This book exceeded my expectations. Ever since reading Swift and Saddled, I could not wait for Gus and Teddy's story. It was everything. One of my favorite parts about this book was the banter. Their back and forth was hilarious and had me grinning.
Lyla Sage never fails to add an amazing amount of emotional depth to her books. Ever through all the banter, a slow but powerful connection formed between Teddy and Gus. They both bring out the best in each other and it was beautiful.
The was that Gus Ryder cares so deeply for those he loves is mesmerizing and swoony. As the book progresses, Teddy becomes one of those people. The way he takes care of her is pure perfection. I am utterly obsessed with him and this book.
Thank you Lyla Sage, The Dial Press, and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. I cannot wait for book 4 in the series!
Review:
Lost and Lassoed pairs so beautifully with the rest of the series, but sticks out as such an amazing story of 2 people who find themselves at a crossroads. Their 'best friend's boyfriend' and 'forced proximity' romance got me giggling because of how cute they were (even the moments that they were pulling back and pretending not to be falling for the other). Lyla Sage beautifully crafts such human stories for her characters, making it so easy for you to root for the success of the characters and their relationships.

[4.5]
I knew they were gonna be good since the first book but I already miss them. I wish we got just the tiniest bit more of them because this book felt so short 🥺🥺
I was hoping Teddy and Gus would get their own book, and I'm so glad they did! Teddy is my favorite FMC of the three titles. I think she was written with more depth and I enjoyed getting to know her more. I've been excited to dive into Gus' internal struggles and motivation, so I'm glad we got a better picture of his personality and were able to break through the grumpy exterior. I also thought this title was better paced than the first two in the series. The banter was great and the slow burn was very swoon. I would definitley recommend this to readers who enjoyed the first two titles in the series and those who enjoy the grumpy x sunshine trope.
I’m giving this book 3.5 stars!
Definitely my favorite book out of the whole series. It was much more in detail, and you connect with the characters in different ways.
This is your typical single dad, nanny, trope book and I ate it up honestly. Just seeing the babysitter fall in love with the child and away as if they were the mother and then the father seeing that and just wanting a family with all them together always makes my heart warm.
When it came to Gus, you see him tickle this dominant role in every single part of his life, that being father or a son or a boss you see him just trying to be all of it at once and also being the best that every single thing he does to the point where overwhelming
Then you have Teddy that feels like everything is changing around her and she just doesn’t know how to catch up. She is definitely a more relatable character than the other fmc in the series. Just reading about her getting scared that she’s losing people in her life and that things are changing and people are getting older so relatable.
I always love seeing the babysitter/nanny build a relationship with the child when it comes to that trope!! Riley and Teddy were so cute together when it came to the flowers and just them doing everything with each other during the summertime.
Each book in the series is very short and fast pace so I knew we weren’t gonna get a lot of moments with Riley and Teddy but I did enjoy the moments that we did get.
When it comes to Gus and Teddy together, I really like them together the banter was actually really good and really funny as well. I feel like a lot of time we read enemies to lovers banter harsh, but actually funny and there’s always made me laugh!
Just knowing that both of their lives separately is very loud and they’re always needed by other people but when they get together, it’s just so quiet and they can just be>>>
It was very shocking to learn about their past together, but it made it even more better and it made it even more realistic why they would be become lovers.
Teddy and Emmy being tested was so realistic, and I loved it so much. Just Teddy explaining how she feels to Emmy and expressing herself was so relatable to me and I think that’s what made it even more enjoyable.
The ending was so small town, Ohio that I couldn’t give this book 4 stars because I feel like they were moving way too fast and it really reminded me that this is a small town romance lol
I did really enjoy this one but I do think it was a lesser enjoyment than the first two. I did read this super quickly and the way she writes her characters feels so real and raw, That being said, I think the realationship between Teddy and Gus wasn't super believable. It happened super quickly from hate to love and there just wasn't enough sweet moments for me to really root for them. Which is a shame because I was looking forward to their book the most.
I think the implements of Riley and Teddy's dad were really great but Teddy wasn't as fully fleshed out as the Ada and Emmy were for me. I loved the cliffhanger and am still super interested in reading the next book though.
Still super enjoyed, just not the best of the three.
3.5 stars.
I gotta say that even though I didn't enjoyed the first book in this series, I did end up loving "Swift and Saddled". That's why I decided to give this one a try. Sadly, this one didn't meet my expectations. I didn't enjoyed anything about it. I am still going to read the last one in this series.
Lost and Lassoed was phenomenal. I'm obsessed with the Rebel Blue cast of characters, the way their stories feel like a cinematic universe, and how much love there is between everyone. It has cozy, small-town neighborly vibes, with many romances mixed in.
Gus and Teddy are the grumpy/sunshine pair that you need in your life. Reading as they slowly moved toward each other was such a joy, one that I savored because I just never wanted it to end. Riley, Gus's little girl, is a big part of the story, and reading as she and her dad fell in love with Teddy...I think my ovaries exploded just like Teddy's did.
The steamy scenes are spaced out with exactly the right amount of lead up, and you will be completely satisfied by them.
A surprising sub-plot involves the growing and changing of Emmy and Teddy's friendship, and I love the specific emphasis placed on how friendships change when one person has found the love of their life and the other hasn't yet. I think this was a really special aspect of the story that didn't take anything away from Teddy and Gus, but enhanced it with some important context.
And after finishing this one, I'm on the edge of my seat to find out what happens next!
Add this to your TBR immediately. It's a must.
I absolutely loved this one!!! I have been so excited for Gus & Teddy’s story since the release of Done & Dusted and they did not disappoint!!!
Teddy is a well-written character all around. Her personality is balanced between being feisty & outspoken and also vulnerable & soft-hearted. She’s funny, kind, caring, and witty. I loved her depth & appreciated how much I could relate to her, especially on the fact that feels lost and stagnant in her life, but most of all her fear of not being needed anymore. I adored her relationship with her father, her relationship with the Ryder family & Riley so much. I want to be her best friend 🥹 i love her sm!!!
Gus is just as well-written all around. I’ve been so excited to see beneath Gus’s grumpy, broody exterior for so long and it’s safe to say, I love this man!!! He’s kind, funny, caring, gentle and he loves fiercely. I loved getting to see the depth within his character, and also discovering ways I relate to him as well! I think he represents a large group of people who are afraid to fail, to let people down, who carry the weight of the world is on their shoulders just to save the people around them. His relationship with Riley, him as a father, is so so beautiful. I love that little family so much!!!!
I adored Teddy & Gus’s relationship so much. Watching them let their guards down with each other, open up & comfort each other was so lovely. Their banter was so good, and the chemistry between these two was EVERYTHING. The love & care that is shared between them makes my heart hurt, you can just tell that they were meant to be!!! Plus the spice was SO SO good. I love them so much!!!
I give all the props to Lyla Sage for writing a well-paced enemies to lovers storyline while also providing the reader with the perfect amount of romance as well, especially with the fact that the Rebel Blue Ranch books are on the shorter side! Truly loved every second of this book!
I loved this book! Emotional, relatable and SPICY! Teddy and Gus are such good characters, you find yourself rooting for them the entire time.
Format: Kindle, ARC
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT, READ IT NOW!
🌶️ Rating: 3
Lyla Sage has done it again with Lost and Lassoed! This is my second 5-star read in this series.
I received this ARC from DialPress and NetGalley on Thursday, and I made sure to clear my schedule on Saturday to read it straight through. I devoured this book. It was one of my most anticipated releases of the year, and it did not disappoint.
We meet Teddy and Gus in a classic enemies-to-lovers setup in this installment. This story features a single dad, forced proximity, and a firecracker of a woman with a sharp tongue—you never know what will come out of her mouth next.
The banter is top-notch, and the slow burn is truly intense. This book made me tear up twice, so have your tissues ready when you pick it up in November. It's definitely worth the preorder!
For reference:
* Done and Dusted: 3.5 stars
* Swift and Saddled: 5 stars
Thank you Random House Publishing Group and NetGalley for the ARC!!
Lost and Lassoed was one of my most anticipated books of 2024, so to get to read before it comes out was such a treat!! I absolutely adore both Teddy and Gus, and I knew Lyla Sage wouldn’t disappoint with giving them the story they deserve. The whole book felt so cozy and like I was returning back to Rebel Blue and Meadowlark myself!
This is a super fast-paced read that I finished in one day and enjoyed it the whole time! Definitely my favorite in the series!
There were a couple typos and tense changes that I noticed, but it didn’t hinder my overall reading experience.
Lost and Lassoed solidified my need to move to Rebel Blue Ranch. This is the 3rd book in the Rebel Blue Ranch series by Lyla Sage, a collection of standalone novels featuring different cowboy love stories.
What to expect:
🐎 Cowboy romance
🐎 1st person, dual POV
🐎 Small town romance
🐎 Hate to love
🐎 Single dad
🐎 Best friend's brother
🐎 Forced proximity
Lost and Lassoed is a fast-paced, charming story of a feisty, artsy redhead and a grumpy, single-dad cowboy. I loved Teddy and Gus in the previous two books, so I was excited to get their story—and Lyla delivered a memorable book. If you love Heartless by Elsie Silver, you will enjoy this story since they have similar aspects.
Lyla has a skill for developing characters in a realistic and authentic way, especially when it comes to her dialogue. I also love that each couple throughout the three books have felt unique and continue to make appearances throughout.
The reason I gave this a 4 star instead of 5 is because I wish there would have been more moments to build the "love" between these characters. Since these characters are supposed to hate each other, I would expect it to take even longer for them to warm up to one another.
Oh I am so pleased to say that I have enjoyed this book very much! I was a bit on the fence because while I did enjoy the previous books I still wasn't feeling the writing 100% but with this one I could totally see how she is getting better and better.
I liked the work she did with character, the way they felt more rounded and she sold us on Gus the Grump. I totally loved Teddy and him together, they made sense and their "friction" was well developed. It is very rare to do it in contemporary romances.
I cannot wait to read the next book, I am very very excited.
I thought this book was great and had the amazing enemies to lovers trope while also being small town romance and cowboy romance
I don’t regret my third trip to Rebel Blue Ranch! Gus & Teddy’s romance has been built up over the last two novels and I was so excited to find out their story. While admittedly the nanny/single father trope is one I loathe, I did appreciate it here. Though that said, I don’t feel like it added anything new per se to this trope other than it being well written. Well, maybe until what I say below!
I appreciated Lyla’s authors note at the back and it felt like it really put the book into perspective (and is part of the reason I gave it 4 stars over 3 stars). I think it should be at the front of the book. The story was more than the main romantic relationship but the culmination of familial relationships, especially between father and daughter. Readers get to see Riley and Gus as well as Teddy and Hank’s relationships, which took the vibe of the trope and made it so much better.
I only wished we got to see more Wes and Ada in this book! I think they’re my favorite couple. I am also looking forward to Cam and Dusty’s book, which was set up nicely.
Thank you to Dial Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Great chemistry and spice but I wanted more story. I was interested in Teddy's doings but we seemed to only get pieces of her projects: her art and work life could've been way more developed.
This was my first Lyla Sage book (yes I know I'm going out of order) and I loved it. Special shout out to Net Galley for the chance to review it before it comes out in November!
This book was a quick, really sweet read. I loved all the characters and I can't wait to go back and read the first two in this series. Also, thank the Lord for the epilogue. I can't wait for the next book!!
SPOILERS:
I loved that Teddy and Gus made sense together, which I feel like sometimes romance books kind of gloss over as a less important detail. I also absolutely adored the bits of Teddy and Emmy's friendship we got to see at the end of this book. It was a really beautiful picture of what female friendships can be that touched me more than any other part of the book.
✨ “If getting suffocated by your perfect cunt is the way I go, then let me,” he said. “Now sit on my face. I want my last supper.”✨
We finally get Teddy & Gus’s story!!! If you’re like me, you’ve been anxiously waiting for these two since they were first introduced in Done & Dusted. As always, the location of Meadowlark is amazing & each book makes me fall further in love with this town & Rebel Blue. I really wanted to give this five stars. I wasn’t disappointed with the love story, but I wanted more. There were some majorly swoon worthy moments throughout that made my heart clench, but I feel like we didn’t get to really meet Gus & Teddy. We got a general outline of who they would be in the previous books & it felt like we didn’t color in the lines once we finally got to Lost & Lassoed. Does that make sense? We’re told that Gus is a grump & Teddy is a fire-y troublemaker, but we don’t get any scenes to really reinforce or contradict these ideas… instead it’s just an accepted fact, but we don’t have any actions to really back it up. I just wanted more. I was so excited to finally get inside the head of Teddy & see this badass character but she gave me nothinggggg. Yeah we had the quips between her & Gus, but her personality just didn’t feel fully fleshed out. I wanted this bitch to be my best friend & instead she’s just a mere acquaintance by the end of the book.
The love story was enough that I did enjoy this book and will prob reread in the future for the imagery & found family. Give me 100 more pages of actions showing who these characters are & it prob would’ve been a 5 star for me.
This book was *chefs kiss* 5 stars. I love everything about this series but this book is for sure my favorite. Lyla Sage did NOT disappoint with this one. It’s a single dad- enemies to lovers-cowboy- romance with incredible banter. Literally what else could you need???
The thing that was the cherry on top for me, was the emotional connection between the characters. That is something a lot of romance books don’t spend time on and it just really made this book for me.
Also, these covers are beautiful!! I cannot wait to get my hands on a physical copy.
One of the best enemies to lovers tropes I’ve ever read! I love the Rebel Blue Ranch family, and Gus and Teddy had the perfect relationship that developed over the course of the book. Their banter was excellent and I’m not usually a single-dad trope fan, but this one worked for me. I also loved the father-daughter and father-son representation in the book. Teddy and her Dad have such a special relationship and it really made you want to cry at points. I love this series and I love Lyla Sage’s writing. Also, the setting of these books makes me want to visit Wyoming!
