This was a fun and enjoyable read.

Our story takes place on a newly discovered planet, Vela, where Charlie, her robot friend, Random, her family and some other astronauts are the first inhabitants. While they discover and live on the land, they start noticing their food disappearing. However, Charlie discovers their cute little thief and tries her best to save the little creature while saving it from the wrath of the angry mayor.

The plot of this book is interesting. I liked the simplicity in the story, with detailed descriptions regarding the environment and small pieces of life. I enjoyed how the story uses the discovery of a new creature to express multiple emotions while progressing the story forward.

Although the story has a handful of characters, not many are critical to the story. Charlie and Random are the main characters of this story. Random, being a robot was interesting and I liked how its personality felt almost like another human character. Though I would have preferred if its name was not Random. Charlie is an enjoyable character, who is both curious and kind. Unfortunately, Charlie doesn’t interact with many other characters but it’s evident that she has a great bond with her family and is scared of the angry mayor.

The book itself has wonderful pictures throughout. They are detailed, greyscale pictures with an almost soft tone. They are well placed throughout the book, supporting the story in both critical and happy moments.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and I think it’s a great addition to any reading list because of its simplicity. The descriptions and fast pacing makes this a quick yet enjoyable read. Although the message in this book is slightly hidden, readers will enjoy the mystery and interactions within the story.
