The Hospital by Leslie Wolfe is a stand-alone read.
After Emma Duncan wakes up in a hospital after a brutal attack, she has zero memory of what brought her here other than the need to protect herself. She knows that someone is trying to kill her.
The book starts out strong but drags until the end. I was disappointed in the book. It had a great teaser for it, but it fell flat for me.
The book was OK their premise of the book was really good I just thought it dragged a little too much but the Twist and the ending was really good I never figured out that twist.
Emma wakes up in a hospital, unable to move, eyes and head wrapped and remembers nothing about how she got there. After the head trauma she incurred, she is told, this is not unusual and it will take time. But how long does this reader have to wait?
I had drawn my own correct conclusions of the where and the how but not the who---- there were several candidates who we were introduced to along the way, all of them worthy of the reader's speculation.
My impatience wanted Emma to be more aggressive when she had glimmers of mobility and sanity.
The pace picked up at the end and provided the excitement and intrigue I was looking for.
This was brilliant. Very gripping and hard to put down. A very clever plot indeed. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Imagine slowly coming to consciousness and coming to realize that you can't move, you can't open your eyes, and you have no idea of where you are or what has happened to you. You slowly start recalling running from someone but can't recall from whom or why. You only know you were running for your life. This is how The Hospital begins. It engaged me from the beginning and kept me throughout the book. I became caught up in Emma's fear.
As Leslie usually does, the story focuses on the protagonist while giving us insights from the antagonist. As Emma begins remembering her life, I was led to believe first one person then another was responsible for Emma's plight. As the action picked up I began reading faster, racing through the pages to the exciting conclusion
I gave this book 5 stars. I have not read alot by Leslie Wolfe but I will start now. This book had me hooked immediately. A story where someone who does not know who they are is usually fun! This book has a lot of twists and turns! You will not regret reading this one I assure you!
This book had so much potential but I was not super into it due to it feeling very repetitive. I didn’t fully figure out the ending but had an idea of what was going to happen. I did however like the flow of the story and that the FMC was unreliable, it kept the book interesting.
I enjoyed this read even though it dragged on a little with all the flashbacks. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, you can’t put it down as you can’t wait to find out what happens next. The characters were great, the story itself has plenty of twists and turns with a brilliant ending and the style of writing was perfect.
I have read other books by this author and I have loved them all. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to read psychological thrillers.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.
i dont like giving bad reviews but i also like to be honest as thats what we are here for i tried picking this up a few times and struggled too get into it finally got through it - though the beginning interested me i do prefer fast paced reads and this was a bit slow for me and predictable in places which is dissappointing.
I didn’t finish this book. I could not get into the characters and I felt the main characters inability to remember events went on so long I got bored.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I thought I wasn't going to like this book. It was slow at the beginning and it felt like there was no story. The FMC was in the hospital and couldn't remember anything. It wasn't until maybe halfway through that the story picked up. Once the FMC started remembering things, it started getting good.
The first twist was obvious to me.
The other twist was a good one. I felt like the stalker was someone she knew but wasn't expecting who it really was!
Also, the other characters were so irritating. I feel like FMC needs better friends/people in her life.
I didn't like that there were a few loose ends. I would have liked to know how some of the other characters took the twist.
I loved 'The Surgeon' so I was excited to see that there was another book by the author. Sadly this one didn't live up to expectations. Emma has a job she loves, a handsome husband, lives in a beautiful home with an even nicer hideaway by Lake Tahoe. When she wakes up unable to move, her eyes bandaged & in great pain she has little or no idea how she got there. Slowly (very slowly!) she tries to make sense of things. It appears the loving husband isn't. They are separated. In fact he has a new woman lined up & wants Emma to sign over the Lake Tahoe house. Emma gradually remembers she had been scared of a stalker- did he do this to her, or was it closer to home?
This was a good idea & the author certainly captured Emma's feelings of helplessness. However I found it very slow going & the least said about the 'twist' the better! Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
This was such a brilliantly written book. I loved it from start to finish, and what a whirlwind of a story it was. There were so many times that I thought I’d worked out what was what, only to be flummoxed yet again. I couldn’t decide who were the good characters and who were the bad ones, and although I thought I’d worked it all out about three-quarters of the way through, I couldn’t be sure and there were lots more twists to come.
I listened to this one as an audiobook, and the narrator, Tanya Eby, was really good. I’ve listened to books which she has narrated before and always enjoyed them. She played Emma, the female main character, well, and as with any good narrator, I could well believe that she actually was Emma, lying in that hospital bed.
One of the best thrillers I’ve listened to (or read) for a long time, and although this was my first by Leslie Wolfe, it definitely won’t be my last. There were so many moments when I thought ‘no way’, that can’t be how it happened and I loved that I was kept guessing the whole way through.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to listen to The Hospital by Leslie Wolfe.
Emma is awake and knows very little about her life. She knows her name, that she was attacked, and she is in the hospital, She can’t move, can’t see, and has no idea who she can trust. As her memories start coming back to her in pieces she realizes no one will save her and she must save herself.
I have mixed feelings about this one. It was a quick read and I was engaged, but it just seemed like something was missing. It could have been told in about half the pages to keep the action up.
A quick read but a little too predictable for me,
The beginning was very slow and sluggish for my liking and the second half I had figured out everything out before it happened.
I had high hopes before beginning but this one was a miss for me,
Thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for the advanced copy.
The blurb got me on this one.
Emma Duncan wakes up in a hospital and she's only positive of three things - her name is Emma, someone tried to kill her, and she has no idea who it was. Trapped in a hospital bed with little to no memory of her past, and is told by doctors that the bandages over her eyes are to protect them as her visual cortex has been affected by swelling in her brain. The doctor assures her its only temporary, but as days pass, Emma isn't so sure. She's trapped in a hospital bed and is completely at the mercy of the people around her. When her husband eventually visits, she discovers they divorced nearly three years ago and it makes her wonder what else she has forgotten.
Ok. Premise? Sold. I'm in, 100%. The book started out so, so strong. But then it...fell off. As the reader I had to do a lot of work to keep up with what was going on as there wasn't always the best delineation between what was happening in the present and what was Emma's remembering/dreaming of the past. As the story moved forward, it got harder and harder to suspend my disbelief that what was happening could ACTUALLY happen to/with someone. There were so many moving pieces, and i have a very hard time believing any nurse worth her salt wouldn't ask questions about what was going on with Emma.
I will say the reveal surprised me, but I don't know if that was because it was truly surprising or if I had just forgotten the person in question existed.
This book gave me some PTSD as I have suffered from a TBI and lost some of my memory. Other than that the book was extremely fast paced and it was very hard for me to put down.
It took me a while to get into this book and really understand how it was going to resolve. The first half was about set up and the final half was so good. It kept me totally engaged and I wanted to know what was going to happen - no I didnt guess until near the end.
Another one of Leslie’s books I flew through. This story really sucked me in. Even though I figured out who the attempted murderer was fairly early in the story, there were still so many twisted parts of the story that I needed to keep reading to see how it all came to a head.
Emma wakes up in a hospital bed knowing someone attempted to kill her, but has no idea who that is. She doesn't remember that she's divorced, or why. The only way for her to get answers is from her visitors and the doctors and nurses who come to her room.
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for my ARC of this book.
I’ve never read a book by this author before but I have read friends reviews from one of her other books which was encouraging.
When I saw this one come up I thought it sounded really good so looked forward to starting it.
I can’t help but feel I’ve read other books with this type of them and did it well holding my attention.
This one was pretty hard work from a readers point of view, the line between past and present was not always distinct and some things should have been so exciting….tense….however, it didn’t come across that way to me honestly.
Hard review to write because it had such potential to excel.
I’m no expert I just know that as a thriller it wasn’t tense enough for me.
Conclusion
Was good and had the potential to be better.
