Another great solid story from AJ as we have come to expect from her. You have to have some empathy with Christina at times and you do question what you would do in a similar situation. The story twists and throws the reader in all directions throughout and has a great ending too. This author is so consistent with her writing and her great plots too.

📚 PRE-PUBLICATION BOOK REVIEW 📚
Did I Kill My Husband?
By AJ Campbell
Publication Date: May 29, 2024
Publisher: Bookouture
📚MY RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
📚MY REVIEW:
What an incredibly fun and fast-paced domestic thriller! This book got my attention almost immediately, and it kept my attention right up until its twisted and unexpected conclusion.
The cover tells you that these characters have secrets... But I don't think I've ever read a book that had so many secrets to reveal! It seemed the end of each chapter left me with more questions and more curiosity about what exactly was really going on.
The writing is full of fantastic foreshadowing, with mystery and uncertainty that left me eager to know what was coming next. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! The short chapters made this a quick read too, because it was really easy to say "Just one more chapter!" 😉
While I tried to outsmart the story and took a couple guesses at how things were going to go, I was - as usual - not correct. And I thought my theories were really good. Campbell just did such a great job of creating a foundation so you could imagine things going many different ways.
While the ending was unexpected and included a couple twists I didn't come up with, there were parts of the story's conclusion that felt a little much...to me, anyway. I felt like so much of the book had been riveting and then some of the ways things wrapped up seemed a bit extra and unnecessary. I get why it went the way it did, I just didn't think it needed to...Regardless, that didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the book, but it's the reason I stopped short of giving it a five-star rating.
This book comes out at the end of the month, on May 29th, and it's definitely one you will want to add to your summer reading list! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for gifting me this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

Christine is travelling home one awful night when she hits something. Not sure what kind of animal it was she gets out to inspect. She can see no trace so it can't have been that bad.
Later that evening the police arrive at her door to tell her that her husband Michael has been involved in a hit and run.. Surely it couldn't have been her. Does she speak up or keep quiet.?
What was her husband doing out on that lane? Who is sending her messages? Who knows what happened.
Plenty of tension and a decent back story. A quick read
This book had my attention from the first page! I could not put it down! It was fast paced and had me guessing through the whole book! This is my first book by this author and will definitely be reading more! Really loved this book! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
Another wonderful book by Campbell!! Nice, easy read. Short chapters. Christine’s husband Michael is hit by a car while walking on the side of a road. Why was he walking? Why wasn’t he driving his own car? Where was he heading and where was he coming from? Was it all a terrible accident or was it intentional? Christine hits something while driving in bad weather. Thought it was an animal but could she have hit her own husband? Should she admit it to the police or hope they never find out? What happens if he dies? How will she live with the guilt? What will happen to her children if she gets goes to prison? This story is full of twists. If you think you have it figured out, think again. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
Thank you for this advance copy. I really enjoyed this book. It kept me up all night reading, I just could not stop!
I'm quickly becoming an AJ Campbell fan. This is the second book of hers I read and I couldn't read it fast enough
Fast paced and full of twists, the ending had me gasping! I'm usually pretty good at figuring out the ending but this one blindsided me.
This book has everything you want in a great book. Real characters, lies, deceit, and betrayal. Go out and grab this book if you love a good roller coaster ride.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy
The initial chapters definitely pulled me in however it did get a bit boring as it continued and seemed a bit drawn out.
The writing was easy to read and I got through the book pretty quickly.
This is one of those books where you cannot trust any of the characters. I found myself even questioning the kids. Although I did not expect the twist it was a bit underwhelming. I was hoping for a it more suspense and edge of your seat thrills.
I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for an easy read!
Talk about twisted turns that I never saw coming!! I totally suspected of the wrong person the whole time. I was hooked from the beginning! This book had everything I love in a thriller book. I could not out the book down the last few chapters. Idk but the sister is something else for doing what she did but also she was in part a victim and Michael. Also Ted can be considered the best brother. This book had my jaw in the floor multiple times. If you love thrillers this is the book for you!
Thank you to the AJ Campbell for reaching out with an e-ARC of Did I Kill My Husband? In exchange for an honest review!
Christina is meeting with her twin brother at the bar one evening because she is at her wits end. She is frustrated in her marriage, and she doesn’t know where to turn. On her way home, she hits something, an animal she assumes, with her car. That is, until the police call to inform her that her husband Michael has been hit by a vehicle, right when and where she hit the animal. Now Christina must figure out if she did hit her husband, as he lays in the hospital. As she investigates, she finds secrets about Michael that she couldn’t have planned for.
When I first started reading this book I loved the pace. It was quick and it kept me hooked from the beginning. The next thing that jumped out to me was how well the characters interacted with each other like real friends and family, especially the siblings Christina, Ted and Sophia. And this extended throughout all the interactions between characters! Furthermore, each character had their own conflicts going on which allowed for tension and suspense from a variety of angles, so I was constantly immersed in what was going on.
The main storyline was full of twists and turns and reveals that made me gasp. I thought I had things figured out 2 or 3 times, and when everything was finally resolved it was like a slap in the face. I was totally unprepared but once I heard it, it made complete sense! And everything wraps up nicely, no loose ends!
If you need a new thriller this summer, this is the one to get! It is unputdownable. And I promise you, the last quarter of this book will stick with you!
This is a new author for me and I have to say I was very impressed. Hooked from the first page there was plenty of tension and twists where I thought I had figured out what was going on but I was wrong several times, I just didn’t know what was going to happen next!! A great suspenseful rollercoaster of a book and I will look to read more by this author.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. AJ Campbell definitely writes some amazing plots with twists!! This one was a roller coaster and I was not sure what to believe. Did she kill her husband? I couldn't wait to find out.
The title is what drew me to this book. I love a good thriller that keeps me on the edge of my seat. In this story Christina's husband has been involved in a hit and run that has put him in the hospital. She is afraid she may have been the one behind the wheel of the car that hit him. She is fearful that she will lose her husband and even more fearful that if he survives he will be able to identify her as the assailant responsible for the hit and run. Her husband Michael is no innocent, good person either as the story alludes to a troubled past where he was involved in a scandal with a student who he taught. Throughout this book Christina is frantic and about to fall apart with all the lies that are building up and all the secrets she thinks her husband is keeping.
It took awhile to get into the story and I found that I didn't really get into the story until almost to the end when the twist was revealed. It was quite the twist but I must say that I didn't care for the ending.
This is my first ever book by A.J. Campbell and I really enjoyed it. Cristina is driving home late one night and hits something. She gets out thinking it’s a deer or another animal but sees nothing. Then the next day, the police show up saying her husband was in the hospital and had been in a hit and run. Coincidence maybe? It sure kept me guessing! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published May 29, 2024.
There is a scandal and suspicion at the school where Michael is a beloved teacher, and it involves him. He is eventually cleared, but damage to his reputation has been done and he is passed over for the promotion he’s been expecting.
Michael is married to Christina who appear to an idyllic couple. But now the student’s accusations are negatively affecting their marriage.
And then things go bizarre!
One dark night, Christine is driving home from having a drink with her brother at the bar. She’s driving at a snails pace in the pouring and blinding rain when she feels a frightening thud beneath her wheels. She stops and gets out to look for an injured animal, but assumes it must have run off. She arrives home shaken up and then things get oh so much worse. There comes that eerie knock on the door her home, when all should be asleep. It’s the police informing her Michael, is in the ICU clinging to life due to injuries sustained from a hit-and-run. Was it her husband beneath her tires? No, it couldn’t be, she never saw anything. Both panic and fear, cause Christina to not mention the incident to police, then the lies and coverup begins to scroll. After all there was no one around who could have seen what occurred on the deserted road that night. But wait, a mysterious letter that appears in her mailbox reveal that someone did see her car that night. Now Christine Is more terrified than any storm.
AJ Campbell masterfully builds intense suspense in her storytelling that captivated me from the very first page to the last. The narrative is deftly loaded with twists that are both unpredictable and ingenious. This book is a a rollercoaster ride of tension, where each chapter intensifies suspense, making it impossible to put down.
Hooked me from the start! With short chapters that leave you hanging, you won’t want to put it down til you find out what happens! I didn’t love the ending but overall, it was an entertaining book.
Twisted! That is the best way to describe this story! I was shocked at the ending, and honestly, at each twist. This is just what you want to read in a psychological thriller! Wow! If you like this genre, you’ll love this one!
Another edge of the seat page turner from AJ. Campbell I couldn’t put it down, thoroughly enjoyed it.
AJ Campbell has done it again with her latest thriller Did I kill my husband.
Christina is driving home from the pub in torrential rain and wind that she can only see a few feet in front of her when she hears a thud. At first thought that she has run over an animal. But when she gets out to check she sees nothing there.
When she gets home, she finds her daughter alone and her son gone out for the night. The next thing she hears is a knock on the door, it’s the Police. Thinking its to do with her incident earlier. But she is told that her husband has been involved in a hit and run and he has been taken to the hospital. He is now in an induced coma for his injuries. Christina wonders if the incident earlier, was it Micheal she run over? Did I try and kill my husband?
I have now read several books from the author, and she does not disappoint and Did I kill my husband is no exception. There is a lot going on in this multiple twisty thriller, when Christina is trying to find out what happened that night and why he is keeping all the secrets. I felt her pain coming off the pages as it is slowly revealed in what was going with Micheal and wow, I didn’t see the end coming. 4 stars from me.
Loved this cover!
Page 1 had me hooked or so I thought but as i read on just found it a little slow. It needed more suspense and action in the first part of the book; if this was not a netgalley book i may have just DNF the book but as I continued to more than half the book it did pick up. There was a big twist and turn at the end and it was very fitting to the book.
Once you get more than half of the book read it did pick up but book was just OK for me.
Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.
