I just reviewed Powered by ADHD by Amelia Kelley, PhD. #PoweredbyADHD #NetGalley
I wanted to love this as a women diagnosed with ADHD in 2023 and the title drew me in.
The layout of the book is a workbook with reflection questions starting with the self-assessment. Some chapters were more insightful with there facts than others but it was more a generalised overview of sub-traits.
Overall there was just too much going on and it deviated from the cover page description “strategies and exercises for women to harness their untapped gifts” it was written more as a reference manual for those doing research.
This validating, introspective, and motivating resource book offers insights into self-compassion and practical strategies for navigating your neurodivergence.
Each section is short, making for a palatable read. I found myself reading a couple of chapters at a time, then taking breaks to practice the strategies that resonated with me over the course of a few days.
This was the mind reset I needed. I encourage reading this book and recommend you share it with loved ones to provide a deeper understanding of your own experiences

A deep dive into ADHD. Dr Amelia did an amazing Job - a book highlighting ADHD the pros and the cons! Amazing glad there is more of a spotlight on ADHD right now
As a 30 year old mom of 2 recently diagnosed with ADHD this book was really helpful and informative.
I felt validated by the stories and felt seen - I'm not the only late diagnosed woman with ADHD who struggled her whole life.
I really enjoyed the journaling prompts, they made me take a deep look into myself and see what my potential can be, despite having ADHD.
Highly recommend this book to any woman. I also told my therapist about this book.
This was a super accessible guide to identifying and managing ADHD sx for women specifically. As a therapist, I will definitely recommend this to my clients who want to work on better understanding this diagnosis and building consistency with skills practice.
"Powered by ADHD" by Amelia Kelley is a game-changer for women with ADHD. With easy-to-follow strategies and exercises, Kelley empowers readers to unlock their hidden potential. Whether you're navigating daily challenges or seeking personal growth, this book offers practical guidance and support. It's like having a trusted friend by your side, cheering you on every step of the way. <3
This book is informational and a workbook at the same time. If I had to rate the pace, I would say it would be better to read at a slow pace if you are really wanting to focus on all the different areas she covers.
I gave this 5 stars because it personally was beneficial to me and helping me feel like I had tools that could help me with areas I have a hard time in. I also think it’s a great overview that many girls and women could find helpful — especially if they are someone like me who is really trying to figure out if they have an ADHD diagnosis.
I appreciated the focus on self-compassion and being patient with yourself as you are trying to find habits that work for you. This has general information about ADHD that is really helpful, but if you’re looking for a deep history on women and ADHD this isn’t really the book. This is a resource book that tries to give you strategies/skills you can start working on right away.
I am very much going to buy a physical copy of this to keep at my house. I will also put one on my classroom shelf.

This was really interesting. I’m actually very excited to see how this fares for me and my adhd. Willing to give anything a shot.
As a 34 year old woman who recently discovered that I have ADHD, I thought that this book was incredibly helpful and insightful. I loved that the author took the approach that ADHD does not make you a failure nor is it necessarily a disability, but rather saw it as a superpower. This is the first time that I’ve seen someone take this approach, so I greatly appreciated it!
The author covered many different topics, such as parenting, relationships, as well as day to day life with ADHD, and also included different questions with each section that you can work through. I loved that it was both interactive as well as helpful as it got to the point and gave helpful tips on how to manage life with ADHD.
I will definitely recommend this book to anyone with ADHD! I appreciate NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read it!
This was so incredibly helpful. I cried several times throughout just because I felt so, so seen. I am a femme presenting queer person who has always had ADHD but only recently got a diagnosis as an adult. It was incredibly special to me how this book acknowledged that just of past frustration and feelings of inadequacy dealing with a disability we had no tools for.
The journaling prompts were life changing and I would recommend this to every femme identifying person I know. ADHD operates so differently for us and this book is a huge step on the path to no longer gaslighting myself about my mind, my disability, and my potential.
