This is the third book in a series of interconnected standalones of small-town/cowboy romances. Lost and Lassoed features Teddy, the best friend of the first book's FMC, and Gus, who is the brother of the second book's MMCs. This is an enemies-to-lovers romance. I appreciated that the book is short and to the point without detouring into too many filler subplots. One downside to the length however is that the relationship progresses too quickly. I would have preferred another chapter or two devoted to developing the transition from enemies to lovers: it felt like we went from hating to committed relationship at an unbelievable pace which gives this instalove vibes.
Verdict: If you enjoyed the previous two books in the Rebel Blue Ranch you'll likely you'll enjoy this one as well. There's nothing groundbreaking here, but it's a solid choice for readers looking for short enemies-to-lovers cowboy romance.
This book will be published on November 5, 2024. Thank you to Random House - Dial Press Trade Paperback for providing me with an advanced copy of this novel via NetGalley.
If you can't go to Wyoming, at least you have the Rebel Blue Ranch book series! Lost and Lassoed is the third book and it may just be the best. We've seen the tension between Gus and Teddy building throughout the other two books and now we get to see their story unfold - and it was worth the wait! Enemies to lovers. Close proximity. Brand this book with whatever romance trope you want, just make sure you pick this one up as soon as it's available!
I completely devoured this series. I have been waiting for Teddy and Gus's story since the first time they interacted in the first book, and this did not disappoint. I loved their story, obviously, but the moments between Teddy and Gus's daughter were so sweet. And, of course, Amos playing matchmaker is still the best part of this series. Lyla Sage has created such a rich world with all of these characters and the setting.
The Rebel Blue Ranch series might be my favorite romance discovery of 2024 and this has so far been my favorite in the series, although I am EAGERLY anticipating the next book because second chance romance is a great trope and I have loved all the little pieces of Dusty and Camille's story dropped into the last few novels. Gus and Teddy had a lot of chemistry, and I loved how their relationship developed and that they were able to recognize in each other that they would do anything for the people they love. Obviously really excited for the next one *cough**cough* please netgalley...
Everything I wanted it to be and more. Teddy and Gus are perfection together and I adore their little family with Riley. I also freaking love Hank and need more of him/Aggie in book 4. Already ready to read it again.
3.5 🌟 I enjoyed this!! I loved being back at Rebel Blue Ranch as always, and I loved getting to see so much of Teddy’s character. I always loved her in the other books. I loved how fierce and determined she was to do well for herself and her dad. Their relationship is the sweetest. I also absolutely loved the female friendship dynamics between Emmy and Teddy in this book. One of the biggest highlights for me. I could never really connect to Gus as a character overall :(
My favorite part of Teddy and Gus is how they bicker and banter and I felt like that was lost in this book. This one felt very insta lovey to me so I just really didn’t buy into their romance and that made me sad!!! For me, it felt like they were suddenly in love and then nothing much happened after that.
Not a bad book at all, just not my absolute favorite and that’s okay. Very thankful to the publisher for the arc! I can’t wait for the next book, that epilogue had me sweating!!
Thank you NetGalley and Random House for this ARC! Lyla Sage has me in a chokehold. I love the entire Rebel Blue series, but this book is my favorite by far! The forced proximity enemies-to-lovers best friend's brother combo is just too good for words. Lyla's ability to transport you to the beauty of Rebel Blue is unmatched. I want that life so bad it hurts. Teddy and Gus's story is delicious and sweet, and I love Teddy's relationship with Gus's kid as well. I'm so sad this book is over that I'm going to do a reread of the series. I can't wait until Wild and Wrangled comes out in April!!! Dusty and Cam's story is going to be worth the wait though, I'm sure.
In Lyla Sage we trust. I have been waiting for this story since the first book, and it did not disappoint. Every story at Rebel Blue Ranch is superb, but Gus and Teddy's story is extra special. Can't wait to see what else is in store!
Absolutely loved it! Ms Lyla has not disappointed yet and i don't think she will. I always love her FMC and her MMC are just to die for and delicious. So excited to continue this series!
True enemies to lovers. It’s snarky, spicy, and at moments hilarious. Gus and Teddy have hated each other literally Teddy’s whole life. Teddy is Gus’s little sister’s annoying best friend and Gus is Teddy’s best friend’s stick in the mud older brother. They can’t stand to be in the same room together, and now a necessary arrangement has put them under the same roof. This was my first Rebel Blue Ranch novel and I’m obsessed.
Lyla Sage writes like a seasoned pro. Her characters are well thought out, and the plot is rich with adventure, excitement and romance. It is paced well, and has lots of fun moments between Teddy and Gus. A great addition to the Rebel Blue Ranch series.
Thanks to RH Publishing and NetGalley for providing a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I'd heard good things about this series, so when this one became available I snapped it up. I haven't read the previous two in this series, but it isn't necessary to do so to enjoy this story; you'd probably get more backstory on the characters if you're into that.
Theodora ("Teddy") and August ("Gus") are mortal enemies and have been for years, making it difficult for their friends and family (Teddy's best friend is paired off with Gus' best friend and Teddy's BFF is also Gus' sister). When Teddy loses her job and Gus' babymomma is out of town for the summer, an opportunity arises for Teddy to help out with babysitting Gus' daughter, and (of course) she ends up having to stay over a couple of night a week due to early-morning starts (Gus is a rancher).
So it's your basic enemies-to-lovers trope. It's done pretty well, plenty of emotional depth/growth. The characters are fairly traditionally-minded: Gus is a man's man, all testosterone and chaps, but he does have a tender side; Teddy is creative and enjoys sewing and embellishing clothing as well as painting, but is very much a free spirit. There are a couple of very steamy and explicit scenes, so if that's not your thing, steer clear.
It took a while to explain the nature of the relationship between Gus and his daughter's mom, which was odd and I feel should have been caught by an editor pre-publication. And I was not expecting (and was annoyed by) a Sweet Valley High style cliffhanger at the very end! Argh.
3.5 stars rounded up.
It was definitely enjoyable. I like the characters she's created in this world, and the stories themselves are warm and inviting. But I was a little disappointed by this one. The story pacing felt more rushed than the first two books in the series, as though the characters didn't get quite enough time to stop disliking each other and eventually fall in love in a believable manner.
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC!
I was so excited to finally get to Teddy and Gus’ story after the glimpses we got in the first two books in the Rebel Blue Ranch series.
This was a trope filled delight, with enemies-to-lovers, best friend’s brother, single dad/nanny, and more. I loved the main character’s relationship and how it changed through the story, not to mention the check ins on the characters from the first books and the glimpse at the relationship in book 4 (!!!).
Lyla Sage is definitely an insta-read for me after Lost and Lassoed.
From the moment Gus and Teddy started sniping at each other in Done & Dusted, I've been anxiously awaiting their story. In Lost & Lassoed, both Gus & Teddy are feeling a little lost, and for romance reasons, end up spending the summer in close quarters. Through their forced proximity, they begin to see each other in new lights and fall in love. I love this series so much and cannot wait to handsell this book to readers. Perfect for fans of small town romances, best friend's brother, and enemies to lovers tropes!
Thank you for the opportunity to review this item! I've enjoyed this series so far, and this was definitely my favorite of the three. The pairing felt natural and the interactions organic - it's tightly written and I'll recommend for other readers. Reviewed both formats - thank you!
I loved the romance! they understood each and could be themselves together. The chemistry between them was amazing! I also loved the slow-burn and the sexual tension between the main characters. There were several scenes that made me blush and smile so much. The writing is beautiful and descriptive. I honestly felt like I was living in the world with the characters. I felt so many emotions while reading this book, I cried, I laughed and I smiled. This book will stay in my heart for a long time.
Lyla’s books make me feel like I’m wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket with chicken noodle soup on a rainy day.
I have been reading Lyla’s work since she published Done & Dusted as an indie author, and while I’ve loved all her books, Lost and Lassoed was by FAR my favorite.
Every moment between Gus & Teddy gave me absolute butterflies! The enemies to lovers had me literally foaming at the mouth. Their love was slow burning but when it burned… there is nothing like these two!!
Teddy is SO good with Riley, I loved their relationship to pieces. Gus is sooo soft & gentle with Riley. I love their family so very much!!
The found family in this was amazing, I love being back at Rebel Blue & with the sweetest warmest family to ever exist!
There was so much chemistry, banter, and sexy moments between Teddy & Gus - but also a perfect mix of emotional, down to earth, and mundane moments between the two of them and their family. I smiled, I cried, and most of all I felt safe & loved in Meadowlark.
I could go on & on about my favorite moments but moral of the story is Lyla Sage did her big one on this book and this is absolutely, without a doubt, her best book yet.
Gus and Teddy lassoed me by the throat and didn’t let go until the last page. Nothing—and I mean nothing—could have prepared me for the sheer perfection that is Lost & Lassoed. Lyla is one of my favorites, and I couldn’t have been more honored to return to Rebel Blue Ranch early. Huge thanks to @netgalley @thedialpress & @authorlylasage for this ARC! 🤍
I’ve been eagerly waiting for Gus, and let me tell you, he was even better than I could’ve imagined. This is by far my favorite RBR book. (Do NOT tell my mans Brooks & Wes.) The family aspect in L&L? It just hit different. It hurt different. I’m constantly finding pieces of my life reflected through RBR, and Lyla, girl, I feel for you so hard. I’m sending you all the love and the biggest hug. I was in TEARS sobbing reading the acknowledgments—seriously, I blacked out in a fit of emotions! 😂
Lyla’s writing is like a fine-tuned guitar, hitting every note with precision. She doesn’t just tell a story; she makes you live it, breathe it, and feel it in your bones. Her words have a way of sneaking up on you, tugging at your heartstrings when you least expect it. RBR isn’t just a setting—it’s a place that feels as real as your own backyard. The depth of the world-building in this book makes you want to pack your bags and move RBR. Lyla creates a place where you can lose yourself and find pieces of your heart along the way.
Gus and Teddy aren’t just characters—they’re people who leap off the page and into your life. Their journey is raw, authentic, and beautifully messy, reminding us that love isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. You feel the emotions deep with this one
This book was beautifully written and perfectly paced. I’m so moved by this entire series, and by the author in general, that I’m convinced she could publish her grocery list, and I’d eagerly devour it, slapping 5 stars on it. Once again, a Meadowlark novel has secured its spot among my top favorite reads of the year. With each Meadowlark novel, Lyla raises the bar, and Lost & Lassoed is no exception. This series is just phenomenal, if you haven’t started reading it yet, you’re seriously missing out!
I love this whole series and I loved this book especially. Teddy and Gus have sparks that fly off the page. I’m so glad we got this story. This is a book about two people who always take care of others allowing someone to take care of them.
