Wow wow wow!! I loved this book!! What a heart pounder!! This book was very thrilling !! Lots of action, suspense, drama with plenty of twists and turns! Wow I did not expect this book to be like it was! I highly recommend reading this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Emma Duncan is an actress struggling to find meaningful roles after winning a Best Actress award and a divorce. She is being stalked. Suddenly, she wakes up in a hospital blind and unable to move. With gaps in her memory, Emma must piece together what happened. The Hospital is a quick read and gave me Frieda McFadden vibes. The alternating points of view didn’t always flow smoothly for me, unlike Wolfe’s previous book, The Surgeon, which I liked better.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read The Hospital.
“Whatever I’ve been running from has caught up with me.“
Wow, just wow! This is definitely a read for fans of Freida McFadden. It is amazingly written and will grip you right from the start. It is a dual POV, going between Emma and the stalker.
Emma is in hospital, heavily medicated, and cannot see anything. She is feeling like she can’t trust anyone, even those who are closest to her. She is desperately trying to piece together all the memories of her life in the hope that she’ll figure out who tried to kill her. Each chapter left me questioning everything; I could not put the book down!
4/5 stars because I did guess quite early on who the stalker was, but I was shocked at the twist of the real identity of the stalker!
Many thanks to Net Galley & Bookouture for this ARC.
Emma is attacked, and wakes up in hospital with brain trauma and blindness. She also has no memory, except for her name.
She is heavily medicated and only trusts the doctor that is attending to her. She eventually regains partial memories, and is convinced she knows who the attacker was.
I have previously read two of Leslie Wolfe's books, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
This one? Not so much.
Some would say that it is a slow burn, but to me, the first 75% of the book is ultra slow. Just a little too long.
However, I was surprised at the twist in the story, and for that, am awarding a 3/5.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
This book was such an adrenaline rush, straight away I was drawn into the book and it just kept getting better. It was a very thrilling and fast paced read.
Oh wow, this must be one scary experience. Waking up after an attack and realising you don't know who you can trust, being afraid of everybody and trying to piece together you has put you there.
The only person who can help you is you and this means you have to find the answers and soon.
The first part of the book is rather slow paced and I was wondering where the author would take us. Often pieces of the past and the present were mixed together in one chapter and that's the way it goes in real life too. You are somewhere and something reminds you of the past and you zone out, to be brought back to the present when something or someone startles you.
The more Emma, our protagonist, realises what is going on, the more I was dragged into the story and the pace picked up. The more I read the more I liked it. I found it a brilliant story.
The things some people do for love, or love the way they see it. Love has to be something both people feel comfortable with and not a toxic one.
I just loved it. 5 stars
Thnk you
This book was great! It was definitely a roller-coaster, filled with twists and turns. I couldn't wait to find out how it all ended, and I was not disappointed! I've read a couple of books by this author, and enjoyed them very much. I can't wait to read more of her books!
I absolutely could not put this down! I read in 2 days! There are twists and turns at every corner of this book and you will not be disappointed. If you love Freida McFadden run and get this! Leslie Wolfe is fantastic and this book is great! Top thriller 5 star for sure!
Talk about surprises and red herrings. This talented author wrote the book on those two strategies. This story that is fiction reads somewhat like nonfiction. This could happen. I guessed at some of the revelations, but I did not even think about others. The main character came to life on these pages. The other characters added to this fast paced mystery...intrigue...friends and family...doctors...nurses...medical issues...this was one novel that will be remembered. I liked this book so much. Thanks Netgalley.
A fast paced thriller which overall i enjoyed.
I found myself wondering what was in Emma's head and trying to work out what was real. Mainly who could she trust. So good writing.
I had a few problems with the then and now chapters also without giving anything away what Emma was capable of doing at the end i found a little far fetched.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.

Leslie Wolfe’s previous two books were really strong. I read them in a couple of hours. She is a compelling writer who does a lot of research and still brings difficult topics to you with an easy flow. So onto the next one, I said!
Emma wakes up in the hospital. Her memory is missing h huge chunks, for the life of her she cannot remember how she got there. Another complication? She cannot see anymore!
Slowly parts of her memories resurface. She has a stalker, but it that who almost liked her?
That sounds like such a great story! Unfortunately the writing did not convince me this time around. The dual time line changed often within a single chapter, no notice and I had a real hard time keeping up with that. I felt as lost as Emma did at times. Though I am not sure if that was intentional.
The first half was really slow, the second half felt like I was stuck in a Ferrari. The pacing was too inconsistent for my liking.
While this had a strong concept, it was a bit of a mixed bag for me.
⭐️Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my advanced copy. All opinions are my own, I was under no obligation to review.
When Emma wakes up in a hospital bed unable to see and with large chunks of her memory missing, there’s only one thing she knows for sure… someone tried to kill her. Uncertain of who tried to harm her and why, she pushes her mind to piece together parts of her memory. Told in alternating POVs, it’s soon revealed Emma has a stalker - but is that who hurt her?
It took some time adjusting to the writing style of this book. Within the same chapters it would jump between the “now” and Emma’s recovered memories/“then” without really letting the reader know of the transition. It was confusing at first since much of Emma’s POV feels as though you’re within her mind.
This is my third book from Leslie Wolfe, and the first two I thoroughly enjoyed. However I really struggled to get into this one. The first half of the book is almost unbearably slow. While the second half picks up pace, it feels too little too late to grab my attention.
It’s an interesting premise, and parts of it really had me wondering where it all would lead. It’s very psychological and makes you question the interpretation. If you’re looking for a slow burn psychological thriller with a hospital setting and much of the storyline revolving around the main character’s acting career, this is the perfect book for you! I did find it strange that none of the book summary mentioned the FMC being an actress. Those are typically storylines I don’t care for and shy away from.
While this one wasn’t a winner for me, I look forward to future books from this author!

Emma wakes up in the hospital, unable to see or remember. She knows someone though had tried to kill her- but who and why?
I really liked the second half of the book- I wasn’t able to put down because it was fast paced and engaging. However, I found it very difficult to engage in the first half, and felt that the first half went very slowly- hence the overall rating.
Thank you to author, publisher, NetGalley for advanced copy. This is an honest voluntary review.
Emma wakes up in the hospital when no recollection of how she got there. She is now blind. She knows enough to be fearful because someone attacked her. But who? Was it her ex-husband or his new fiancé? As time goes on, Emma has flashbacks and starts to remember things. What role does her ex-boyfriend, Adrian play? How about the doctor or nurse watching out for her? Are they telling her the truth? I understand that when one is blind, they have to rely on the other senses, but I found myself skipping a lot because there was just too many fluff words that didn't add a whole lot to the story. It was ok. Not as good as past books.
