can't put down. What a wild ride through the swaps.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I have read lots of Tami Hoag books over the years. This is my first of this series and I did not realize it was the third one until well into the book. Set in the bayou it is an interesting mystery, but not one of her best. I struggled through parts of it but maybe it is just me. As I read the reviews of others I saw mixed reviews so this one is also. If you are a Tami Hoag fan and certainly if you are familiar with this series I would encourage you to read this one. Thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

If something happens to someone with a less than stellar reputation is there anyone that will fight for them? In this case it is sheriff’s detective Annie Broussard. As a mother herself she can't help but want to help even though it complicates what was supposed to be a slow return back to work. Annie and her husband Nick don't go into anything slowly. Engaging read that you hope the entire time for a good ending.

I picked up this book not realizing it’s third in a series. The book is set in a small bayou town. A deceive finds a body. Another detective finds a couple missing people and they try to figure out if it’s all connected. I thought this was a decent police procedural but it did get bogged down in the politics of the office and the relaying of information from one person to another.

Description
Small-town labels are hard to shake. Hometown hero. Fallen angel. Can anyone ever escape their past?

A murder victim dumped at the dead end of a lonely country road, face and hands obliterated by a shotgun blast, is not the way sheriff’s detective Nick Fourcade wants to start his week. His only lead takes him to the family of a hometown hero suddenly gone missing. Marc Mercier left his home for a weekend hunting trip and hasn’t been seen since.

Meanwhile, sheriff’s detective Annie Broussard begins her first day back on the job after suffering a brutal attack by taking on the case of B’Lynn Fontenot, a mother desperate to find her grown son, a recovering drug addict. Robbie Fontenot has been missing for eight days, but the local police have no interest in the case, telling B’Lynn that an adult has the right to disappear, and a missing addict is no big surprise. But B’Lynn swears her son was turning his life around. Sympathetic to a mother’s anguish, Annie agrees to help B’Lynn, knowing she’s about to start a turf war with the city police.

As Annie searches for Robbie Fontenot and Nick investigates the disappearance of Marc Mercier, it quickly becomes apparent that nothing is as it seems in the lives of either man. And it’s still not clear whether either—or neither—of them might be the unidentified murder victim. Old jealousies and fresh deceits, family loyalties gone wrong and love turned sour all lay a twisting trail that leads deep into the Louisiana swamp, endangering all who cross the path of a bad liar.

This is the third book in the Broussard and Fourcade series. It took a few chapters for me to get invested in this book, but I am so glad I stuck it out. I love Annie and Nick and love how the cases they are investigating interweave. Great story from Tami Hoag.

It had been a while since I'd read a Tami Hoag book, and this one did not disappoint. A few seemingly separate stories coalesce suspensefully in this can't-put-it-down thriller.

I have read Tami Hoag before and really enjoyed her writing. This was no exception. This is book 3 of this series, I have not read the other 2 and was able to follow what was going on. I may go read the first 2 to get the back story of Nick & Anne.
I liked Anne and her husband Nick. I was impressed how Nick can be protective of his wife, but know that she is a cop like him.
This starts with a body found by the water, then a missing person, then another missing person. While it seems they are separate it isn't long before they are linked.
This book was a little slow at the start, but when it picked up, it was full steam ahead.
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the advanced copy

First few pages I wasn’t sure what I was reading. Then the story line developed and I totally enjoyed the who done it and the characters. Murders, missing persons and plenty of clues and outcomes to think about. Recommended read for mystery lovers.
