I felt fortunate to get an ARC of 'Bad Liar' by Tami Hoag. This is book 3 in Broussard and Fourcade. However, I think this could be read as a standalone. After reading the synopsis, I'm sure you are wondering why I'm giving this a 5 star. I like the way Tami writes 'she shows not tell'. Doesn't fill her books with unnecessary side stories...or lagging descriptions. I love it when I'm blindsided or twists and turns in a book. I have to like the main characters and I do like them both (husband and wife team), it was wonderful 'seeing' them again. The book has to be a mystery that I'm interested in, yes, the book kept me interested and on my toes. One dead body, two missing men. Tami Hoag is always a must read for me. Some romance with mystery....to me that's like chocolate with PeanutButter.
Thank you Tami Hoag for giving us a new novel. You’ve been sorely missed.
Bad Liar was worth the long wait. Even though it’s been years since I’ve read the earlier books in this series, it stands alone and on top.
Every character is fully developed and I found myself fighting for, being angry with and loving and aching for them.
This book covers quite a bit of ground and while all lives intersect at a certain point there are several stories to be told. The writing is atmospheric and visual. You can imagine each location: the junk yard, the stables, the hospital, the Pizza Hut, the Bayou and more.
It’s been a long time since I’ve cried at the end of the book. This one got my heart and shattered it into a million pieces.
Thank you Penguin Group Dutton and NetGalley for my advanced reader copy. Bad Lair will be released 9/24/24. All opinions are my own.
I had to re-read The Boy before this one, it felt like it had been a while before I sat with these characters but then I was sucked in and went right from The Boy to Bad Liar with no break. Great characters, good mystery and the way all the threads splinter apart, come back together, reference prior mysteries really worked for me.
I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
I’m so glad Tami Hoag is writing again, I love her books! Two men missing- one dead body…Nick and Annie have their work cut out for them, You will want to grab this exciting read!
Tami Hoag's Bad Liar takes us deep into the corruption of small town Louisiana. From high school on, devious behavior is highlighted and the police are not exempt. The characters are well-developed and the mystery runs deep as Hoag takes us into this world we would likely never see for ourselves.. Perhaps the story could have been shortened a bit. For me, there was too much conversation between the cops. But all in all, a good read.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.
The story flowed well and the characters were well developed. I recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.
****Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review****
I have been reading Tami Hoag’s books since I was a teenager. They have always been dark and disturbing, but this was the first one that actually made me emotional. A heartbreaking story of addiction, derailed dreams, wasted lives, you name it. I found myself very sad when I got to the end.
