This book had me captivated from beginning to end! The author really made me feel like what was happening to the main character, Emma, was happening to me. It was kinda frightening! This is the second book I’ve read by Leslie Wolfe. I love her writing style. I couldn’t put this book down!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

A quick read – well written with a lovely character in Emma but a somewhat unrealistic plot.

Emma wakes up with no memory of what happened to her. She remembers her name and that she survived an attack. She is told she is in Baldwin Memorial Hospital in the care of Dr Sokolowski. Dr Sokolowski tells her that she has considerable brain swelling due to which she cannot yet see, but expects it to get better. There are bandages on her head and eyes. Nurses Isabella & Jasmine take turns in caring for her. Over the next hours, she remembers more – she is an actress and was married to Steve, she stays in her house in Lake Tahoe. She remembers that she and Steve are divorced, and she has been in another relationship. Her agent Denise, friend Lisa, Steve and his girlfriend Mikela visit her, and each of these visits triggers a few memories. Emma also remembers a stalker and is afraid that whoever had attacked her will return. There is also the perspective of an unnamed person who is drawn to Emma.

I liked how the writing conveys the tension Emma feels – not knowing whom she can trust and her not being able to see. While the reveal on who attacked Emma, getting her to hospital has a surprise element - as is the case with many psychological thrillers, the story is far-fetched.

My rating: 3.5 / 5.

Having read Lesley Wolfe's previous thriller I eagerly started this one. I was not disappointed.

What a gripping read. I flew throught this book and was totally engrossed.

4 stars. Thank you for the opportunity to review

If you love the movie Sightless, then this is for you.

Emma who woke up in a hospital, she can't move, she can't see and she got amnesia. It's obvious that she's been in an accident since she remembered being chased down by her stalker. We follow her journey juggling these emotions regarding the accident and her remembering her past.

It's a slow paced book to the point that I'm really indifferent with the characters. I didn't connect with Emma, although I was curious as to who was the stalker but we also had some crumbs as to who. I did want Emma to get together with her stalker at some point lol (wrong genre for sure).

It's a good book for those who wanted to explore the thriller genre.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy of The Hospital. This was a WILD RIDE!!! Who thinks of plots like these??? It was a real psychological, crazy story. I was very frustrated for Emma, such a predicament she was in. I was trying to figure out who I could trust and my mind changed constantly. Loved the ending, a GREAT, CANNOT PUT IT DOWN BOOK!!!

Leslie Wolfe’s new thriller is a slow builder oozing with creepy tension from the very start.

Emma finds herself in hospital, paralysed and blind, with no memory of what happened to put her there, surrounded only by hospital tannoys and the sound of ambulances coming in and out.

Very slowly, Emma’s memories start to return, but there are small things that don’t quite add up, causing Emma (and me!) to question everyone, from her best friend, to her doctor. Someone wants to keep her there in the hospital, but who? And why?

I did work out who it was fairly early on as there is a section in the book that quite pointedly excludes all but one person, but I still found the ride exhilarating and the ending was intense and action packed.

Chilling and compulsive reading.

4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Leslie Wolfe and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Thank you to Leslie Wolfe, Bookouture, and NetGalley for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

When I wake up, I know three things. My name is Emma. Someone tried to kill me. And I can’t remember who.
When I blink, my eyelashes brush against scratchy cloth. My fingers twitch, numb and distant. In the distance, sirens wail. I’m in the hospital.
I should be safe here, but I know I’m not. The last thing I remember is running, seeing an arm raised to strike… Why would anyone want to kill me?
Desperately, I piece together my scattered memories. I’m standing with my husband on sugar-white sand, our rings glinting in the sunlight. I’ll get better, and I’ll go home to him, and he will protect me.
But when he visits, his new girlfriend is on his arm. He tells me we got divorced three years ago, and my world falls apart. What else have I forgotten?
The only way I can keep myself safe is to uncover the answers buried deep in my mind. But as I talk to my visitors—listening to the gentle tones of the doctors and nurses, grateful for the care of my friends and family—I start to see the lies that contradict what I remember of my life.
They say it’s just my broken memory. But I know the shocking truth: I can’t trust a word anyone says…

This book starts off slow, but I really enjoyed how the story develops especially with it being a medical type drama. Full of red herrings and twists, I was intrigued the entire way through. I found myself, at times, confused which allowed me to relate to Emma's current state of confusion. I think of how many times something crosses our mind and we're taken back to the memory away from the present. The flashbacks were similar to what we all experience in real life. It's not a unique storyline, but I found it to be completely plausible and the realism in the story made it quite the tense journey. It left me wanting to read more from Wolfe and I think you should give it a try when it releases on May 24, 2024.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC!

Emma can only be certain that someone attempted to kill her when she awakens in a hospital bed, blind and with most of her memory gone. She forces her thoughts to put together fragments of her memories, unsure of who attempted to hurt her and why. It quickly becomes clear from the alternate point of view that Emma has a stalker, but is it the person who has wounded her?

It took some getting used to in this book's writing style. It was a very slow burn and I found myself skipping some parts. There were great twists and turns throughout the book!

I really enjoyed this book I don’t usually like books that revolve around hospital drama but I was pleasantly surprised by this. I was gripped from the first chapter and found it difficult to put down. The story flowed throughout with a tension which kept on building. The writing style and character development was good overall this was a fantastic thriller which I highly recommend. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy.

This was a really good read. I like hospital type novels and whilst this was similar to many others in the genre, it was still an enjoyable novel.

The premise of the book is great and the ending explained it all.
I guess I just did not understand all the characters being in the book when they really did not give much to the storyline. I would have enjoyed learning about the relationship with her mother a bit more.

Having previously read The Surgeon, I was looking forward to reading this book by the same author. In the latest novel, Emma Duncan, an actress, wakes up to find herself in a hospital bed, unable to move or see. She appears to be in the emergency ward of a hospital but things are not as they seem and she has to work out who attacked her and what is going on before she is attacked again. Unfortunately, Emma is suffering from retrograde amnesia, which prevents her from piecing together the memories leading up to the attack.

I found the story gripping, even though I quickly guessed who was behind Emma's predicament. This didn't matter as the suspense still built up as Emma struggled to make sense of it all. the only slight criticism I have is that, once Emma realised what was going on, the ending came very suddenly. I think the author may have missed a trick by not spinning out the denouement once Emma recognised what was happening and knew who was controlling the situation. Nevertheless, this was a most enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more by Leslie Wolfe.

In “The Hospital”, Emma wakes up initially not knowing where she is but remembers she was running from someone. Someone who was trying to kill her. Someone who has been stalking her. As a reader you are learning from Emma through her internal thoughts as she struggles to piece together her life up until her attack. This takes place over a span of days as she’s trying to recover from a traumatic brain injury, and remembering more and more about her life. Will she remember before her stalker comes back for her?

Thank you #Netgalley for the ARC of this book. This was my first Leslie Wolf book. While I really enjoyed the characters and the plot of this book, I had a hard time reading some chapters because they were so slow! Other than that this book was great!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
I am a great fan of this author's work and this book is as good as the others I've read. Leslie is excellent at delivering twisted thrillers with unexpected outcomes, and the plot of this story is completely unique. The narrative is extremely well -written, so much so that I felt Emma's worries about what had happened to her and the constant threat of who had hurt her. Leslie described her feelings of confusion, lack of sight and inability to do anything for herself so well that I felt as though I was living in her head with her!
A superb book, I couldn't put it down, don't give in to the temptation to turn to declarations of pages without working through all the twists and turns!

“The Hospital” is by Leslie Wolfe. The premise of this book rather attracted me, so I was thrilled to be able to read it. If this had been Ms. Wolfe’s first book, my comments would be less harsh - but the pacing was really off in this book. The first part was slow with numerous flashbacks that melded into the story so that I, at least, was confused about flashback vs current timeline. This book is definitely a slow burn type of book. I did like the premise and I thought the plot idea was a good one. If this was the author’s first book, I’d give it a four star rating, but as it’s her third, my rating is a bit lower. However, this does not shy me away from wanting to read her previous or future books - sometimes a book is just not completely a good fit for me. If you like medical setting dramas with flashbacks, stalkers, and some Hollywood drama thrown in - this might be one to pick up for a quick read.

You’ll have no other choice but to give yourself over to the suspense and heart pounding emotions in this thriller. Wow, this one is addictive, to say the least.

When Emma wakes up after a brutal attack, she can’t see and she can’t move. She also can’t remember anything but her name. She comes to the realization that she’s in the hospital, but can only use her auditory skills to solve the mystery of how and why she is there. Who can she trust? Why did someone try to kill her?

With the twists and pulsating drama, you’ll be reading this one late into the night. I highly recommend this one, though with a few trigger warnings (abuse, stalking, traumatic brain injury). Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced readers copy.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this book, with my honest review below.

If you’re feeling the an empty spot on your shelves for a spooky thriller then The Hospital by Leslie Wolfe will absolutely be one you have to check out. The mystery here is so well done, with Emma, an actress, waking up in the hospital with no memory from the past few years but something telling her she was just attacked. Complete with a stalker and shady individuals around her, she isn’t sure who is after her or why but knows that someone is. The mystery deepens as Emma starts to remember, or is told, bits and pieces of her past. And naturally, nothing at all is as it seems.

I didn’t guess the ending at all and loved the discoveries Emma made and all the intrigue around who was after her. This was so well done, it’s the perfect mystery. Maybe it was Emma’s paralysis and blindness but I had shivers throughout. I’d easily recommend this for anyone who wants a good mystery to try to solve!
